California track athlete briefly poses on 1st-place podium after losing to trans athlete, receives praise
California girls track athlete Reese Hogan received praise on social media over the weekend when she briefly popped onto the first-place marker during the podium ceremony and posed for a photo after she lost to a transgender athlete in the triple jump.
Hogan, an athlete from Crean Lutheran High School, set a personal record and school record in the triple jump at 37 feet, 2 inches during the meet on Saturday. She was competing in Division 3 of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Finals.
The transgender athlete from Jurupa Valley High School defeated Hogan by more than 4 feet. The athlete also won the long jump competition.
Hogan, with a medal around her neck, smiled as she stepped up to the first-place spot once the ceremony was finished. The junior received massive cheers in the video that circulated around social media and praised her as the "real champion."
The 16-year-old was among those who told Fox News Digital last week that CIF officials made her and her fellow athletes remove their "Protect Girls Sports" T-shirts before their meet at the CIF Southern Section Prelims.
She alleged that officials made them feel that if they did not take off their shirts, then they would be disqualified from the event.
"It wasn't said, but it was implied that if I didn't take my shirt off then and there, then something could potentially happen to my spot, it wasn't said, but it was implied," Hogan said. "Throughout the day it was kind of getting a little bit more stricter… getting a little bit more hostile with their voices… they never said anything about getting disqualified, but it was kind of implied by the tone of their voice and the way that they said things."
Since the controversy at the prelims, the Trump administration has put California and Gov. Gavin Newsom on notice.
The state has still bucked President Donald Trump's executive order to keep biological males out of girls' and women's sports. The CIF is already under a Title IX investigation.

I thought [Diggs] looked great," Hogan said on The Patriots Report with Price & Hogan. "It's earlier, I think, than most people expected coming back from an ACL injury. I love the way that he's looking running routes and cutting." The Patriots are hopeful that Diggs will be ready by the start of the season, even if he ends up missing time at training camp. Letters to the Editor: False information being spread in case of transgender athlete
I am writing in response to the Naperville Sun article, 'Meeting packed with supporters/opponents of trans student athletes,' published Wednesday, June 4. I support transgender people and our top-ranked Naperville public schools. I thank Naperville schools for their continued support of all children. Hours of comments at the two recent Naperville District 203 School Board meetings would have been unnecessary if not for Awake Illinois, an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group, exposing the face and details about a transgender child. The majority of attendees supported transgender rights. Anti-transgender speakers made numerous false claims, including: 1. Some said the child involved is a boy. False. Transgender girls are not boys. The repeated phrase of 'boys in girls' sports' is a slur, not a fact. 2. No child in Naperville District 203 has 'pretended to be a girl' to win at sports. 3. No transgender females have changed or showered in locker rooms with cisgender girls. Gender accommodations are discussed among the student, their family and the school. 4. No federal law supersedes state law in this sports competition case. 5. There is no such thing as Title IX Month nor has it replaced Pride Month. An executive order creating Title IX Month has no legal standing. Title IX protects all students from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Awake used an isolated case to discriminate, marginalize, intimidate and erase transgender people and to call for defunding public schools. Naperville District 203 Policy 7:10 explicitly states that equal education and extra-curricular opportunities shall be available for all students regardless of gender identity. Policy 7:20 states that harassment of students is prohibited based on gender identity. The relentless bullying of transgender people by the current Trump administration and hate groups like Awake Illinois contributes to the distress of trans children, their families and allies. Awake and MAGA extremists try to foment fear of transgender people and destroy public schools, whose mission is to educate all students, give all students equal opportunities, and make all students feel valued and welcomed. Transgender athletes in sports warrant study by the scientific community. Decisions must not be dictated by Christian nationalists or others who hate transgender people, deny their existence or aim to erode their rights. Lies about trans kids must not be used to try to defund public schools. Being transgender is not an ideology, but one of many natural ways to be. Transgender people want to live their lives just like everyone else.

Risch urges 'top to bottom' USAID spending review after waste, fraud exposed
Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, said a thorough review of spending from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is warranted, following the Trump administration's efforts to overhaul the agency. USAID was an independent agency to provide impoverished countries aid and offer development assistance, but the agency was upended since February when President Donald Trump installed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to oversee the organization amid concerns that USAID did not advance U.S. core interests. Since then, the agency has faced layoffs and is being absorbed into the State Department. This increased scrutiny on USAID spending is valid, according to Risch. "The amount of money that we're spending on that has to be reviewed top to bottom," Risch said during an event Wednesday at the Washington-based think tank the Hudson Institute. The move means eliminating thousands of staff members in an attempt to enhance the existing, "life-saving" foreign assistance programs, according to a State Department memo that Fox News Digital obtained. Meanwhile, Democrats slammed the restructuring of the agency, labeling the move "illegal." "Donald Trump and Elon Musk's destruction and dismantling of USAID is not only disastrous foreign policy and counter to our national security interests; it is plainly illegal," the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., said in a statement in March.
