Kerala: Coast Guard chopper encounters rough weather; makes precautionary landing

NEW DELHI: A Coast Guard helicopter on a routine coastal patrol made a precautionary landing at a college ground in Kerala on Thursday after encountering rough weather, the defence release said according to news agency PTI.
The Chetak helicopter was returning from patrol when it faced turbulent conditions. As a safety measure, the crew landed at the football field of St. Gregorios Dental College in Chelad, near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district, the release said.
The Chetak helicopter is a light utility helicopter used extensively by the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. It is a licensed version of the French Aérospatiale Alouette III, produced in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) since the 1960s.
Known for its versatility and reliability, the Chetak is primarily used for search and rescue (SAR), coastal surveillance, casualty evacuation, training, and light transport operations. Its ability to operate in diverse environments, including sea, deserts, and high-altitude regions, makes it a valuable asset across India's military services.
Although the Chetak is a proven workhorse, it is gradually being phased out as newer, more advanced helicopters like the HAL Dhruv and foreign acquisitions enter service.

Metro Priority Corridor undergoes trolley trial, extensive inspection
Indore: Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) on Thursday conducted a trolley trial and comprehensive site inspection of the Indore Metro 'Priority Corridor'. The inspection covered approximately 11km, spanning from Malviya Nagar Chouraha Station (Radisson Square) to Super Corridor 01. The trial and inspection commenced at 9am from Malviya Nagar Chouraha Station and concluded at Super Corridor 01. Rath Yatra rituals commence in Prayagraj
1 2 Prayagraj: The religious rituals for Rath Yatra commenced at Shringverpur Dham with the offering of traditional herbal decoction (kaadha) to Lord Jagannath, currently believed to be unwell, on Thursday. According to ancient tradition, similar to Odisha's famous Puri temple, Lord Jagannath in Shringverpur Dham is said to fall ill for fifteen days after the ceremonial Snan Yatra or divine bath performed on the full moon day of Jyeshtha month of Hindu calendar at the Shri Ram Var Vishram Ashram. Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Subhadra and Balabhadra, was brought out of the sanctum sanctorum for a grand ritual bathing after which he is believed to fall ill and goes for rest for fifteen days, called as a period of rest or Anasara. On Thursday, Mahant Peethadheeshwar of Shringverpur Dham, Ram Prasad Das Shastri Maharaj offered a traditional herbal decoction (kaadha) to the deity. He then placed Lord Jagannath in a resting state with proper rituals, offered him special garments, performed his aarti, and began dedicated service for his recovery. Pune Rural police to plant 10,000 saplings during palkhi
Pune: The Pune Rural police has decided to plant 10,000 saplings of local varieties along the palkhi route at police headquarters, police stations, open govt plots, palkhi halting spots, and other locations with the help of district forest officials. "We have already started the drive and planted 1,000 saplings at Pune and Baramati police headquarters," said Pune Rural SP Sandeep Singh Gill. "The decision was taken to plant saplings of neem, banyan and mango, among others under the state govt's Harit Wari (Green Wari) initiative," Gill said. "Constables and beat marshals, with the help of local villagers, will take care of the saplings," he said. Additional superintendents of police Ramesh Chopade and Ganesh Biradar distributed saplings to police stations across the district. On June 22, Pune Rural police will receive the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj at Zendewadi near Dive Ghat and Uruli Kanchan on Solapur highway. "We have identified the spots to plant the saplings. Our teams, along with district forest officials, will plant saplings on govt lands and at villages where palkhis take an overnight halt," Gill said.
