On April 8, 2025, a rumor spread online that Apple flew five planes full of iPhones into the United States to avoid tariffs.
The claim appeared on X, Facebook and Reddit, while another X post from Dexerto, a video game and entertainment media site, had amassed more than 16.6 million views as of this writing. Its caption read: "Apple reportedly flew in 5 planes full of iPhones into the U.S. to avoid tariffs."
Alongside Dexerto, other publications like PCMag and 9to5Mac also covered the rumor.
As these publications noted in their stories, the Times of India (TOI), an Indian English-language online newspaper, initially reported this claim. TOI based its April 8, 2025, article (archived) on anonymous "senior Indian officials" and the author of the story is cited as "TOI Tech Desk," not a named individual.
Snopes contacted the publication's editorial team to ask if they could connect us with the writer or writers of the story. Apple did not immediately return an inquiry as to whether this claim was true. We will update this report if Apple or TOI respond. However, without comment from TOI or Apple, it was not possible to verify this claim.
TOI's article was somewhat inconsistent — the headline said Apple transported the five planes "full of iPhones" from both India and China, whereas the first line of the story said the company transported "five planes full of iPhones and other products from India" to the United States, with no mention of China. It later quoted an anonymous source as saying: "Factories in India and China and other key locations had been shipping products to the US in anticipation of the higher tariffs." Therefore, it was unclear if TOI was claiming that the five planes came solely from India or if some planes came from China too.
The article also said the shipments happened "in the final week of March" and aimed to avoid "a new 10% reciprocal tariff" imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump that would take effect on April 5.
It is true that Trump imposed a global 10% tariff on that date. However, Trump changed his original tariff policy on April 9 and could change it again in the future.
While Trump did not officially announce these tariffs until April 2, the White House indicated in March that the new tariff rates would go into effect on April 2, making it possible that Apple transported the phones in anticipation of Trump's announcement.
On page six of this report, Apple said that its supply chain spans 50 countries, including China and India. According to an April 2019 article in business magazine Forbes, most of Apple's manufacturing is done in China, although the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on April 8, 2025, that the company is rapidly increasing its presence in India. WSJ also reported on April 7 that Apple plans to source more iPhones from India as Trump's trade war with China ramped up.
Trump announced a 90-day pause on all tariffs except for China in an April 9 Truth Social post.

Are Trump's Policies Harming the Dollar's Reign?
Live on Bloomberg TV CC-Transcript 00:00So we have been on the show tracking the weakness of the USD over the course of this year. And I guess the question that people are is asking is whether this is just a temporary pullback in relation to the uncertainty surrounding economic policies stemming from the US, or is it a structural retrenchment and a real diversification play away from the USD that's taking place? Joumanna, that's the multi-trillion dollar question that everyone is indeed trying to answer. If history is any guide, definitely price for greenback weakness ahead. Just take a look at how the dollar's performed since President Donald Trump took office. 10% down versus the euro. The pound, the Swiss franc and a down against every major currency in the world. Definitely a consensus trade, whether you're in Tokyo, Singapore or Hong Kong or New York is indeed a bearish dollar positions. So definitely watch this space. It is a $7.5 trillion a day market, after all. And overwhelmingly, people are expecting dollar weakness ahead. Yeah. And there's something that you talk about in the book. Take this this concept of a vicious cycle. Weaker USD, obviously could be inflationary, could expand the deficits even even further. What is the potential for this vicious cycle to kick in in terms of amplifying the weakness that we're already seeing in this market? Another great question. Very much so. In focus is the sell America trade. And as you correctly pointed out, is there a risk of a vicious cycle? We have seen pockets of explosions, particularly in Asia, for example, to Taiwan. Last month, surging, South Korean, once surging as well. Now, these aren't just moving in isolation. These incidents have, you know, really brought to financial markets as a whole and will have impact on the US economy because, after all, global trade is global trade for a reason. So as the trade war intensifies, you know, and the US deficit situation doesn't improve, this will definitely be an area of focus where we could see a lot more stress ahead. Okay. So then the question becomes, what is the viable alternative to the USD? A lot of uncertainty still about the European growth prospects. We've seen money pour into gold. Even Bitcoin was at one point pitched as an alternative to the USD, but it doesn't obviously enjoy the same characteristics of safety and being a reliable medium of exchange. So where does the money go if it's not in the dollar? It's another great question and believe it or not, it is something that I debate with traders, fund managers and strategists virtually every single day from Singapore. What is the alternative to the dollar Now if we take a look at the breakdowns? Gold is definitely one that has been touted as a potential alternative. You've also got Euro, the second most traded currency in the world and yen as another. But how viable they are as a true alternative when you consider that a dollar is at 88% of all trades in the world. You know, it's certainly up for debate. People are certainly hunting for alternatives. Whether or not that Titanic moves from the dollar remains to be seen.

