Underwater jetpack backpack lets you explore ocean depths

Underwater jetpack backpack lets you explore ocean depths

If you've ever dreamed of gliding underwater with the freedom of a dolphin, the CudaJet might be the gadget for you. Unlike most underwater propulsion systems that strap onto your arms or legs, the CudaJet is worn like a backpack, giving you a hands-free way to cruise beneath the surface. It's a fresh approach that feels a lot more natural and comfortable, especially for longer swims.
The CudaJet's story started almost seven years ago. Back then, it was just a prototype called the Cuda, a passion project by British designer Archie O'Brien during his final year at Loughborough College of Art and Design, now known as Loughborough Design School. Archie wanted something lighter and faster than anything else out there, and in 2023 his vision became reality with the first commercial CudaJet.
Now, the CudaJet has been redesigned with a longer battery life, lighter build and updated features, making it even more appealing to underwater adventure seekers.
So, what's it like to use? The main unit is a dual-jet-drive pack that attaches to a padded neoprene harness, which you wear on your torso. You control everything with a hardwired, trigger-style remote that lets you adjust your speed and keep an eye on the battery level. One of the biggest improvements for 2025 is the battery. While the original model provided approximately 40 minutes of underwater fun for every 75-minute charge, the latest version extends that time to a full 90 minutes per charge. That's more than double the original runtime, so you can explore even more on a single outing.
CudaJet can take you down to a maximum depth of 131 feet, and it delivers about 88 pounds of thrust. That translates to a top speed of roughly 10 feet per second, or about 6.7 mph. Now, that might not sound fast on land, but underwater it's a whole different story. The company likes to point out that at 10 feet per second, the drag force on your body is about the same as flying through air at nearly 200 mph. It's an exhilarating experience that feels powerful and smooth.
The 2025 redesign also trimmed some weight from the original, reducing it from approximately 33 pounds to just over 30 pounds, including the harness. The harness itself comes in four sizes, so you can get a fit that feels just right. Safety is clearly a priority as well. Each CudaJet ships with a factory-set safety depth of about 10 feet, which you can adjust up to the full 131 feet if you're feeling adventurous. If you ever go past your set limit, the motor cuts out and floats you right back to the surface. The controller's full-color display keeps you updated on your speed, battery and depth at all times.
CudaJet is aimed at the luxury market. Think superyacht owners and underwater adventure lovers who want something special. Each jetpack is made to order, handcrafted and painted in the U.K. The 2025 package starts at around $31,000, which is a jump from the original price, but it now includes a two-year warranty, a luxury hard case and a fast charger. For those who want something even more exclusive, there's a Founder's Edition with lifetime product access, in-water training with the founder and a lifetime warranty, but only 20 of those are being made.
Since each CudaJet is made to order, buyers should expect a personalized experience. The process involves custom-fitting the harness to your size and selecting your preferred finish, all of which are handcrafted in the U.K. Due to this approach, there is typically a wait time before delivery, which varies depending on demand and the customization options. This ensures you receive a truly unique jetpack tailored just for you.
It's pretty amazing to see how far CudaJet has come since it started as a student project. Now it's no longer just a clever idea; it's a real way to zip around underwater and see the ocean from a fresh perspective. With the longer battery life, lighter design and smart safety features, this jetpack is definitely for anyone looking to make their underwater adventures more exciting. If you love being in the water and want to try something truly different, and the price fits your budget, the CudaJet could be your next big thrill.

