How Minnesotans are reacting to the air quality alert affecting the state
All of Minnesota is under an air quality alert through Monday evening, which is when the heaviest haze could set in. Gary Rother noticed the poor air quality while he was setting up the beach volleyball courts Sunday at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. "At times it gets really smoky, and at times it's not as bad," he said. Some of the players told WCCO they noticed some haze in the air, even if it wasn't enough to make anyone stop playing. Rother felt it the worst while mowing his lawn this weekend. "You feel like something is in your throat," he said. "It's a little like you're ready to hack something out." The National Weather Service says the air quality alert that goes through Monday is a result of smoke from wildfires in Canada. "It can be hazardous to your health, especially people who are especially sensitive to things like that: people with asthma, elderly, children," said Melissa Dye, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. While driving, recirculating the air in the car can help. If spending time outside, Dye says a well-fitting N95 mask is recommended, along with taking breaks inside. Dye says she has no reason to think this summer won't be like recent summers with frequent haze and air quality alerts.

Rainy and stormy weather moves into New Mexico to start the week
Widespread showers and thunderstorms will move into New Mexico to start the work week. Thunderstorm chances will continue for parts of the state through Wednesday. Moisture ahead of a large low pressure system has been bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms across New Mexico Sunday afternoon. A couple of these storms have turned severe along and east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It's also another hot day in places that have stayed sunny and dry. Rain and a few thunderstorms will actually continue overnight in western and central New Mexico as the aforementioned low pressure system moves into the state. Through the morning, isolated to scattered showers and storm chances will continue across most of the state. Temperatures will be much cooler across most of New Mexico Monday, but with some daytime heating, widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop. A couple of these could bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and small hail. There is a risk of burn scar flash flooding Monday as well. On and off showers and storms are likely for the Albuquerque Metro and much of New Mexico. Some of these storms will continue into late Monday night. Drier weather briefly moves in Tuesday morning, but isolated storms will return in the northern half of the state Tuesday afternoon, along with western pats of New Mexico. Temperatures will warm up a slightly in the western half of the state, while the eastern half will see cooler temperatures with a backdoor cold front moving in. Another low pressure system will cross New Mexico from the west on Wednesday, bringing scattered showers and storms to the northern half of New Mexico once again. Some of these storms could drop heavy rainfall. Temperatures will again be cooler across most of the state Wednesday afternoon. Drier weather quickly returns Thursday as temperatures start a warming trend. It will feel a lot more like summer again next weekend as the dry weather sticks around.
