Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day parade officially cancels roll
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The rescheduled Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day parade has officially been canceled.
On Thursday, March 27, parade officials reported that after monitoring the weather, which is expected to bring storms and the possibility of lightning, the club has decided to cancel citing the public's safety.

'This is a disappointing outcome, especially after the long and complex process of rescheduling this year's parade,' said Dickie Burke, president of the Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Club. 'We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the effort and helped us get this far.'
The parade was originally set to roll on St. Patrick's Day weekend but due to high winds and rain, the krewe set the new date for March 29.
Officials add that tremendous coordination went into gaining the necessary approval and handling logistics.

We also wish to congratulate and recognize our 2025 parade honorees: Grand Marshal Raymond 'Randy' King Jr., Man of the Year James E. 'Jimmy' Kuhn, Queen Bree Rafferty, and her court.
We thank the entire New Orleans community for its continued support and understanding. We look forward to returning in 2026 with renewed energy and the same Irish Channel spirit that's kept this tradition alive for nearly 80 years.

Firefighters respond to St. Tammany Parish house fire
ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Firefighters responded to a home in St. Tammany Parish after it caught fire on Saturday morning, June 7. Cut Off couple arrested on drug charges
CUT OFF, La. (WGNO) — A Cut Off couple has been arrested following a traffic stop turned drug bust that occurred on Monday. According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office, the investigation started when agents received a tip from Bayou Region Crime Stoppers back in November of 2024. As a result of the tip, an arrest warrant was obtained for 47-year-old Trent Sanamo and a search warrant was obtained for his home. Slidell 17-year-old accused of armed robbery Later, on June 2, 2025, Trent and his wife, 44-year-old Chasity Sanamo, were found traveling in the Cut Off area, prompting agents to perform a traffic stop. Trent was arrested on the active warrant and deputies say methamphetamine, clonazepam and drug paraphernalia were all found in his possession. They also say his wife was found with drug paraphernalia. Trent was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on charges of distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of clonazepam and possession of drug paraphernalia, with a bail set at $57,000. Chasity was issued a criminal summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. Three weeks later, two Orleans Parish jail escapees remain on the loose
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The hunt for Derrick Groves and Antoine Massey is entering its fourth week after they allegedly escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center, and new developments are still coming almost daily. Earlier this week, a home in the Fairgrounds neighborhood was raided after two videos surfaced online with Massey proclaiming his innocence. Bounty hunter believes escaped inmate Antoine Massey's days are numbered However, Groves hasn't been seen since the night of the escape, when he was reportedly caught on video walking down an alley on Baron Street. 'Massey appears to be, emboldened, almost taunting law enforcement and the community that that's in search for him, whereas Derek Groves has been as far as we know, he's been very quiet and is flying under the radar,' said CEO of New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation Melanie Talia. Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Fair agrees, saying Groves appears to be lying low. As for Massey, Fair thinks the videos, and a photograph found on social media just yesterday could be a strategic move. 'I think he's trying to throw his case out, that he's innocent of the charges. Could he be pretending to be somewhere else? Yeah, absolutely. We don't know that for a fact. Could be trying to throw us off like 'I am in Houston' while he's still here or wherever he is,' said Fair. Legal analyst Barry Ranshi says the photo and videos could backfire in court for Massey. 'Can't imagine a scenario with that type of information that he is posting on the run, acknowledging that he left the facility, that it would help. The prosecutors will have to authenticate the evidence, assuming that they're able to meet that threshold, that would be evidence,' said Ranshi. 'Mr. Massey does have the tattoos. Mr. Groves is a very tall man, and he has a very long stride. Swings his arms when he walks.