Taylor Swift's Debut Album Reaches A New Peak Almost 20 Years Later

Taylor Swift's 2006 debut returns to four U.K. charts following her announcement that she now owns ... More the masters to her first six albums, reaching a new peak on two lists. Taylor Swift (Photo by Jason Squires/WireImage) Taylor Swift is having a landmark week on charts around the world after revealing she has finally acquired the rights to her first six albums. For years, Swift has been steadily re-recording and re-releasing her early catalog in an effort to regain control of her work. Many fans have supported that campaign by deliberately avoiding streaming and purchasing the original versions of the projects that initially made her a star. Now that she officially owns the masters to those albums, Swift's entire catalog — especially the first half-dozen studio LPS — is experiencing a renewed surge. One release in particular, Taylor Swift, the self-titled debut that launched her career, is suddenly back in the spotlight. The country-pop singer's 2006 debut appears on four charts in the United Kingdom this week, reentering three of them after being absent just days ago. It becomes a strong seller again as fans revisit the only two albums from that era Swift has yet to re-release, Taylor Swift and Reputation. Although Swift revealed the updated version of Taylor Swift is finished, she hasn't shared it with the world yet, but that has no longer stopped fans from celebrating the original. The self-titled affair breaks into the top 10 on the Official Album Downloads chart for the very first time this week, as it soars to a new peak of No. 6. Previously, it had only reached as high as No. 40, and that was back in March 2009. The jump grants Swift her milestone fifteenth top 10 hit on the U.K. downloads tally. Taylor Swift also reaches a new high on the Official Albums Sales chart in the U.K., climbing to No. 29. The record had not placed on the sales ranking in the previous frame, and this moment marks only the second time it's broken into the top 40 on the list of the top-selling titles in the country. Its prior best was No. 34, which was set just last summer — nearly two decades after its original release. On the Official Physical Albums chart, the debut reenters at No. 42, though it doesn't set a new peak on that roster. Perhaps most notably, Taylor Swift rockets from No. 6 to No. 2 on the Official Country Artists Albums chart, placing Swift just one spot away from claiming yet another week at No. 1. She's held back from the summit by I'm the Problem by Morgan Wallen, which refuses to budge.

A family thought the sculpture on their piano was a ‘fake' Rodin. Now it's sold for nearly $1 million

A sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin that had disappeared from public view for almost 120 years and was thought to be a copy has sold for 860,000 euros ($984,000) at auction. 'Le Désespoir,' which shows a female figure sat on a rock holding one foot with her knee hugged to her chest, was rediscovered at the end of 2024 after last being sold in 1906, said auction house Rouillac in a statement on Sunday. Rodin, who lived from 1840-1917, made several versions of 'Le Désespoir.' This particular sculpture was modelled in 1890 and sculpted from marble in 1892-93. Measuring just 28.5 centimeters (11.2 inches) by 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) by 25 centimeters (9.8 inches), the sculpture was originally modelled to form part of Rodin's monumental work 'The Gates of Hell,' which features more than 200 figures and groups. The previous owners – a family from central France – had no idea of its value and had displayed the sculpture on top of a piano alongside family photos, auctioneer Aymeric Rouillac told CNN on Tuesday. 'They said 'it's a fake, it's a copy,'' Rouillac said, but he decided to investigate further. The details of this sculpture are striking, Rouillac told CNN. 'The back, the muscles, they are perfect,' he said. 'You can feel every vertebra in the spinal column.' Following his own initial investigation, Rouillac took the sculpture for assessment by the Comité Rodin, which maintains a catalogue of the artist's work. On Tuesday, Jérôme Le Blay, co-founder of the Comité Rodin, told CNN that he was immediately struck by the 'exceptional' piece. 'I realized in a second that it was real,' he said. 'I had absolutely no doubt.' This particular example is 'extremely well made,' said Le Blay, adding that it dates back to a period when Rodin was dedicating a huge amount of time to making a small number of sculptures. Rodin would have worked with assistants who would have carried out the initial work on a piece of marble, before he performed the final stages, he explained. According to Le Blay, the sculpture dates to 'one of the best moments of Rodin's career,' before his growing fame meant that he started to produce more and more works after the turn of the century. Upon his death, Rodin left his works to the Musée Rodin in Paris, as well as granting it permission to continue producing his bronze sculptures. While many of these posthumous bronzes go under the hammer each year, marbles are much harder to find, said Le Blay. Most of Rodin's marbles are owned by the Musée Rodin or by other large museums around the world, he said. 'Marbles in private collections are rare,' he said, adding that this piece has a 'kind of magic' due to the fact that it has reappeared for sale after such a long time. Following a 'passionate' auction, the winning bid was made by a young banker from the US West Coast, according to the auction house.
