Al Nassr climbs to third with dominant win over Al Khaleej, Al Qadsiah slips after loss to Damac
Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — Al Nassr surged into third place in the Saudi Pro League with a 3-1 victory over Al Kholood on Friday, capitalizing on Al Qadsiah's defeat to Damac in Round 25 of the competition.
Ronaldo, Mané, Durán on target in first-half blitz
Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, and Jhon Durán all found the net in a dominant first half for Al Nassr, securing a comfortable win despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half.
Ronaldo, the league's top scorer with 19 goals, opened the scoring in the 4th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Durán's initial strike hit the right post, before bouncing off the left post and into his path.
Moments later, Al Kholood thought they had equalized through Miziane Maolida, but VAR ruled it offside.
Al Nassr doubled their lead in the 26th minute when Salem Al-Najdi delivered a pinpoint cross that Mané met with a sublime first-time finish into the net.
Durán added a third just four minutes before halftime, collecting a pass from Angelo Gabriel and firing a low shot past the keeper.
Al Nassr holds firm despite red card
Al Nassr had to play the final half-hour with 10 men after Nawaf Boushal received a second yellow card. Head coach Stefano Pioli responded with a triple substitution in the 61st minute, bringing on Abdulmajeed Al-Sulaiheem, Ayman Yahya, and Majid Fashish for Ronaldo, Gabriel, and Ali Al-Hassan.
Al Kholood pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute when Jackson Muleka's shot deflected off Ali Lajami and past goalkeeper Bento Matheus.
Mané thought he had restored Al Nassr's three-goal lead three minutes later, but his strike was ruled out for a foul in the buildup.
With the win, Al Nassr moved level on 51 points with Al Qadsiah but climbed to third on goal difference. Al Kholood remains 10th with 31 points.
Damac stuns Al Qadsiah with stoppage-time penalty
Al Qadsiah slipped to fourth place after a 1-0 defeat to Damac, with Habib Diallo scoring a last-gasp penalty in stoppage time.
The result leaves Al Qadsiah on 51 points, trailing Al Nassr on goal difference, while Damac climbs to 12th with 27 points.
Al Wehda cruises past Al Khaleej
Elsewhere, Al Wehda secured a 2-0 win over Al Khaleej, with Juninho Bacuna scoring inside two minutes, followed by Youssef Amin's second-half goal in the 63rd minute.
The win lifts Al Wehda to 20 points in 16th place, while Al Khaleej stays 11th with 30 points.

Al-Nassr lead the way as Saudi teams score big in global football social media rankings
RIYADH: Saudi clubs made a strong impression in the latest global social media rankings for football teams, with Al-Nassr confirmed as the most-followed Arab club worldwide. In a report published on Wednesday by the Football Observatory, a research group within the International Centre for Sports Studies, Al-Nassr, who finished third in the Saudi Pro League this season, ranked 16th globally in terms of followers, having amassed more than 62 million across platforms including X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. The club's regional online dominance was widely attributed to the global appeal of star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed for the team in December 2022, and its rapidly growing fanbase. Al-Hilal, this season's runners-up in the league, ranked 24th, with 37.7 million followers, driven by strong social media engagement linked to success in continental competitions and a squad featuring a number of international stars. Pro League champions Al-Ittihad took 49th spot in the rankings with 15.5 million followers, ahead of many European and American clubs, thanks to recent high-profile signings and domestic success. Al-Ahli ranked 66th with 10.7 million followers, their digital success bolstered by a recent return to the Saudi Pro League and a vibrant presence on TikTok and Instagram. Several clubs in other Arab countries also appeared in the top 100, including Egyptian side Al-Ahly, who with 57.7 million followers ranked 18th globally and were the top African side, fellow Egyptian club Zamalek (45th, 17.2 million followers) and Moroccan team Raja Casablanca (59th, 12.3 million). The researchers said the rankings reflected the growing global reach and digital influence of Arab football, with Saudi clubs in particular gaining ground on traditional powerhouses in Europe and the Americas such as Real Madrid, who topped the rankings with 473.7 million followers, Barcelona (2nd, 427.4 million), Manchester United (3rd, 233.6 million) and Flamengo of Brazil, the highest-placed South American team, who ranked 15th with 66.4 million followers.

