FlightSafety International Announces Major Expansion at Farnborough Airport

Business Wire07-05-2025

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FlightSafety International (FSI), a global leader in aviation training, is pleased to announce the expansion of its facilities at Farnborough Airport, the home of British aviation and Europe's leading airport for premium air travel connectivity, highlighting its commitment to enhancing aviation safety and training excellence in Europe.
The new FSI centre is expected to open in the second quarter of 2027. Lease terms have been finalised and the planning application was submitted in January. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2025 and finish by early 2027.
FSI has operated a training centre at Farnborough Airport since 2004. The new facilities will boost training capacity by 40-50%, enabling more aviation professionals access to FSI's world-class training programmes. The current facility is 4,680 square metres. It features 11 advanced simulators and training for over 14 aircraft types, including both fixed-wing and rotary-wing models, and trains approximately 3,500 clients each year. The expansion will add 0.7 hectares to relocate parking and create a 4,680-square-metre space for six full-flight simulators, 10 lower-level training devices, and 19 classrooms.
FSI employs over 1,800 professional instructors globally, delivering more than 1.4 million hours of training annually. The expansion will add more than 60 new jobs, including 40 instructors, eight simulator technicians, six customer support specialists, three administrative staff, and five programme managers to the Farnborough location.
'This expansion at Farnborough Airport represents a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing aviation training across Europe,' said Ben Carter, Executive Vice President, Learning Center Operations. 'By increasing our capacity and capabilities, we aim to not only meet the growing demand for high-quality flight training but also reinforce our dedication to improving aviation safety globally.'
By expanding its Farnborough facility, FSI aims to reduce the need for European customers to travel to the U.S. for training. The project will positively impact the local economy as clients often use nearby hotels, bed and breakfasts, and serviced apartments. The expansion is expected to generate an additional 9,000 hotel nights annually, benefiting local businesses, including food, entertainment, and shopping.
Farnborough Airport is Europe's leading business aviation airport, the birthplace of British aviation and the first business aviation airport to achieve carbon neutrality. It plays an essential role in supporting economic growth, contributing £1.9 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the UK economy annually.
Simon Geere, CEO at Farnborough Airport said, 'We are proud to support FlightSafety International's continued growth. The expansion of FSI's facilities at Farnborough Airport will create further local jobs, generate inward investment, increase international business traffic, and ensure that Farnborough continues to be at the forefront of aviation innovation and safety for years to come.'

Sevilla agree deal with manager after insistence from new sporting director

Sevilla have reportedly reached a deal with Imanol Alguacil to take over as their new manager for next season. Los Nervionenses were looking for a permanent answer after six managers in the last two years, and the exit of interim Head Coach Joaquin Caparros. Getafe manager Jose Bordalas was firmly in the running after Caparros left, but Alguacil's name quickly became a frontrunner. Last week Sevilla appointed Antonio Cordon, former Real Betis Sporting Director, to replace Victor Orta, and his favourite for the job was Alguacil. Alguacil takes first job outside of Donostia-San Sebastian Fernando Serrano reports that the deal has been sealed with Alguacil and Sevilla will sign him to a three-year contract. Cordon was pushing for his signature, and Alguacil will now be the face of a new dawn at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan until 2028. The idea is that Alguacil can provide stability and continuity to a Sevilla that have had six managers in the last two seasons. Alguacil will be able to call upon his usual coaching staff, including former assistant Mikel Labaka, and his task includes a strong focus on reviving the at one time renowned Sevilla academy production line. He also had offers from Saudi Arabia and Portugal, but Alguacil has taken on the challenge of rehabilitating Sevilla. Antonio Cordon did a good job at Real Betis. Cordon and Alguacil: two architects for European rivals Cordon has a strong history in recruitment at Villarreal and city rivals Betis, working on a minimal budget that requires sales. Similarly, Alguacil managed to secure European football for La Real in every full season but his final year without major investment, and operating at a profit. The task will be similar at Sevilla, but with a very real possibility that they will be forced to sell their best players from a side that finished just one point above the relegation zone.

Dollar holds steady after U.S., China reach framework deal to ease export curbs

The dollar was steady against its major peers on Wednesday, after U.S. and China agreed on a framework for a trade agreement that investors hoped could potentially pave the way to resolving a damaging trade war between the world's two largest economies. In early Asia trading, the dollar was down 0.14% against the Japanese yen at 144.770, and slipped 0.13% against the Swiss franc to last change hands at 0.8218. The euro was flat at $1.1427, while China's offshore yuan was little changed at 7.1881 per dollar. An index that measures the greenback against six other currencies was little changed and was last at 99.068. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that U.S. and Chinese officials concluded keenly watched talks in London that lasted for two days and agreed to put their trade truce reached last month in Geneva back on track. The framework included resolving China's export restrictions on rare earth minerals and magnets, and will also remove some U.S. export restrictions that were recently put in place. "The devil is going to be in the details and importantly whether this can help to reestablish trust between President Xi and President Trump, which has clearly been broken since the Geneva Agreement was published," said Ray Attrill, head of FX strategy at National Australia Bank. "But it's way too early to say that we know we're in the midst of establishing a cast iron, new U.S.-China trade agreement." Much of the year has been dominated by investors fretting over the likelihood that U.S. President Donald Trump's erratic policies could tip the U.S. economy into a recession, and in turn hurt global growth. The erosion of investor confidence in U.S. assets has severely undermined the dollar, which is down more than 8% so far this year. Later in the day, investors will closely parse a U.S. consumer inflation report that could reflect the economic impact of tariffs on prices, potentially determining the trajectory of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy for the rest of the year. The Fed is expected to hold rates steady next week, with traders pricing in nearly two 25-basis-point cuts by the end of the year. UK's sterling was marginally higher at $1.35 as markets awaited British finance minister Rachel Reeves' public spending plans. The currency came under pressure overnight after data pointed to a weak labor market.
