Bua Thai Cafe in Abu Dhabi

Bua Thai Cafe in Abu Dhabi

You know those hidden spots that you almost miss by walking right by – but once you find them, you never stop talking about them? Bua Thai Café at Yas Bay Waterfront is exactly that. Tiny, cosy and packed with flavour, this blink-and-you'll-miss-it spot serves up some of the most authentic Thai food in town – complete with a Thai government stamp of approval and a heartwarming story behind every dish.
Part of the award-winning Desert Lotus Group (they also run the highly commended Thai restaurant Desert Lotus), Bua Thai isn't just a place to eat; it's a full-on love letter to Thailand, signed, sealed and stir-fried by chef Bua herself. Her culinary journey began with preparing meals for earthquake victims in Nepal. The café embodies a story of resilience and passion.

The vibe is relaxed, but don't mistake this for quiet. This place is packed more often than not, whether it's lunchtime or late dinner o'clock.
You can pick from both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, it's cosy and intimate, seating around 20 people, in comfy blue and purple velvet chairs and sofas. Outside, it's a prime spot for people watching or water views over the bay.
But the food is the real star of the show. Things are kept traditional here, but for good reason – like they say, if it ain't broke…
Signature dishes include the classic Pad Thai, but not as you know it. Go for the beef Pad Thai, perfectly seasoned and with just the right amount of heat.

But for those who don't love spicy food, don't worry – staff will check and adjust spice levels to your liking. In fact, the massaman curry is a good one to try if you don't like heat in your food – rich and flavourful without burning your tongue.
Portions at Bua Thai are on the smaller side, but with prices under Dhs70, it's a great place to enjoy Thai flavours without breaking the bank.
In a neighbourhood packed with delicious dining options, Bua Thai Café proves that sometimes, the best things really do come in small packages.
So next time you're strolling Yas Bay Waterfront, keep your eyes (and appetite) wide open – because missing this little spot would be a very big mistake.

Cala Vista: Could this be one of the best Italian restaurants in Dubai?

When you think you've tried all the best Italian restaurants in Dubai… There are some restaurants you hear about, mentally bookmark, but never make it to – until one day, you finally do. For me, Cala Vista, Mina Al Salam was one of them. It opened last year while I was away. Now that I'm back, I've been slowly catching up on all the spots I missed – and let me tell you, Cala Vista officially landed on my 'can't wait to go back' list. I thought I was just checking out another Italian restaurant – turns out, I was late to one of Dubai's best. I know, I know, Dubai isn't exactly lacking when it comes to Italian restaurants – the creamy burratas and tiramisus – we've seen it all. But every now and then, one stands out – and Cala Vista is one of those places. Why? Let's start with the setting Because whether we mean to or not, most of us are wired to judge with our eyes first – and when the setting is on point, everything else gets an early win. At Cala Vista, you're seated right in front of Burj Al Arab – not in the distance, not peeking through buildings, but in full view. Sure, we've seen it from every angle, but this one still stands out – cinematic, a little surreal, always magical. And when the food lands, the same attention to detail carries through. It looks every bit as good as it tastes. The food While I've had more Italian dinners than I can count, this one had a certain spark. We started with the Burrata Pomodori (Dhs95) – creamy and exactly how you want your burrata to be. Then came the Fritto Misto (Dhs135), perfectly crisp and ideal for sharing. The Insalata di Agrumi (Dhs70) – a citrus salad – added a clean, bright contrast to the richness of the other dishes. For mains, the La Piccant e pizza (Dhs125) brought just the right amount of heat with spicy salami. The Agnolotti (Dhs140) – braised oxtail ravioli with aged balsamic – was a favourite. Rich, warming, and deeply satisfying. The Tagliolini al Limone (Dhs130) a signature dish, with homemade pasta tossed in Parmigiano Reggiano. And if you're going with friends, the La Milanese (Dhs310) is the one to share. We finished with two desserts: Il Limone (Dhs70), a lemon sorbet served inside a hollowed Amalfi lemon. And the Bomboloni (Dhs50), fluffy Italian doughnuts with a chocolate dip – easily a favourite. Vista Brunch If you're into the brunch scene in Dubai and love Italian food, Cala Vista should definitely be on your list. Every Sunday, from 12.30pm to 4pm, Head Chef Luca and restaurant manager Pasquale are hosting the Vista Brunch – an Italian-style lunch inspired by their family Sundays growing up. Expect sharing starters, pasta mains, classic sides, and indulgent desserts. There's live music from a roaming band, making it feel like a true celebration of la dolce vita. Why everyone's talking about InterContinental Abu Dhabi's coolest summer dining experience: Dock and Dine

Summer is almost here and when the temperatures are rising, is there any place better to be at than on a boat? We don't think so. The sea breeze cooling you down, the turquoise-coloured water and views for days around the capital… Sign us up. The only thing that could make this dreamy scenario even better? Having top-notch dining options when it's time to eat, of course. Enter the InterContinental Abu Dhabi Marina's Dock and Dine, which might be one of the coolest ways to head out to lunch or dinner this season. Thanks to their fabulous marina, you can simply dock your boat hourly or daily and head into any of their dining venues. With more than nine restaurants and bars available, there is plenty of choice for whatever mood you're in. Delicious seafood with a Thai twist? Hop off the boat and head to Fishmarket, where there is no menu (yes, really) – just select what you fancy from the market display and sit back while the pros prepare it for you just the way you like it. Journey across the world through different flavours Ready to take your taste buds on a global adventure without leaving the marina? Start with Porto Gina, where simple, authentic Italian flavours come in generous portions perfect for sharing. If Lebanese cuisine is more your vibe, Byblos Sur Mer offers a stylish setting with all your favourite mezze and grilled dishes – plus unbeatable views and live music to set the mood. But the international flavours don't stop there. Cho Gao will be calling your name with some pan-Asian cuisine, while Chamas Churrascaria will have you enjoying incredible meat cuts, churrasco style (that's Brazilian barbecue, FYI). Seafood lovers will find their paradise at Fishmarket, where you pick your fresh catch and let the chefs create a masterpiece right by the Arabian Gulf. If cosy European comfort food is what you're after, Belgian Café offers all the classics. Mussels, crispy frites, and slow-cooked stews, all paired with a great selection of Belgian hops. Jones Social brings together bold global flavours and laid-back vibes, perfect for sharing plates, sipping creative mixed drinks and catching up in a stylish space. And when it's time to unwind, Bayshore Beach Club invites you to relax by the sea with a private beach, poolside cabanas, light bites and refreshing drinks, offering the perfect end to your culinary journey. Plan your visit You'll have to reserve this one in advance and share your boat docking details in advance so you can have a smooth sailing.