Cristiano Ronaldo sheds tears of joy after Portugal's Nations League triumph
Another trophy for Cristiano Ronaldo. More records, more adulation. The Portugal star shed tears after helping his team win the Nations League on Sunday. Ronaldo scored to help Portugal draw level with Spain 2-2 in the final, then watched as his teammates won the penalty shootout 5-3. For all the latest headlines follow our Google News channel online or via the app. 'I have many titles with my clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal,' Ronaldo said. 'These are tears. It's mission accomplished and so much joy.' The 40-year-old Ronaldo had been the first to run out onto the field for the pre-game warmup, sparking a huge roar from the Portugal supporters, including many wearing jerseys emblazoned with his name. His appearance prompted many supporters to pull out their cell phones to record the superstar while they could still see him in action. Ronaldo conceded Saturday that he won't be able to play forever. That was three days after he helped Portugal to its first win over Germany for 25 years, scoring the winner for a 2-1 victory in the Nations League semifinals. On Sunday he was driving the team again, though it was initially a frustrating game as his chances were limited by Spain's hard-working defenders. Nuno Mendes fired Portugal level after Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring for Spain. Then Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead 2-1 at the break. But Ronaldo was in the right place at the right time to fire home the equalizer from Mendes' deflected cross in the 61st, setting off joyous scenes among his faithful fans. It was Ronaldo's 138th goal for Portugal. Nobody has ever scored more for their country. Ronaldo kept trying in what was his record-extending 221st appearance for the country, but eventually had to go off exhausted in the 88th to standing ovations from fans and a hug from coach Roberto Martínez. Ronaldo said he was carrying an injury into the game. 'I had already felt it during the warmup, I had been feeling it for some time, but for the national team, if I had to break my leg, I would have broken it,' Ronaldo said. 'It's for a trophy, I had to play and I gave it my all.' Ronaldo's future is uncertain as his contract with Saudi club Al Nassr only runs to the end of June. He posted 'this chapter is over' on social media after the club's last Saudi Pro League game of the season. On Saturday he said he had all but decided not to go to the Club World Cup despite 'quite a few' offers from participating clubs to play there. Whatever club Ronaldo plays for, he will keep striving for Portugal. 'I have lived in many countries, I have played for many clubs, but when it's about Portugal, it is always a special feeling,' he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo Is Almost Certain He Won't Play at Club World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo says he's almost certain he will not be playing at the Club World Cup, dealing a blow to FIFA president Gianni Infantino's hopes of having one of soccer's biggest attractions at the tournament. The Portugal captain confirmed Saturday that he received 'quite a few' offers from participating clubs to play for them at the tournament starting June 14, but had decided against accepting any of them. 'Some things make sense to talk about, other things don't, and, as a person says, you can't take part in everything,' Ronaldo said. 'You have to think about the short, medium and long term. It's a decision practically made on my part not to go to the Club World Cup, but I've had quite a few invitations to go.' The 40-year-old soccer legend was speaking in Munich a day before Portugal's Nations League final against Spain. Infantino had suggested last month that Ronaldo, who is still contracted to Saudi team Al-Nassr until the end of June, could switch to one of the 32 clubs taking part in the Club World Cup because of a unique transfer window created for the tournament. Ronaldo did little to quell that speculation when he posted 'this chapter is over' after Al-Nassr's last Saudi Pro League game of the season. He was linked with several Club World Cup participants, including Brazil's Palmeiras. A switch to Al-Nassr's crosstown rival Al-Hilal – the one Saudi club that qualified – was also mooted as a potential solution to having Ronaldo play at the tournament, where his great rival Lionel Messi will be playing with Inter Miami. FIFA would have welcomed the boost that Ronaldo's presence could provide for ticket sales, though such a switch to a bitter local rival for a short period would be unthinkable for players in Europe's leagues. Ronaldo fired Portugal into the Nations League final on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over host nation Germany. His winning goal was his record-extending 137th for Portugal. If he plays Sunday, he will make his record-extending 221st national team appearance.
