Curl power! Actress Karen Gillan's startling new hairstyle leaves fans stunned
Her bold hair transformations for movies and manic makeovers have earned her a reputation as one of Scotland's best-loved stars.
But Karen Gillan 's latest 'do has left her fans scratching their own heads.
The actress took to Instagram on Saturday to debut an outlandish new look that is worlds away from her usual sleek tresses.
Posing in oversized sunglasses and a two-piece sweatsuit, Karen sported a voluminous perm in her signature ginger hue.
With no caption to explain her radical new style, fans were left questioning whether the perm signals the start of a fresh filming project, or is simply a nod to the actress' quirky sense of humour.
The mystery deepened as another photo shared on Karen's stories showed her crazy curls piled above her head – with an orange, crab cap perched jauntily on top.
The surreal pictures are by no means the first time that Karen's hairdressing has turned heads. In 2013 the actress shaved her off her locks entirely in preparation for her role as Nebula in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Karen then recycled her shorn tresses when she appeared in a wig of her own hair later that year to play Amy Pond in a Doctor Who Christmas special episode.
Steven Moffat, head writer on the show, joked: 'That wig is made of her own hair, it's just detachable now. When they cut her hair they made her a wig of her own hair. Didn't she look lovely?'
Karen's shock chops are not limited to professional makeovers either, as the star has succumbed to a DIY disaster on several occasions.
Last February, Karen filmed herself attempting to cut a new fringe minutes before she attended a promotional Q&A event.
Documenting the ill-fated trim on TikTok she gasped: 'Oh my god, oh my god, this is a bad idea. That was a mistake: this is rubbish!'

A music festival had to be halted tonight after a band member collapsed on stage in front of horrified fans. British band The Christians were performing on the last night of On The Waterfront Festival in Liverpool when one of the members appeared to collapse. Medics quickly rushed onto the stage at Liverpool Pier Head after lead singer Garry Christian shouted for help. A privacy screen was put up on stage with a message on a large LED screen reading: 'We appreciate your patience and understanding. Medical staff are with the performer, and we will provide an update as soon as we can.' 'I'm just so sorry because Garry loves Liverpool and he wanted to put on the show of his life and we're really devastated but thank you so much.' The Christians were performing ahead of Grammy-winning Sting's Sunday night headline set which closes out the four-day event. The former Police frontman was given the band's blessing to perform where he addressed the crowd to reveal The Christians' member was recovering in hospital. 'All of us are praying he's going to be fine. Our thoughts are with him,' the Englishman in New York hitmaker said, according to The Mirror. The Christians had hours earlier posted on its Facebook page as the band was carrying out a 'soundcheck in a grey rainy On The Waterfront Liverpool'. 'But we won't let it dampen our excitement see you [sic],' they wrote. The Christians was formed in the 1980s by Garry Christian and his brothers Roger and Russell. Roger died of a brain tumour in 1998, with Russell leaving the band in 2005. Their self-titled debut album reached number two in the UK charts with their biggest hits On The Waterfront Festival was founded in 2021 and last year saw 45,000 people attend. The Wombats, and The Wolfe Toones were among the headliners to perform this year.

Kelsey Parker's ‘haunting' words about pregnancy months before sudden loss of baby son
KELSEY Parker's "haunting" words about life being "precious" were penned just months before the sudden loss of her baby son. The Wanted star's widow announced the devastating news that her baby with new boyfriend Will Lindsay was "born sleeping" - a week before his due date. 3 3 3 Kelsey, who was married to singer Tom Parker, said in March that was trying to enjoy every moment of her pregnancy after losing her husband to a brain tumour in 2022 taught her "how precious life is". Tom was aged just 33 when he died of glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, just 18 months after diagnosis. Speaking to OK! Magazine earlier this year, then-pregnant Kelsey said: "I'm due at the end of June. I'm trying to enjoy this pregnancy more, because I think when you've been through something like I've been through, you realise how precious life is. "I know that sounds clichéd, but it's true. "I just want to enjoy every moment of it with Will. When I fell pregnant with Aurelia, I thought I had my life set. "I had the perfect life – I'd been with Tom since the age of 19 and had everything sorted. "Then my world got flipped upside down and I think that teaches you how precious life is." Kelsey wrote a beautiful poem to tell fans about the death of her third child Phoenix Parker-Lindsay. In it, she details how Phoenix was "so loved, so longed for, yet not alive". "No breath you drew, no eyes to see, still you mean everything to me," she added. Watch heartbreaking moment Kelsey Parker sobs over late husband Tom's voice Kelsey then asked for "understanding and space" to process the "earth-shattering news". A phoenix bird symbolises immortality, resurrection and life after death. In a statement posted on Instagram, Kelsey said: "Before I receive an influx of lovely messages and heartfelt well wishes, I want to just say that I truly appreciate everything you are all going to say and share. "But with the news being so raw, I would really like to ensure that we as a family are given space and time to process this devastating and earth-shattering news. "I love you all and thank you for your understanding and space."
