14 alleged members of 59 Brims and Bloodhound Brims gangs arrested, NYPD and Brooklyn DA announce
NEW YORK -- For the second time in just two weeks, there has been gun and gang takedown in New York City.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez on Wednesday announced that more than a dozen gang members were taken off the streets for violent crimes, including murder.
Last week, police and the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced a separate takedown that resulted in members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua arrested and 34 firearms were seized.
59 Brims and Bloodhound Brims targeted in Brooklyn
Surveillance videos show brazen gunmen opening fire on Brooklyn streets, in a crowded apartment building lobby, and the Coney Island boardwalk over the past few years.
"These takedowns are significant 'cause they target the shooters and those directly responsible to the violence," Gonzalez said.
The Brooklyn district attorney and the police commissioner said they are now off the streets, following a two-year investigation called Operation Baywatch.
The takedown includes a 129-count indictment in which police say 14 alleged members of the 59 Brims and Bloodhound Brims street gangs terrorized residents in Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay.
Officials said a rival gang member was also killed and 18 illegal firearms were seized.
"If you pull a trigger in New York City, the NYPD will find you. We will arrest you and you will face justice," Tisch said.
Criminal group database key to the bust, NYPD says
Gonzalez said the gang members indicted are connected to 19 shooting incidents in Brooklyn that left nine people injured, including several that were innocent bystanders.
"These guns are obviously coming from down South. Recently we've seen a little bit of an influx of guns coming from the Midwest," NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.
Gonzalez added, "We are starting 2025 on the heels of the safest year in the history of Brooklyn, in terms of gun violence."
The NYPD said the city's criminal group database was key in connecting the crimes and criminals. However, the City Council wants to abolish the database, saying it is racially discriminatory.

Children 6 and 9 kidnapped by woman and man in Queens
OZONE PARK, Queens (PIX11) — Police are on the hunt after two girls, 6-years-old and 9-years-old, were kidnapped by a woman and man in Queens on Saturday, according to authorities. The investigation began at 111-26 106th St. around 10:15 a.m., officials report. Man arrested in murder of woman found with neck injury in Brooklyn basement
A 32-year old man has been arrested for murder after telling cops in Buffalo, NY, that his girlfriend was dead at a house in Brooklyn where NYPD cops later found her body, which showed signs of a neck injury, police said Saturday. John Roseau, 32, was arrested one day after he walked into a Buffalo police station and told police there that his girlfriend was dead, giving them the address of a house on New York Ave. near E. 33rd St. in Midwood, a police source said. NYPD officers performing a wellness check found 26-year-old Dahana Jean there in a room in the basement lying on her back unconscious and unresponsive with a neck injury, cops said. EMS pronounced Jean dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, but is still investigating how she died. 'It's terrible. It's disgusting,' said Patrick Joseph, 62, who rents a room in the basement next to the one where Jean's body was found. 'She was only a 26-year-old girl.' The basement of the two-family home where Jean's body was discovered had been subdivided into single rooms separately rented out by individual tenants. Joseph told a Daily News reporter on Friday night that Jean's father used to rent the room next to his, in which the victim's body was found, but that the father had recently died. Jean occasionally stayed in the room following her dad's death, but typically resided somewhere else, according to Joseph. 'She stays here sometimes, but this was temporary,' he said. 'Her father dropped her off here when he was living here.' When asked where Jean lived, Joseph gave an address that police later identified as Roseau's, an apparent building on Snyder Ave. in Flatbush. Roseau is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Marked NYPD cars, ambulance vandalized in NYC before anti-Trump protests
At least three marked NYPD cars and an ambulance were vandalized in the Big Apple between Friday night and Saturday morning, hours before thousands of anti-Trump demonstrators took to the streets, police said. A police cruiser was found parked at 73rd Street and Broadway in Jackson Heights, Queens, around 6 a.m. bearing yellow graffiti that read 'FTP,' which protesters use to mean 'f–k the police,' cops said. A second marked car was found a few hours later on East 152nd Street and Tinton Avenue in the Bronx at 9:20 a.m., with what cops believe was a slashed tire, a police spokesman said.
