Heavy rain lashed some districts in North Karnataka on Thursday, disrupting life in Raibag and Kudchi in Belagavi district.
Traffic on the main road in Raibag was shut for a few hours on Wednesday. Water entered low-lying houses in Raibag on Thursday.
The Guledgudda-Parvati Bridge over the Malaprabha in Bagalkot district was submerged following heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday. The police diverted traffic away from the bridge.
Water entered several houses, a hotel and a petrol pump in Guledgudda town. Residents used buckets to throw out water.
Light rainfall is expected to continue till Friday, officers said.
Meanwhile, inflow at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir on the Krishna in Almatti was recorded at 12,641 cusecs. The dam has around 61.6 tmcft of water stored. The outflow was about 2,467 cusecs.
Inflow at the Hipparagi barrage was 11,608 cusecs and outflow 5,497 cusecs. The dam has gross storage of 3.14 tmcft against the total storage of 6 tmcft.
The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha has 10.4 tmcft of water against the maximum level of 37 tmcft. The inflow was negligible but outflow was 194 cusecs.
Water level in the Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir over the Ghataprabha in Hidkal was 48.98 tmcft against total impounding capacity of 51 tmcft. The dam recorded inflow of 586 cusecs and outflow was 119 cusecs.
Red alert
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Friday for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts, orange alert for Bagalkot, Belagavi and Shivamogga districts and yellow alert for Vijayanagara, Davangere, Chitradurga, Ballari, Gadag and Dharwad districts.
