China launches 100 AI-powered mining trucks in global first for automation

China has deployed the world's largest fleet of autonomous electric mining trucks, with 100 driverless vehicles now operating at a coal mine in Inner Mongolia, media reported on Thursday.
The trucks, equipped with technology from Huawei Technologies, were developed by Huaneng Mengdong, a subsidiary of the state-owned energy conglomerate Huaneng Group.
Company chairman Li Shuxue called the 'Huaneng Ruichi' fleet the largest single deployment of its kind globally.
'These vehicles integrate advanced technologies such as 5G-A communication, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, intelligent battery swapping, and high-precision mapping,' Li said.
The project's technology providers include Huaneng Group, Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group, and the Beijing University of Science and Technology.
The driverless trucks are designed to load and unload materials autonomously and operate reliably in extreme weather, a key requirement for the often-harsh conditions of Inner Mongolia's mining zones.
Li added that the new fleet could increase transport efficiency by as much as 20% compared to conventional manned trucks.
China is accelerating the integration of smart technologies in mining.
According to the China National Coal Association, more than 5,000 automated mining trucks are expected to be in use across the country by the end of 2025, with that number projected to double to 10,000 by 2026.

Indonesia, China agree to bolster ties ahead of ASEAN summit
JAKARTA: Chinese Premier Li Qiang warned on Sunday that the rise of 'unilateralism and protectionism' could threaten the global economic and trade order, as he reaffirmed Beijing's ties with Jakarta on Sunday during his visit to Indonesia ahead of a regional summit in Kuala Lumpur. 'Unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise globally, posing a serious threat to international economic and trade order,' Li told Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday, according to Xinhua state news agency. 'In the face of these risks, unity and cooperation are the only viable path forward.' Beijing and Jakarta are key economic allies, with Chinese companies pouring capital into extracting Indonesian natural resources in recent years, particularly in the nickel sector. But the two countries' disputed claims into the strategic waterways of the South China Sea and its nearby territories have weighed on their relationship in recent years. Li said Beijing was keen to further advance cooperation with Southeast Asia's largest economy. 'China is ready to work with Indonesia and other developing countries to... uphold multilateralism and free trade, and advance a multipolar world and inclusive globalisation,' Li said. Prabowo also lauded Indonesia's 'close and good' friendship with China. 'Indonesia is ready to create a safe and prosperous region. Indonesia is ready to strengthen cooperation with China for us to create a peaceful region, which is safe for all,' the Indonesian leader said. Prabowo and Li oversaw the signings of several agreements, pledging closer cooperation in areas including economic development and finance. The presidential palace later announced that eight other agreements were signed in sectors covering tourism, health, investment and media. The Chinese premier is headed next to Malaysia for an ASEAN summit between members of the 10-country bloc, China and oil-producing countries. Prabowo had visited Beijing last year, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping told him that he hoped for a 'new chapter' in bilateral relations. The two countries have in the past sparred verbally over disputed claims in the South China Sea — which China claims almost entirely. Beijing has for years sought to expand its presence in the contested waters, brushing aside an international ruling that its claim has no legal basis. Chinese vessels have occasionally entered Indonesia-claimed areas of the North Natuna Sea at the southern edge of the South China Sea, drawing protests from Jakarta. In October, Indonesia said it drove Chinese coast guard ships from contested waters in the South China Sea on three separate occasions.

Li says China and Indonesia will promote ‘true multilateralism'
SHANGHAI/JAKARTA: China's Premier Li Qiang said on Saturday that China and Indonesia will promote 'true multilateralism', the official Xinhua news agency reported, as he landed in Jakarta on a two-day visit to Southeast Asia's largest economy. China has intensified engagement with countries in the region since US President Donald Trump announced hefty import tariffs on its global trading partners earlier this year. Some levies have since been delayed, while China and the US agreed this month to pause some of their tariffs. Jakarta, whose biggest trading partner is China, has offered the US a number of concessions in a bid to soften tariffs against Indonesia. At a business leaders' event later on Saturday, at which Li was present, Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto said relations between Beijing and Jakarta were key for regional stability, adding that Indonesia views China as an important partner in developing industry and technology. He also praised China's role in defending the interests of developing countries and its stand against 'imperialism' and 'colonialism.' Prabowo and Li will hold a meeting on Sunday to discuss how to strengthen Indonesia-China relations, Indonesian investment minister Rosan Roeslani said in a statement. Following the visit to Jakarta, Li will travel to Malaysia to attend the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, Xinhua reported.
