Lidl to launch 'luxurious' rosé wine that is over 50% cheaper than Whispering Angel
Rosé season is pretty much in full swing. While this refreshing tipple can be enjoyed all year round, it's usually a go-to during the summer for many of us.
If there's one premium bottle that has earned a cult-like reputation, then it has to be the Whispering Angel Côtes de Provence Rosé that can retail at £22.75 for a 75cl, although prices can be as high as £42.50 for a large 150cl.
Wanting to get that familiar floral and fruity taste without spending the big bucks? Then look no further than Lidl, as the supermarket has just announced a very similar wine that will save shoppers over 50 percent.
The German discounter's Breath of Paradise Rosé is officially set to go available in stores nationwide from tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20, with a price-tag of just £10.99 for a 75cl, making it over £11.50 cheaper than a bottle of the beloved brand.
Lidl's take on Whispering Angel boasts the same pale pink hue that Côte de Provence wines have become synonymous with, just without the premium price-tag to match.
Described as a "game-changer for summer", the Breath of Paradise Rosé has primarily been made with Grenache grapes grown in Provence to help provide the same aroma of peach and wild herbs.
With warmer days on the horizon, it will be an easy accompaniment for many summer dishes such as salads, seafood and pasta, while a bottle would be perfect for enjoying with friends over a BBQ or picnic.
Lidl's Master of Wine, Richard Bampfield, says: "Well known for producing grapes that fuel the 'premium dry rosé' category, wines from the region of Provence are well known by both Brits and the French alike. However, with branded options often carrying a hefty price tag, most tend to reserve them for special occasions rather than include them in the weekly shop.
"At excellent value, Lidl's Breath of Paradise is a summer game changer. Like any luxurious dry rosé alternative, it's made primarily with Grenache grapes grown in Provence, giving it that iconic rosé hue and the classic Provençal aroma of fresh peach and wild herbs that we know and love.

"With a perfectly balanced acidity, body and dryness, each bottle of Breath of Paradise is effortlessly drinkable. Best served well chilled or even over a large ice cube, it'll quench the thirst of rosé lovers at any occasion this summer."
It's not the only Whispering Angel 'dupe' to appear on the market this year, as M&S' La Balconne Organic Provence Rose was also compared to the beloved bottle earlier this year in March.
Costing £18 for a 75cl, the high street firm's pale-pink hued wine, which has been hailed by shoppers as "the best" on the market, boasts "refreshing" notes of red berries, peach and cherry blossoms.
Not in the mood for a bottle of rosé? Then Aldi's latest invention, the Still Prosecco DOC, might be a suitable alternative for those who are looking to try out something totally unique.
Hailed as the UK's first ever bubbles-free prosecco, it uses the same Glera grapes to provide a similar taste to its fizzy counterpart, with a 75cl bottle priced at £9.99.
Meanwhile, Lidl's Breath of Paradise Rosé will be available for £10.99 in stores nationwide during the summer season, but only while stocks last.

Elon Musk deletes explosive Trump claim off social media as feud boils over
Elon Musk has sparked a political firestorm after posting — then deleting — a bombshell claim linking Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein. Elon Musk has deleted a post from his social media platform that made an explosive claim about Donald Trump. The billionaire tech mogul, who owns X (formerly Twitter), posted that Trump's name was mentioned in FBI files related to deceased paedophile Jeffrey Epstein – a claim the former president swiftly denied on his own platform, Truth Social. Musk had written: "Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" He followed it up with another cryptic post: "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." Both messages were taken down earlier today. Trump hit back by reposting a message from his lawyer David Schoen, who said: "I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein's defence as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died. He sought my advice for months before that. "I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!" Despite removing the bombshell post, there's little sign of the row between Musk and Trump easing any time soon, reports the Mirror. Musk's X account still features posts from recent days attacking Trump's proposed budget as an 'abomination,' predicting that his tariff plans would push the US into a recession later this year, and even calling for Trump's impeachment – suggesting Vice President JD Vance should replace him. According to reports, the feud intensified after Trump pulled his nomination of Jared Isaacson – a known Musk ally – to lead NASA. The New York Times reported Trump changed course after learning Isaacson had made donations to Democratic candidates, questioning his loyalty. In yet another deleted post, Musk hinted at reconciliation – but with conditions. "I'll offer a full throated apology only if there's a full dump of the Epstein files," he wrote. While Trump once vowed to release all records related to Epstein after taking office, that promise remains unfulfilled. FBI director Kash Patel and his deputy Dan Bongino – both longtime Trump allies – have since publicly distanced themselves from many of the conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein's death, theories that remain widespread among parts of the MAGA movement. In one bizarre episode, a group of social media influencers were invited to the White House and handed what were touted as 'the Epstein Files.' They later admitted the documents contained nothing new – only information already in the public domain. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
