Stead and Carr join Bristol Rovers' coaching team
Bristol Rovers have appointed Jon Stead and Rhys Carr as first-team assistant head coaches. The duo will work alongside head coach Darrell Clarke, who returned to the Gas at the start of May following their relegation to League Two for next season.Stead previously worked alongside Clarke at Barnsley during his nine months in charge last season.The former striker, 42, made more than 700 appearances across English football during his playing career including for hometown side Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town, Bristol City and Notts County.
Stead began coaching at Hartford Athletic in the United States after retiring in 2021 and also had a spell at Tampa Bay Rowdies before moving to Oakwell. Carr previously worked at Rovers with their academy sides for a short period during 2022.He left to join Wolves' coaching staff as an player development coach and has also worked with the Republic of Ireland's women's side as an assistant, at Sheffield United, Swansea City, Cardiff City and Bristol City.Most recently the 38-year-old has worked at Coventry City and had a three-game spell as interim head coach when Mark Robins was sacked last November, overseeing two draws and a defeat by Burnley."We're delighted to welcome Jon and Rhys to the club, with both arriving with a vast amount of high-level coaching experience within the industry," said director of football Ricky Martin.

Tel makes Tottenham move permanent after loan from Bayern
June 15 (Reuters) - Forward Mathys Tel has signed for Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal after a four-month loan spell at the Premier League team from Bayern Munich, both clubs said on Sunday. The France Under-21 international has signed a contract at Tottenham until 2031, with media reports saying the deal was worth around 30 million pounds ($41 million). "Mathys Tel came to FC Bayern as a very young player and mastered his first steps at the top level of European football here," Bayern's head of sport Max Eberl said in a statement. "He was a popular figure in the squad, who always gave his all for the club and the team. The move to Tottenham has turned out to be the right one for his development." Tel, 20, joined Bayern from Stade Rennes in 2022 on a four-year deal and extended his contract to 2029 in March last year, scoring 16 goals in 83 appearances for the German club, but struggling to find a place in the starting side. He joined Tottenham on loan in February, making 20 appearances, and was part of the squad which earned the North London club their first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final. Heanor darts shop success down to 'Luke Littler boom'
"Darts has historically been an old man's game in a smoky back room of a pub, but it's not like that anymore."That is the view of darts enthusiast Ryan Clarke - from his shop in Heanor, Derbyshire, which he opened in March, he has seen that change first hand. He attributes the massive surge in popularity in part to one man - Luke 'The Nuke' Littler - who became the youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion in January, aged 17."Some days we can't comprehend how busy it has been," Mr Clarke said, "a big part of it is what Littler has done." The 2024 PDC World Darts final - where a then 16-year-old Littler lost 7-4 to Luke Humphries - saw a peak of 3.71 million people tune in to watch. This was up from 1.9 million the year surge in popularity has benefitted Mr Clarke's shop, he described the response in visitors as "absolutely unbelievable"."Personally, I think without the boom of Luke Littler, I don't know if we'd be here 100%."He added that there were "a lot of great players out there at there minute but the things that Luke's done for the sport is great." A roofer by trade, Mr Clarke has played darts for about 15 years and takes part in a local league. The 32-year-old does not drink and wanted to practice and play in an environment without alcohol. "That is part of the reason why we set this up - just for a different environment and space to be playing darts in rather than having to go to the pub and everything that goes with it."He has also seen a change in the clientele."That's the beauty of this sport," he said. "Because everybody can play on a similar sort of level if the practice is put in... it's so inclusive, I think that's why it's also taken off in the way it has."
