Covid-19 Patient Dies In Thane, Another Undergoing Treatment In Hospital

A 19-bed ward has been set up at the hospital for COVID-19 patients and it is equipped with RT-PCR testing facilities.
A COVID-19 patient died while eight new cases of the viral infection were reported in the city on Saturday, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said.
There are a total of 18 active COVID-19 patients in the city, it said, adding that only one of them is undergoing treatment at hospital while others are in home isolation. The condition of all of them was stated to be stable.
A 21-year-old man suffering from severe diabetes died due to 'comorbidities" at the TMC's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital at Kalwa in the morning, the TMC release said.
He had been admitted on Thursday due to diabetes-related complications, and his COVID-19 test came out positive on Friday night, said hospital superintendent Dr Aniruddha Malgaonkar.

The civic body held a high-level review meeting on Friday to assess the situation.
'A sufficient stock of medicines has been maintained at all health centres and COVID-19 testing kits are readily available," said chief medical officer Dr Chetna Nitil.
The civic body also assured that the situation was under control and appealed to the public not to panic.

NEW DELHI: Six more Covid-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Sunday. The country's total Covid count has crossed the 6,000-mark, with 769 fresh cases being reported in the last 48 hours, revealed data released by the ministry. Kerala continues to be the most affected state, followed by Gujarat, West Bengal and Delhi. In all, there are 6,133 active Covid cases in the country. A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3, under the chairpersonship of director general of health services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma, with representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response Cell, National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Research, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, and central govt hospitals in Delhi and with representatives of states and UTs to evaluate the situation and preparedness measures.

Jaipur Foot maker BMVSS invited to UN to showcase work on disability welfare
Jaipur, Jun 8 (PTI) Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), known globally for its 'Jaipur Foot' and rehabilitation for persons with disabilities has been invited to the United Nations headquarters in New York to present its initiatives for disability welfare, a statement issued here said. According to the statement, BMVSS Founder and Chief Patron D R Mehta and Chairman Satish Mehta will make presentations in two sessions on Tuesday, which will be attended by permanent representatives of various countries and other dignitaries. The statement said that the organisation holds a special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. 'Seven years ago the United Nations organized a special meeting of permanent representatives of various member countries to showcase the Jaipur Foot," it said. The organisation has held 114 special camps in various countries in recent years in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and rehabilitated more than 50,000 disabled persons from 44 countries. The United Nations has specially invited BMVSS to discuss various issues related to the disabled (Divyangs) as it has worked extensively in India and abroad, the statement added. Gujarat on second spot with 822 active Covid cases
Ahmedabad: Gujarat was on the second spot in active Covid cases among Indian states as of Sunday morning, according to the dashboard of the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kerala, with 1,950 cases, had the highest number of active cases, followed by Gujarat at 822, West Bengal at 693, Delhi at 686 and Maharashtra at 595. In total, the number of cases crossed the 6,000 mark, reaching 6,133, with 378 new cases, including 105 from Gujarat. Across India, six Covid deaths were recorded, where some of the comorbidities reported included hypertension, ischemic heart disease, respiratory failure, pneumonia, diabetes and kidney disease. "A majority of Covid patients who are being treated in the hospitals in Ahmedabad have existing health conditions. Covid infection has just added to the symptoms, due to which some are on oxygen support. Severe cases are still rare, and more than 90% of the patients with flu-like symptoms recover within three to five days," said a city-based physician.
