India-Pakistan tensions: India and Pakistan on Saturday announced to have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and cease all military action across land, air, and sea, following four days of military escalation, deadly cross-border drone attacks and missile strikes.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said that Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan had called the of India at 3:35 pm on Saturday. 'It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time today," he had said.

However, barely hours after the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir was shaken by a series of drone sightings followed by explosions, prompting security personnel to engage air defence systems to bring them down. The episodes in Kashmir as well as Jammu province evoked severe concerns of possible violation by Pakistan of the freshly announced truce, officials said.

In a late-night press briefing, foreign secretary Vikram Misri condemned 'a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today". 'For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding (which was) arrived at earlier this evening," Misri said.
What Happened After Ceasefire?
Pakistani forces engaged in gunfire and shelling along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) and tried to strike civilian and army areas using drones. There were reports of mortar shelling and small arms fire from the International Border and LoC in RS Pura, Akhnoor and Nowshera in Rajouri district.
In Srinagar, citizens reported several blasts after dusk, with air defence forces engaging a drone flying over the Batwara neighborhood, close to a strategic Army facility. Officials confirmed that the drone was downed. The blasts, which came about every 15 minutes and were preceded by flares illuminating the dark sky, caused instantaneous alarm and confusion.
Drone activity was reported across the Kashmir Valley and subsequently destroyed by an anti-drone system over Baramulla town in north Kashmir around 8.20 pm. Another drone was reportedly brought down at Anantnag high ground, also in close proximity to an Army installation. Sightings of drones were also reported from Anantnag district's Verinag and Bandipora, and Safapora.
A chain of explosions was heard throughout Jammu and Udhampur districts late Saturday night after suspected drones from the neighbouring country were seen moving in the area. Air sirens wailed through parts of Jammu city followed by explosions, resulting in temporary power cuts in some areas.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vented his scepticism about the 'ceasefire" declaration on social media during the evolving events. 'This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up," he posted on X, adding, 'What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!"
In a late night briefing, Misri said the armed forces have been given a free hand to deal with any further provocations along both the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).
Meanwhile, the Pakistani foreign ministry in a late night statement falsely accused India of violating the ceasefire agreement. The statement said that its forces have been told 'to act with restraint", which according to some observers, showed that the Pakistani Army undermines the Pakistani civilian government.
Tensions between India and Pakistan soared significantly after the Indian armed forces on Wednesday conducted precision strikes targeting terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that had cross-border linkages under Operation Sindoor.
Pakistan has since then attempted to attack a number of military installations and civilian population along India's northern and western borders. India has said it has responded befittingly.

Oppn train guns on RSS over call to remove
New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's comments pitching to remove the words 'secular and socialist' from the Preamble of the Indian Constitution has sparked massive outrage in the political circle with the opposition leaders and parties labelling it as an 'insult to the Constitution' and an attack on its framers, including Babasaheb Ambedkar. However, BJP leaders and alliance party Shiv Sena came to defend the RSS leader, reiterating their stand that secularism has been imported from the West and represents Western values and not Indian culture. Attacking the RSS, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the Sangh of 'never accepting the Constitution'. He claimed that they have targeted framers of the Constitution since its inception for not being 'inspired by Manusmriti'. 'The RSS has NEVER accepted the Constitution of India. It attacked Dr Ambedkar, Nehru, and others involved in its framing from Nov 30, 1949, onwards. In the RSS's own words, the Constitution was not inspired by Manusmriti. The RSS and the BJP have repeatedly given the call for a new Constitution. This was Mr Modi's campaign cry during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The people of India decisively rejected this cry. Yet the demands for changing the basic structure of the Constitution continue to be made by the RSS ecosystem,' read a post by the Congress leader on X. KC Venugopal lashed out at Hosabale's statement, claiming that the leader's remarks were an insult to the Constitution, a rejection of its values, and a direct attack on the Supreme Court. 