Kuberaa trailer: Dhanush goes from rags to rebellion as Nagarjuna, Jim Sarbh hunt him down. Watch

Fans had been waiting with bated breath to get an extended look at the Dhanush and Nagarjuna-starrer Kuberaa, and their wish was finally granted as the makers unveiled the film's trailer during a pre-release event held in Hyderabad. The event also featured ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli as the chief guest. The trailer offers a gripping glimpse into a world driven by a war for oil, where greed, money, power, and ethics collide and dictate the terms. Dhanush plays a beggar who can't comprehend the value of crores. However, his life changes after he meets Nagarjuna's character, who helps him escape the clutches of poverty. Nagarjuna, however, portrays a character with multiple shades. At one point, he tells Dhanush that in this country, only money and power matter — not ethics or justice. After gaining help from him, Dhanush's character begins a revolt against corrupt politicians and businessmen, including one played by Jim Sarbh. This act of rebellion turns the tide, leading Nagarjuna's character to hunt him down with the intent to kill. A line in the trailer perfectly sums up the mood, 'How did a beggar put a whole government at risk?' Apart from the two leads, Rashmika Mandanna plays a key supporting role and is seen as Dhanush's confidante. The film also stars Dalip Tahil, Sayaji Shinde, Divya Dekate, Hareesh Peradi, and several others in pivotal roles. It is directed by Sekhar Kammula. Kuberaa is bankrolled by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations. The cinematography is helmed by Niketh Bommireddy, while music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. At a recent press meet, Dhanush called the experience of shooting the film both 'fantastic' and 'weird' as it took him out of his comfort zone. 'This film is extremely close to my heart,' he said, adding, 'We shoot at dump yards and inside garbage trucks. As actors, we live very protected lives. We like to do what's convenient. I come from very humble, rooted beginnings. So to go back and see that world again was both enlightening and nostalgic.' Kuberaa is set to release in theatres in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi on June 20.

‘Rana Naidu S2' review: A gritty return that falls short on emotional depth

Netflix's intense crime thriller Rana Naidu is back with its second season, now streaming in Telugu and multiple other languages. With Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh returning in lead roles, the new chapter moves away from celebrity cover-ups and instead focuses on personal betrayals and fractured family ties. But does the sequel hit the mark? Not entirely. Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati) tries to step away from his fixer past and lead a quiet life with his family. However, his peace is short-lived when his son is kidnapped. Enter billionaire Vikram Oberoi (Rajat Kapoor), who helps recover the child—but in exchange, demands Rana's help with personal agendas, including aiding his daughter Alia (Krithi Kharbanda) in buying a cricket team. Meanwhile, ex-con Rauf Bhai (Arjun Rampal) returns with vengeance, creating new threats for Rana, whose own marriage and family are slipping through his fingers. His relationship with his estranged father, Naga Naidu (Venkatesh), also remains unresolved. Rana Daggubati delivers a steady performance, balancing emotional turmoil and action with ease. Venkatesh adds moments of humour, though his use of profanity feels out of place given his usual family-friendly persona. Krithi Kharbanda impresses in a grey role, while Rajat Kapoor and Abhishek Banerjee add to the drama with restrained but effective performances. The show also scores on some well-shot action and emotional scenes. Despite the strong cast, the writing stumbles. Subplots are uneven, the pace drags mid-season, and emotional connections—especially between Rana and his father—lack depth. Arjun Rampal's role is underutilized, and the series' attempt to tone down adult content is undermined by sporadic strong language, making it less family-friendly. Rana Naidu Season 2 offers moments of intensity and strong performances but falters in narrative cohesion and emotional engagement. A watchable but underwhelming follow-up for fans of the first season.
