Farmers, forest officials fight over land issue
Khanapur: Tension prevailed for a while when forest officials appeared from nowhere and laid claimed on the lands being tilled by tribals and Dalits in Pembi mandal on Tuesday. The locals confronted them and forced them to leave.
According to locals, 40 years ago, then Chief Minister Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao himself came to Itikala and gave 70 to 80 acres of land to tribals and non-tribals.
Since then, Dalits and tribals have been tilling those lands and living on them. If we go into the details, the tribals of Itikala in Pembi mandal of Nirmal district are living on paddy farming and growing cotton. Suddenly, for the last three or four days, the forest department have been deploying a large number of personnel to take over those lands and dug holes to plant trees in those lands.
When the Podu farmers came to know about this, they went to their lands in large numbers. When the Forest officials tried to plant trees, the Dalits and tribals confronted them. They questioned how they could block the lands given to them 40 years ago. This led to a confrontation between the Forest officials, tribals and Dalits.
Tension prevails
A woman farmer tried to kill herself to take her land. After a fight between the officials and the farmers for a while, the Forest officials said that the land was theirs. But farmers said that the land belongs to them as they have been cultivating for 40 years and that they will not leave the lands even if they are killed.
The farmers had a big fight with the forest officials and asked them to temporarily stop taking possession of the lands and they turned back and left.

Rahul seeks immediate action against culprits
Bhopal: Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the 11 years of Narendra Modi govt was full of humiliation, violence, and discrimination against Dalits. Rahul Gandhi was reacting to the death of 19-year-old Dalit youth Pankaj Prajapati in Bilahari, Chhattarpur district on Sunday. Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi said, "In Madhya Pradesh, 19-year-old Pankaj Prajapati was shot dead in public only because he, being a Dalit, demanded his share of rights. FIR was not registered, postmortem was postponed – because the guilty leader is sitting in the lap of power and the power belongs to Manuwadi and anti-Bahujan BJP." He added, "The 11 years of Modi govt was full of humiliation, violence, and discrimination against Dalits, adivasis, backward classes, and minorities. The conspiracy to institutionally make them second-class citizens and keep them away from the mainstream is continuing. The culprits should be arrested immediately and given the harshest punishment. I stand with the Prajapati family and every Bahujan of the country. This is a fight for respect, justice, and equality, and we will win this fight at all costs." State Congress president Jitu Patwari said that the Bilahari firing incident exposes the failure of law and order in MP. "This heinous crime has once again exposed the deteriorating law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh under the BJP govt," he said. TNN

BSP to discuss steps for OBC outreach today
Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party will hold a meeting of the newly constituted OBC Morcha of its state unit on Tuesday. The OBC Morcha was formed on March 25, when party national president Mayawati issued instructions to the cadre on how to reach out to OBCs in the state to bring them back to the party fold. In the upcoming meeting, UP state president Vishwanath Pal and other senior functionaries will review the action taken on the instructions of the party president. OBCs, along with Dalits, were once the vote base of the BSP. Many OBC leaders in the state, who now have their own political outfits, were once with the BSP, said sources in the party. To win over OBCs, BSP has started putting functionaries from the backward castes in key roles at the district, sector, and booth-level organisation. They have been instructed to reach out to OBCs in villages and towns and expose the anti-OBC agenda of the BJP, Congress, and Samajwadi Party. They will also highlight the steps taken by BSP govts in UP for the welfare of OBCs, such as constituting a separate department for the welfare of backward classes in the state in 1995 and creating two new districts, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Nagar and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar, in 1997. Mayawati, in the March 25 meeting, asked the cadre to inform the OBCs about the welfare and development schemes initiated for them by the BSP, besides building of memorials, parks, and institutions to immortalise their icons. "Village-level meetings have started and OBCs, along with Dalits, have been made in-charge at every assembly segment to hold these programmes regularly," a party functionary said.
