The Times of India at Roland Garros
: On his way out of Court Philippe Chatrier for probably the last time in his storied career,
Novak Djokovic
dropped his bags, turned to the packed house and applauded them.
Then, before exiting the arena where he has thrice reigned, the 24-time Major winner tapped the ground and patted his chest, showing his love for Roland Garros and Paris.
Djokovic - who had the near 15,000-strong crowd pulling for him in the
French Open
semifinals on Friday night when he faced the world No.1 Jannik Sinner - said his action was appreciation.
'Just a great sense of gratitude for the kind of support that I received tonight,' he said.
'Incredible, I don't think I have ever received this much support in this stadium in my career in big matches against the best players in the world. The crowd were terrific in moments when it seemed like it was going all of his way, they would lift me up and encourage me and give me strength to keep going and fight to the last ball, which I did.
'
'This could have been the last match I played here, that's why I was a bit more emotional in the end,' Djokovic said.

Djokovic's loss to the 23-year-old Sinner may reflect a straight-set scoreline, but the Serb was just 15 points behind the Italian in the total point count, that's how evenly balanced the last-four clash was.
Djokovic, who was asked about his calendar, reiterated that Grand Slams were the priority at this stage in his career.
Poll
Did Djokovic's loss to Sinner surprise you?
Yes, I expected him to win.
No, Sinner is a stronger player.
'Wimbledon is next, which is my childhood favorite tournament. I'm going to do everything possible to get myself ready.
My best chances maybe are Wimbledon to win another Slam or a faster hard court, maybe Australia,' he said.
The world No.6, looking for a historic 25th major title, said the plan was to play the Grand Slams this year, Wimbledon and then the US Open.

Djokovic, who called for a trainer during the semifinal, said he was dealing with a muscular issue throughout the tournament. 'It was bothering me a little bit in some long matches.
It's a muscular issue,' he said.
The Serbian superstar said matches against Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz force you to go for more. 'That's what these kinds of guys Sinner and Alcaraz particularly present on the court. They put pressure, so they're constantly on you and basically increase the pressure as the match progresses,' he said. 'So when the opportunities are presented, it makes you a little more anxious, you want to go for the shot.
'
Djokovic said that while there may be some similarities in Sinner's and his playing styles, they were very different players. 'When I was at my best, I was also playing quite fast all the time. But he's different,' he said. 'With Alexander Zverev (in the quarters) I felt like I had a bit more time from the baseline,. With Jannik, no. No time. So you have to constantly be at your best.'

"No Time To...": NDTV Accesses Cops' Letter Hours Before Bengaluru Stampede

Bengaluru: The police force deployed at the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru had warned against the idea of holding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s IPL trophy celebrations at the grand stairs of the premises, and also raised concerns over the security challenges that would arise due to a shortage of staff at the state legislature's security wing. In a letter to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on June 4, a day after the RCB registered its first-ever victory in the IPL game, Vidhana Soudha's Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) MN Karibasavana Gowda pointed at the lack of time for security preparedness to tackle "lakhs of cricket fans" expected at the spot. He also highlighted the shortage of CCTV cameras around and in front of the Vidhana Soudha, since it is a "vital installation". The details of the letter, reviewed by NDTV, come at a time when the state government is under heavy fire over its alleged mismanagement of the celebrations at the state legislature and the Chinnaswamy stadium, where a stampede killed 11 people, including a 14-year-old girl. Four people, including an RCB marketing head, have been arrested so far. In his letter to the state government, the DCP said: "As the Royal Challengers Bangalore team has a large fan following across the country, holding the felicitation at the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha may attract lakhs of cricket fans, potentially creating security challenges due to a shortage of officers/staff in the Vidhana Soudha security wing." The police officer listed a set of challenges and also recommended a series of measures that should be undertaken to tackle them. He stressed the need for "additional police personnel from outside" to oversee the security, even though it will "require sufficient preparation time". "Coordination with the Law & Order and Traffic Police departments is essential for such a large-scale event, and the current time frame seems inadequate for full preparedness," he said. It also flagged the possibility of the usage of drone cameras by the public and recommended that an Anti-Drone System be installed at the venue. The police advised against the entry of family members of the secretariat staff for the felicitation programme. "The event is to be held at 4:00 PM on 04.06.2025. There is a high chance that Secretariat officers/staff may bring their family members to the venue. Therefore, it is requested that orders be issued prohibiting staff from bringing families and declaring an afternoon holiday for Secretariat staff on the said date. Further, they should be instructed not to attend the event venue," he said. Mr Gowda recommended that "all online and offline passes for public entry to Vidhana Soudha be completely restricted on that day". He said the stage setup for felicitating the players must be certified for structural stability by the Public Works Department (PWD). "Organisers should be informed to make the stage available for inspection at least two hours in advance," he said. "As electrical equipment will be used at the event, a fitness certificate must be obtained from the concerned PWD (Electrical) Assistant Executive Engineer. A formal letter should be sent to them for this purpose," he added. Organisers should be instructed to make the stage available at least two hours before the program for anti-sabotage checks, Mr Gowda said. The officer noted that given that the Vidhana Soudha is a heritage and vital installation building, "it is essential that the program be conducted strictly as per security norms without causing any damage to the structure". "However, the government's final decision will be followed accordingly," he said. On Thursday, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, against RCB, DNA Entertainment and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). According to the state government, DNA Entertainment managed the victory celebrations, while the KSCA organised the event. The KSCA said it had sought permission for the event. Preliminary findings indicated the RCB, DNA Entertainment and KSCA went ahead with the event despite permission not being given. KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, secretary A Shankar and treasurer E S Jayaram on Friday approached the Karnataka High Court, saying the FIR was a "serious miscarriage of justice and seeks to pin responsibility on the wrong parties". Several officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, have been suspended for alleged laxity that led to the stampede.

"Need To Come Sit With Me...": Ricky Ponting's Epic Reply To Preity Zinta Question

One of the most successful captains of his time, Ricky Ponting is an icon in the global cricketing spectrum. Now a coach and mentor, Ponting played a pivotal role in Punjab Kings' qualification into the final of the IPL 2025 season. Though the franchise lost the title-decider to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Ponting's efforts received praise from all across the cricketing spectrum. However, there are certain traits of Ponting, the coach, that the franchise's co-owner, Preity Zinta, hasn't been able to understand. In a candid chat with the PBKS coach, Preity asked how someone like Ponting, who was so aggressive as a cricketer on the field, can be so calm in the dugout? "How does somebody be so aggressive on the ground and as a person, but be so calm and chilled out?," the actress asked. Ponting stumped Zinta with his reply, saying that it isn't actually the case. To experience this, she should come down from the stands and sit with him in the dugout. "You need to come and sit next to me in the dugout sometimes, because you will see that it's not always calm. Look, I'm an aggressive-natured person, especially when it's cricket time," the former Australia captain said. "I'll have a laugh and a joke and a coffee and a sit down with anyone and talk about anything outside of cricket time. But when it's cricket time, it's my job to bring high performance to this team. And so I'm not gonna waste a minute, I'm not gonna waste a day, I'm not gonna waste a training session where I'm not trying to be the best coach that I can be and make every single player that's playing with me the best player that they can be," said Ponting.