iOS 26 Will Radically Reshape the Look and Feel of Apple CarPlay. Learn All the New Free Features Coming Soon
Originally called "iOS in the Car," Apple's CarPlay has come a long way in the last decade. It now supports iPhone connections for more than 800 different models of cars and motorcycles. It's also about to go through a massive redesign with a bevy of new features. Apple is updating the CarPlay experience with the newly revealed iOS 26. Apple announced the changes during its annual WWDC event in Cupertino, California, on June 9. Apple's iPhone-compatible automobile operating system is used more than 600 million times per day, according to the tech giant. The entire CarPlay system is getting a refresh, including icons in light and dark modes, widgets to give you "quick and glanceable ways to get information" while you're on the move and live activities like flight statuses. WWDC 2025: Everything Revealed in 10 Minutes "We've also added new features to help keep you connected while driving, like a compact design when you get a call, so you can still see what's on the screen, like your upcoming directions, along with tap backs and pinned conversations in messages," Apple's Emily Schubert said during the WWDC keynote. There are also now vehicle controls in Apple CarPlay, including radio and climate controls. You can use Apple CarPlay to control the climate in your car. Screenshot by CNET Footage from Apple during the keynote also showed you can send emoji reactions to messages while on the go, without navigating away from your driving directions. You can also see things like calendar reminders and smart home controls in widgets on the side of the display. Apple launched CarPlay Ultra last month, bringing more customized features for automakers to include. "It provides information for all of the driver's screens, including real-time content and gauges in the instrument cluster, while reflecting the automaker's look and feel and offering drivers a customizable experience," Apple said in a blog post in May. All the new CarPlay features coming in iOS 26 Here's a roundup of the major new features that will be added to CarPlay with the launch of iOS 26. Liquid Glass design Just like an iPhone with iOS 26, CarPlay will get the same translucent design overhaul Apple is calling Liquid Glass, with buttons that add a feel of depth. CarPlay icons may not have the same moving effect as on your iPhone, but they'll have the same shiny, glass-like appearance. Compact view One of the most welcome new features of CarPlay with iOS 26 is a new view that doesn't interrupt your navigation when phone calls arrive. Instead of taking over the whole screen, incoming calls will now appear in a smaller windows at the bottom, so you'll be able to see turn-by-turn directions. During navigation, phone calls will now pop-up in a much smaller window at the bottom of the display. Apple/Screenshot by Joe Maldonado/CNET New features in Messages Messages on CarPlay with iOS 26 will add the ability to respond with tapbacks like thumbs up, thumbs down, a heart or exclamation marks. It will also let you pin messages to the top of the interface. New incidents to report in Maps Maps will soon add three new incident types to report in CarPlay. Along with the existing accidents, speed checks and hazards, the iOS 26 update will also include roadwork, road closures and traffic. Video streaming while parked The new CarPlay with iOS 26 will let your stream videos to your car's screen from your iPhone using AirPlay. As soon as your car starts moving, the feature should be disabled. Whether or not you'll be able to stream video may depend on your car model. Live Activities and widgets New Live Activities in CarPlay will provide real-time information while you drive. Apple/Screenshot by Joe Maldonado/CNET Using CarPlay with iOS 26, the same widgets you have on your iPhone should work in your car. Widgets are currently only availble via Apple's premium version of the service, CarPlay Ultra. You'll also soon be able to see real-time updates and info from Live Activities like flight trackers. Smart Display Zoom When this new feature is enabled in CarPlay with iOS 26, the CarPlay interface will be automatically resized to best use the available screen space, no matter its size. For example a smaller screen will reduce the size of the icons so that two rows of app icons can fit properly.

There's a much faster way to access your iPhone app settings — try these shortcuts
The Shortcuts app is easily overlooked. While it's capable of creating scripts to automate tasks and processes, it can initially seem overwhelmingly complex — enough that many may have written it off as an app just for pro users. But in reality, it's relatively straightforward, and more importantly, it's incredibly useful. In fact, it's now more useful than ever. If you've installed iOS 18.4 or later, you can gain single-tap control over certain Apple app settings without needing to open the apps themselves. These new actions are available for the Books, Calendar, Freeform, News, Reminders, Safari, Voice Memos, and Weather apps. Hopefully, this list will expand to include more — including third-party apps. For now, you can create a shortcut for a frequently used setting (such as turning on Optimize Storage in News or enabling Time to Leave in Calendar), place it on your Home Screen, and tap it to make an instant change. Let's see how it's done. To start the process of creating a settings shortcut, you need to launch the Shortcuts app and tap the + icon in the top-right corner. Next, you have to tell Shortcuts which app you want to work with. There are two ways of doing this. You can simply browse the list of apps — just tap an app you want to use bearing in mind that some apps won't let you set up a settings shortcut. Alternatively, type settings in the search box. This will list apps that definitely have associated settings shortcuts and it's generally the quickest approach. In either case, you need to tap an option called Change [app name] Settings related to the app you want to work with. You will see a customizable shortcut action. For example, if you selected Change Safari Settings then you'll see the action Turn AutoFill Use Contact Info Off. You will see text highlighted in blue. In our example, both Turn, AutoFill Use Contact Info and Off are highlighted in this way. You can tap any blue highlighted text and select an option from the dropdown menu. When you're finished, tap Done. Let's give an example. With Safari, you can tap Turn and change it to Toggle. You can select AutoFill Use Contact Info and choose from a large number of options from Block Pop-Ups and Close Tabs to Open Links and Search Engine. The action will change depending on the options you choose. For example, you could select Search Engine and the action will become Set Search Engine to Search Engine. If you then tap the second instance of Search Engine, you could choose from the likes of Google, Yahoo!, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. The resulting shortcut would allow you to run an action that instantly changes the default search engine. It's worth playing around. You can run a shortcut from the Shortcuts app. You just need to tap the Shortcuts tab at the bottom of the screen and then select the shortcut you'd like to run from those that are listed. A shortcut can also be added to the iPhone's Home Screen and run with a simple tap. Doing so means you won't even need to launch an app to use it. To do this, find a shortcut in the Shortcuts app and long-press its title. Tap Details and select Add to Home Screen. And there you go.