'A senior RSS member surely knows that the Supreme Court declared socialism and secularism to be part of the basic structure of the Constitution. Yet, to take this stand is a clear insult to the Constitution, a rejection of its values, and a direct attack on the Supreme Court of India as well,' he posted on X. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah cautioned that the call for the removal of the words 'secular and socialist' must not be understood as a 'casual remark' but a 'long-standing agenda' to reshape the country's democracy. He highlighted RSS' persistent opposition to the mention of the terms secularism and socialism in the Constitution, which Siddaramaiah said were the 'core values of the constitution'. He added that it was a part of the long-standing agenda of the Sangh to reshape India's democracy within their ideological purview. 'The RSS has always opposed the core values of our Constitution - secularism and socialism. Now, their leaders are once again saying these words should be removed from the Preamble. This is not a casual remark - it is part of a long-standing agenda to reshape India's democracy in their ideological image,' the Karnataka CM posted on X. Focusing on the rights guaranteed by the Constitution to the marginalised communities, the Karnataka CM said, 'If not for these constitutional values, people like me would never have had the chance to study, speak, or serve. That is the power of justice, equality, and secularism.' Siddaramaiah explained that the original Preamble didn't include 'secular and socialist' since it was obvious that India would be a socially just democracy, and these terms were added later at a time when the RSS and its affiliates were attacking these values. Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi added to the criticism while stating that RSS intended to violate the rights of the marginalised and the poor while enslaving them. 'The mask of RSS has come off again,' he added. 'RSS-BJP doesn't want the Constitution. They want Manusmriti. They aim to strip the marginalised and the poor of their rights and enslave them again. Snatching a powerful weapon like the Constitution from them is their real agenda,' the Congress leader posed on X. On the other hand, BJP leaders, including Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, have come in defence of the remarks made by Hosabale, reiterating their argument that secularism was not fundamental to Indian culture and that 'any right-thinking person' would support such a demand as these terms were not part of the original Constitution. 'The basic sentiment of India is equality of all religions... Secularism is not the core of our culture. The word secularism was added (to our culture) during the Emergency. It should be removed... Live and let live is the basic sentiment of India... Therefore, there is no need for socialism here... There is no need for the word socialism (Samajwad) either. The country should think about this,' Chouhan told ANI. Singh emphasised that the words 'secular' and 'socialist' were added later, through the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution during the Emergency, and not by the original drafters. 'Dattatreya Hosabale has stated that the words 'secular' and 'socialist' were added to our Preamble after the Amendment. Dr Ambedkar has crafted one of the world's finest constitutions. If this was not his thinking, how did someone add these words?' the junior minister added. Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC extended support to Hosabale's suggestion while reiterating that the demand to re-examine the original draft prepared by Dr BR Ambedkar stems from the view that in a republic like India, invoking terms such as 'socialist or pseudo-secular' is no longer necessary. 'The RSS is demanding to look into the original draft of the Preamble by Dr BR Ambedkar, in which there is no mention of these words. And the socialism, secularism, that is actually a symbol of India or a symbol of civilisational ethos, then why was it not in the original draft?' Shaina NC questioned. This development comes after Hosabale questioned the legitimacy of including the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution on Thursday while addressing a program on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (under the Ministry of Culture), Ambedkar International Centre. He remarked that during the Emergency, terms like 'socialism' and 'secular' were forcibly inserted into the Constitution -- a move that needs to be reconsidered today. He emphasised that the Emergency wasn't just a misuse of power but an attempt to crush civil liberties. Millions were imprisoned, and freedom of the press was suppressed. He said that those who imposed the Emergency and trampled the Constitution and democracy have never apologised. If they cannot apologise personally, they should do so on behalf of their ancestors. KPCC chief rejects praises, says bypoll result a pointer to 2026
