Ming-Chi Kuo: the third generation of iPhone Slim will have a larger display

GSM Arena05-05-2025

The iPhone e will be a yearly release, unlike the once-in-a-while SE launches. This means that Apple will be conducting two iPhone launches a year – and future vanilla models may be unveiled alongside the e-model rather than with the Pros.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a timeline for how future iPhone launches will be scheduled and included some information about the future Slim models with that. From left to right: iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Slim and iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 Slim will be taking the place of the iPhone Plus, though it will be smaller – we've heard that it will have a 6.55' display. The iPhone 18 Slim in 2026 will remain the same, but the iPhone 19 Slim in 2027 will have a larger display, according to Kuo.
How much larger? This far out, probably even Apple doesn't know the exact number. Still, the Plus model may be reborn in spirit a couple of years from now – just in a thinner and lighter shell.
By 2027 the definition of 'large iPhone' will have grown past the Plus and even Pro Max – the iPhone 19 Slim is supposed to launch alongside the second generation foldable iPhone. Now those should have properly large displays.

iPhone 17 to be an underwhelming upgrade

Vlad, 31 May 2025 A few hours ago a rumor claimed the iPhone 17 would grow its screen size to 6.3" (from 6.1" in the iPhone 16), matching the Pro model. With this rather significant upgrade in tow, you may have expected the phone to come with other substantial upgrades in other areas as well. But apparently not. According to a new research note by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 will be powered by the A18 chip, and will have 8GB of RAM. Those are not typos - that's the exact same chipset and RAM amount that its predecessor has. iPhone 16 So, in this regard, the iPhone 17 will just be an ever so slightly larger iPhone 16. This is despite the fact that all three other members of its family will get the A19 chip as well as 12GB of RAM. The iPhone 17 was at one point said to be considered for a memory upgrade, but that was apparently decided against after all. As for the chip staying the same as in the iPhone 16, that's a more baffling decision that clearly won't make it a best-seller. But maybe that's the point - Apple trying to nudge people towards the more expensive and more profitable Air, Pro, and Pro Max models. Apple now rumored to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches

Apple has been rumored quite a few times to be developing haptic buttons for iPhones, but obviously they haven't yet launched. Now, a new rumor claims that not only has Apple restarted the haptic button project for future iPhones, but the company has allegedly expanded its reach to also include iPads and Apple Watches. So it pretty much seems like Apple is now going all-in with haptic buttons, for better or worse. Obviously, it thinks their advantages are worth it. These solid-state "buttons" which technically aren't actual buttons reduce mechanical wear (to zero, since they don't move at all), while also letting you (or Apple) set different functionalities for a light press and firm press, or a short press and a long press, or all of the above. Haptic buttons were rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max most recently, but plans were allegedly shelved. And now, the shelf is open and development is on the way again, of course, if this rumor is accurate. It doesn't tell us when to expect haptic buttons to reach Apple's products, so it's probably safe to bet that it won't be happening this year. According to the source of this rumor, the reason why Apple hasn't yet launched any devices with haptic buttons is that it hasn't quite cracked the issue of mistouches. Maybe now it will be able to fix it - in time for the iPhone 18 family perhaps? Apple iPhone 16 Pro Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max Source (in Chinese)
