Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest soccer players of all time. Over the course of his career, he had a sporting rivalry with Lionel Messi.

The Portuguese star has always been on top of the game, and at age 40, many wonder when he will stop. He continues to score goals and is still a key part of the Portuguese national team.
With many not anticipating Ronaldo to stay many more years in professional soccer, many still hope that he will actually decide to play alongside Messi for at least one game as a professional player.
Ahead of the UEFA Nations League Final tomorrow between Portugal and Spain, Ronaldo was asked for his thoughts on possibly playing alongside Messi in the near future. The hopeful part for many soccer fans is that he didn't completely shut the idea down.
Cristiano Ronaldo on Lionel Messi
Ronaldo was very welcoming to hear about Messi and Argentina during a press conference previewing a European game between two European giants in Portugal and Spain.

When asked if he would ever see himself play with Messi despite both being near the end of their careers, Ronaldo simply praised the Argentine star and the country itself.
Cristiano Ronaldo: "You never know [playing with Messi] time is there, you know? I'm already 40 years old, but I always say: 'Never say never.' But I find it very difficult."
Cristiano Ronaldo: "Of course, I have affection for Messi. We've been on stage together for 15 years. I remember translating English for him at the Galas because he didn't speak English well. He always treated me well and respected me.'
Ronaldo also revealed having interest from Argentine clubs for the FIFA Club World Cup. Despite the respect and admiration for Argentina, he also mentions that it is almost certain he will not participate in the Club World Cup this month.
Ronaldo on Lamine Yamal
Ronaldo was also asked about the talent of Lamine Yamal. The Portuguese star admits to being impressed by the Spanish teenager and also wishes for the media to avoid pressuring the player.
Cristiano Ronaldo: "The kid is doing very well, taking advantage of his talents. Let the kid grow. Don't put too much pressure on him. Let him be and grow well, take the pressure off. He has no shortage of talent."

A big topic surrounding Yamal is the Ballon d'Or. The youngster is one of the favorites to win it this September, and many voters on undecided with Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha also being top contenders for the prestigious award.
Ronaldo gave his thoughts on the Ballon d'Or award and said that the Champions League is key to awarding the winner, which rules out Yamal in contention.
Cristiano Ronaldo: "For me, whoever wins the Ballon d'Or must be a player who won the Champions League. I think this award has lost its value.'

Joleon Lescott knows the ‘history' opportunity that revamped Club World Cup will give players

Former Manchester City star Joleon Lescott has suited up for a number of major tournaments over the course of his professional soccer career, so it was easy for him to imagine what his former squad was feeling — along with the rest of the 32-team field — as they prepared for the Club World Cup. 'You can't not be excited,' Lescott told The Post. 'It's an opportunity to make history, be the first team to win it. There's a lot of talk about many games and overloads and stuff, but any athlete will tell you that once you start playing, the competitive spirit once you cross the white line will shine. They'll all be trying to win. It is an opportunity to create history.' 4 Joleon Lescott is pictured at a Everton-Southampton match on May 18. The Premier League powerhouse is among the notable names participating in the revamped tournament that will hand out $125 million of the $1 billion total prize pot to the winner. Prior to this year, the Club World Cup was played annually on a much smaller scale in December. Advertisement The new format expanded the number of teams and moved it to June, during the typical offseason for European teams, while creating a much grander event on the soccer calendar. 'For the player's perspective, they'll be excited. Preseason isn't far away and there's games you have to play in preseason, so if you could, if you can play them in a competitive way, in a competitive spirit, it's only going to add, to build in,' Lescott said. 'There's an opportunity for new players as well. I think it was a good idea that FIFA opened the [exceptional registration] window before the tournament, so it gives players an opportunity to shine. Regardless of what the situation is, if you are a new player at a new team, you're going to want to impress. You're going to be judged, so there's an opportunity to impress your fans.' 4 Workers are pictured ahead of the Club World Cup at Hard Rock Stadium. AFP via Getty Images The tournament will also be a small taste of what's to come for next year's World Cup, as well as a showcase for the sport in the United States, which has seen a growth in popularity in soccer over the years, though it still largely trails the impact it has in other parts of the world. Advertisement FIFA has pulled out all the stops to draw in American sports fans during the Club World Cup and broadcast partner DAZN, which will carry every match during the tournament, is streaming every game for free. 4 Manchester City players train June 13 ahead of the Club World Cup. REUTERS 4 Joleon Lescott is pictured during a Manchester City match in 2011. The FA via Getty Images Lescott, who appeared in 26 matches for the England national team from 2007-2013 and played in 107 games from 2009-2014 for Man City, which included playing for the Premier League title team in 2012, noted the growth he's seen from American soccer and its fans. Advertisement 'I think it's obviously as popular as it's been,' he explained. 'The speed of that growth will never be enough for anyone…but as long as there's more people playing, more people talking about it and enjoying the sport and understanding it as well. I think at times earlier, the soccer world in America, there wasn't an appreciation for the defending side of the game, draws. Nil-nils probably wasn't respected because in most of the sports here there's a winner and a loser.' He added: 'I think the understanding of [the game] has grown, which is obviously better for everyone as well.' Manchester City will play its first match of the tournament on Wednesday when it faces Morocco's Wydad AC at Lincoln Financial Field.

Kevin Durant Drops One-Word Reaction As Stephen A. Smith Predicts End Of NBA All-Star Weekends

Kevin Durant Drops One-Word Reaction As Stephen A. Smith Predicts End Of NBA All-Star Weekends originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Adam Silver recently announced that the NBA will shift to a Team USA vs. Team World format, rather than dividing into teams based on conferences. Stephen A. Smith, the NBA analyst from ESPN, was not happy with this decision and claimed it would cause the end of NBA All-Star weekends altogether. Advertisement Kevin Durant, the 15-time NBA All-Star, feels Stephen A. Smith is being too overzealous in his reaction to Adam Silver's latest announcement. He went on social media and expressed his feelings about Smith's response in one word. "Dramatic," wrote Durant on an X post with Smith's quotes. Adam Silver went on FS1's 'Breakfast Ball' and confirmed that the 2026 All-Star Game will feature the Team USA vs. World format in some way or another. "So next year, as part of our new media deals, the All-Star Game returns to NBC, where it was when we were younger. And it so happens that next season, we'll be smack in the middle of the Winter Olympics." Advertisement "The game will be on NBC, and the very day we're on, the lead-in will be Winter Olympic events, and then coming out of the All-Star Game, which is now going to be in the afternoon instead of the evening, there will be more Olympic events. So what better time to feature some form of USA against the World?" In response to this announcement, Stephen A. Smith went on ESPN's "First Take" show and tore into Silver's decision. He seemed to love the decision from Adam Silver but his response indicated an underlying unhappiness with the players. Smith claimed that even Magic Johnson did not care about the All-Star weekend, and this will be a way to make the best players in the world play competitive basketball. However, he later implied that this was a last-resort option for the NBA, and we could witness the end of the All-Star weekend if this new format does not lead to competitive basketball. What Other ESPN Analysts Said About The New NBA All-Star Format Brian Windhorst and Jay Williams also appeared on the First Take segment with Smith following this decision. Windhorst agreed with Smith and said that this is a way to "shame" the players into playing competitive basketball. He even recalled a Kevin Durant incident during the Olympics, where some of the European players claimed American basketball is only entertainment, and Durant questioned whether it's entertaining at all. Advertisement Jay Williams was not at all skeptical about the decision and claimed this would bring accountability to players. He feels that when they go up against major European players like Antetokounmpo, Jokic, or Wembanyama, it will spark a sense of patriotism that will fuel the best basketball American players can also play.