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Sunny Joseph on Friday dismissed the 'Captain-Major' praises that surfaced following the resounding victory of Congress in the Nilambur byelection. "I am just an ordinary soldier," the KPCC president said. Addressing a news conference after the KPCC political affairs committee meeting, Joseph described the Nilambur result as a clear pointer to the 2026 assembly elections. "It is a verdict filled with hope, and one that demands correction from the state govt. The grievances of ASHAs, issues faced by high-range residents and other pressing concerns must be addressed urgently," he said. The KPCC president also launched a scathing attack on the RSS, accusing it of attempting to erase the soul of the Indian republic. Referring to RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's remarks suggesting the removal of the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' from the Preamble of the Constitution, Joseph said: "This is an effort to dismantle the very foundation of our democracy. The RSS had no role in shaping the Constitution. It was formed through the vision and commitment of leaders like Nehru and Ambedkar, based on thorough debates and global constitutional principles." Joseph emphasised that socialism and secularism were introduced during Indira Gandhi's tenure and remain central to the Constitution's character. "Congress will strongly resist any move to undermine democracy, secularism, socialism, and sovereignty. We call upon all secular citizens to join us in protecting these ideals," the KPCC chief said. Joseph accused governor Rajendra Arlekar of attempting to convert Raj Bhavan into a political platform. "It is highly condemnable that a constitutional institution is being misused for political propaganda. All such attempts must come to an end," he said. On the Nilambur byelection, Joseph reiterated that the Congress had no alliance or discussions with any other party. "This was a result of hard work, unity and grassroots strength. It was team effort that earned public approval. P V Anvar is now a closed chapter," he said. The KPCC political affairs committee formally congratulated voters and party workers for the emphatic win. Joseph noted that the result was a serious setback for the LDF, which has plunged into confusion and internal strife. "The CPM's contradictory statements on its RSS connections exposed deep fissures. Even the CPI assessed the verdict as an expression of public discontent. The govt must read this message and correct its course," he added. The KPCC president said the state govt reduced the PSC into a 'rubber stamp' for backdoor appointments. The KPCC political affairs committee also passed a resolution seeking a full investigation into alleged corruption in national highway construction. Joseph questioned why the state was reluctant to act. "Thousands of crores have been siphoned off with political patronage. Even MPs of ruling front have acknowledged the scam," he said.

4415 Indian nationals brought home from Iran and Israel under Operation Sindhu: MEA
New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs Dr. L. Murugan receives 268 Indian nationals repatriated from Israel under Operation Sindhu upon their arrival in an IAF C-17 flight from Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, in New Delhi. (Photo: IANS/X/@MEAIndia) New Delhi: A total of 4415 Indian nationals – 3597 from Iran and 818 from Israel – have been evacuated so far using 19 special evacuation flights during Operation Sindhu, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday. The evacuated Indian nationals included more than 1500 women and 500 children. The flights, including three C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force, also brought home 14 OCI card-holders, nine Nepali nationals, four Sri Lankan nationals and one Iranian spouse of an Indian national. As tensions escalated in West Asia, the government of India had launched Operation Sindhu on June 18 to evacuate Indian nationals from conflict zones in Iran and Israel. On June 17-18, Indian Missions in Tehran, Yerevan, and Ashgabat coordinated the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran through land border crossings to Armenia and Turkmenistan. Special evacuation flights commenced on June 18 and facilitated the return of Indian nationals to New Delhi. The majority of evacuations were carried out through Mashhad, after Iran opened its airspace for evacuation flights under Operation Sindhu on June 20 on New Delhi's request. 'We thank the Government of Iran for this gesture. A total of 3597 Indian nationals — including students, workers, professionals, pilgrims and fishermen – from more than 15 Indian states – were brought back to India from Yerevan, Ashgabat and Mashhad from June 18-26 using 15 special evacuation flights,' the MEA stated. The Israel leg of Operation Sindhu commenced on June 23 with the Indian Missions in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Amman and Cairo facilitating the movement of Indian nationals across land borders to Jordan and Egypt. A total of 818 Indian nationals were evacuated, including students, workers and professionals. They were evacuated from Amman and Sharm al Sheikh from June 22-25 using four evacuation flights, including three IAF C-17 aircraft. 'The Government of India is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad. Under PM Narendra Modi's guidance, Operation Sindhu is another demonstration of this commitment. We thank the Governments of Iran, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Armenia and Turkmenistan for their support during Operation Sindhu. Indian Missions will stay engaged with host Governments and the Indian community in Iran, Israel and the wider West Asia region,' read the statement issued by the MEA. It added that, in view of the re-opening of the airspace, evacuation operations were halted on June 25 and further actions will be taken based on the evolving situation in West Asia.
