Being at the top of list of best things is something everyone would be proud of. I mean, having a road or school named after you or a Wikipedia page is also noteworthy, but when it comes to ranking the best teams in a sport over a period of time, who doesn't want to be on top?
On that note, the Ohio State football program should be able to beat its chest a little thanks to the latest ranking from The Athletic, which took on ranking the top 25 college football programs over the last 25 years. If you're counting, that's from the year 2000 on. And ... according to the piece, YOUR Ohio State Buckeyes are numero uno during that time period.
Now, it's important to note how The Athletic came about these rankings, so we'll give you the cliff-notes version. Stewart Mandel took a look at win %, BCS/NY6 bowls, national titles, conference titles, top ten wins, top 25 wins, top ten rankings, top 25 rankings, and losing seasons. He ranked them all and came up with a final tally of how the teams stacked up.
When you look at all of that, Ohio State is really the only team that has stayed away from a downturn over the last 25 years. Because of that, it is No. 1 in winning percentage (.840), top ten wins (39), top ten rankings (75.4%), and top 25 rankings (92.7%). That was enough to rank ahead of No. 2 Alabama -- largely because of the time period before Nick Saban's arrival in 2008.
The staying power and recession-proof era for the Buckeyes is very, very impressive and you shouldn't let anyone tell you the program is overrated because of the numbers and success on the field. Teams rounding out the top ten behind OSU and Alabama are Oklahoma (3), Georgia (4), LSU (5), Clemson (6), Oregon (7), USC (8), Texas (9), and Florida (10).

Alabama's opponent for 2025 SEC-ACC Basketball Challenge revealed

Alabama's opponent for 2025 SEC-ACC Basketball Challenge revealed Alabama basketball has reportedly learned its opponent for the annual SEC-ACC Challenge. CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported Wednesday that Nate Oats' Crimson Tide will take on coach Brad Brownell and the Clemson Tigers at Coleman Coliseum in the 2025 SEC-ACC Challenge. An official date and start time were not announced. The matchup between Alabama and Clemson will be a rematch of teams who met twice during the 2023-24 season, most notably in the West Region final of the Elite Eight in Los Angeles. The Crimson Tide punched their first-ever ticket to the Final Four with an 89-82 win over the Tigers at Arena (Staples Center) on March 30, 2024. Alabama made 16 3-pointers in the victory, getting a game-high 23 points from Mark Sears, who made 7-of-14 shots from beyond the arc, and 19 points off the bench from Jarin Stevenson. Alabama and Clemson previously met in the 2023-24 regular season on Nov. 28 in Coleman Coliseum, an 85-77 Tigers victory in that year's SEC-ACC Challenge. One of Tigers' star players from their 2024 run to the Elite Eight, forward Ian Schieffelin, recently joined Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football team as a tight end. Last year, Alabama defeated North Carolina in the SEC-ACC Challenge, 94-79 in Chapel Hill behind 20 points from Sears and 15 apiece from Labaron Philon and Aden Holloway. Philon recently announced his decision to withdraw from the 2025 NBA draft and return to Tuscaloosa for his sophomore season. As part of their 2024-25 schedule, the Crimson Tide will also face Illinois in Chicago, Purdue at Coleman Coliseum, Rick Pitino's St. John's Red Storm at Madison Square Garden, and the Arizona Wildcats at Legacy Arena in Birmingham among other nonconference foes. Alabama finished 28-9 last season and reached the Elite Eight before falling to Duke in the East Region final in Newark. The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 6 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. Clemson went 27-7 overall and 18-2 in ACC play and was a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers fell to McNeese State, 69-67, in a first-round upset in Providence, Rhode Island. Clemson was ranked No. 23 in the final Coaches Poll. Contact/Follow us @RollTideWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Alabama news, notes and opinions.

Ohio State football receives pledge from 2026 four-star edge rusher

Ohio State football receives pledge from 2026 four-star edge rusher Coming out of a big recruiting event last weekend, the Ohio State football team has a little momentum. The Buckeyes first received a pledge from 4-star in-state running back Favour Akih, and just on the heels of that news, OSU now has a commitment from 4-star defensive end Khary Wilder. Out of Gardena, California, Wilder is ranked as the No. 242 player and 32nd-ranked edge rusher in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He chose Ohio State over Notre Dame, Alabama, UCLA, and Washington. He is the first defensive lineman in the class to commit to the Buckeyes. With the news, OSU's 2026 class has now grown to 15 total commitments and has jumped up to the No. 2 class in the country according to 247Sports. The Buckeyes still have plenty of room in the class it is putting together, and Larry Johnson would love to add more to the defensive line. We'll continue to cover all things Ohio State recruiting and bring you any noteworthy news as we continue to tread towards the Early Signing Period that begins in December. Update on Alabama football start times vs SEC opponents for 2025 season

Update on Alabama football start times vs SEC opponents for 2025 season Alabama-Georgia kickoff time, TV channel announced. Crimson Tide matchup vs. LSU will be night game. Alabama football provided some new information related to start times against its 2025 SEC opponents Wednesday. The highly anticipated showdown between the Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs, set for Sept. 27 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, will kick off in prime time. Similar to last season's matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama-UGA is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC. The Crimson Tide defeated the Bulldogs, 41-34, in coach Kalen DeBoer's first big test as head coach last year. Alabama's game at Missouri on Oct. 11 will be an 11 a.m. CT kickoff on either ABC or ESPN. The Crimson Tide will be making their first visit to Faurot Field since Nick Saban's 2020 national championship team opened the pandemic-shortened season there on Sept. 26 with a 38-19 victory. Not surprisingly, Alabama's annual showdown with LSU on Nov. 8 will also be a night game. Although an official kickoff time was not announced Wednesday, the game will kick off at either 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. Alabama's matchups with Vanderbilt and SEC rivals Tennessee and Auburn were given the 'flex' window tag, essentially meaning the conference and ESPN haven't decided on official start times. For now, the tag simply means that Alabama won't be playing its two biggest rivals at 11 a.m. Additionally, the Crimson Tide's Nov. 22 game against Eastern Illinois in Tuscaloosa was announced as a 1 p.m. start. The game will only be available for streaming via ESPN+ and SEC Network+ Prior to Wednesday's updates, Alabama announced its Week 1 kickoff against Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Aug. 30 would be a 2:30 p.m. start on ABC. The Crimson Tide will face Louisiana-Monroe the following week at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network. Alabama's game against Wisconsin on Sept. 13 will kick off at 11 a.m. and be televised on ABC or ESPN.
