A second man facing charges in connection with the stabbing death of a Chelsea high schooler has fled the country, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden's office said.
Ezer Lenin Ramirez-Maldonado, 18, of East Boston, faces counts of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder, Hayden's office said in a statement.
No other information about Ramirez-Maldonado's whereabouts was shared.
Ramirez-Maldonado is one of three people charged in connection with the stabbing death of Juan Carlos Lemus, 17. Chelsea and State Police learned of a double stabbing on Eastern Avenue around 8:45 p.m. on March 8, Hayden's office said previously.
A 15-year-old boy was also stabbed during the incident, but he survived.
On Thursday afternoon, Brayan Alfredo Lopez-Padilla, 26, of Chelsea, appeared in Suffolk Superior Court, Hayden's office said. He was charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder.
Lopez-Padilla is expected to return to court for a pretrial hearing on July 10.
A 17-year-old boy suspected of the high schooler's death was also not arraigned on Thursday because of a "defense attorney work stoppage," Hayden's office said. The teenager was held overnight and is expected to appear in Boston Juvenile Court on Friday.
Lemus's friends and family remember the Chelsea High School student as a 'cherished young soul' who loved hip-hop, video games and Burger King. He was a member of Ministerio Monte De Sion Church in Chelsea and aspired to read the Bible cover to cover.
No further information about the double stabbing — including the relationship between Lopez-Padilla and Lemus or a motive — has been released.

Human skull found in Pitcairn was found inside house last owned by man who disappeared 20 years ago

There is no caution tape on the doors, no evidence markers on the sidewalk and a construction crew is working. But those who live on 7th Street in Pitcairn can't help but think about what was found. 'I want to cleanse the area and call a priest! Seriously,' said neighbor Betty Rice. Allegheny County Police said the homeowner found a skull inside, but according to County Property Records, the homeowner is Charles R. Beltz, who disappeared 20 years ago. 'Was there a crime? Was he just found? Were there any cult practices? I just think it's weird,' said Rice. According to State Police, Beltz disappeared on June 7th, 2005, after traveling to Elk County for a fishing trip. His wife filed a missing persons report, but he was never found. Dennis Dirkmaat recently retired as the Director of the Applied Forensic Sciences Department at Mercyhurst University. For over 30 years he has worked to identify people based on bones. 'Fake vs real is instantaneously, once we take a look at it or see it. But the rest of it is measurements, the look, as I said in detail,' said Dirkmaat. He said in most cases, bones can be identified. 'We have a forensic odontologist, and she got a skull that morning, and by that evening, has been able to compare and make a positive ID,' said Dirkmaat. Allegheny County Police have not identified the skull found in Pitcairn as the construction on the home continues. 'I want justice for the victim... If there is a victim,' said Rice. Peoria man, 19, gets 40 years for deadly shooting in Peoria's North Valley

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A 19-year-old Peoria man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Friday for gunning down another man near the now-demolished Taft Homes nearly three years ago. Lamarion Wright apologized to Peoria County Circuit Judge Steve Kouri for 'everything that I have done' especially for the Sept. 20, 2022 shooting of Christopher L. Tillman at the now-demolished Taft Homes. In November, Wright pleaded guilty to murder in return for a cap on any prison term at 50 years. Normally, murder has a 60-year maximum and if a gun is used, then it could be decades more. Wright had asked to take back his guilty plea, saying he believed he was told by his former attorney that he could out of prison when he was 20. That's not the case under the terms of the deal. In reality, that was the minimum possible sentence he could have received. He could be eligible for parole in 20 years as he was 16 at the time of the shooting. After a 30 minutes of legal tussling by the two sides, Kouri denied Wright's motion to get out of his plea and proceeded with the sentencing hearing. Wright was identified as a suspect fairly early in the case due to the clothing he wore the night of the shooting. Surveillance cameras from a nearby construction site caught the incident. Tillman, who was in a white shirt, was seen arguing with another person, a man dressed in a black sweatshirt with a stuffed animal around his waist. Tillman started to run off and the other person, Wright, was seen on the video shooting at him. Prosecutor David Gast pushed for a maximum 50 years under the cap, saying that Wright 'Brutally murdered a man as he was running away from him.' Also, the prosecutor said, Wright had trouble both at the juvenile detention center and later at the jail. Gast called him a bully, a vandal, insubordinate and violent. He noted that a shank was found between the pages of his Bible at the jail. But defense attorney Bryan J McIntyre pushed for a sentence nearer to the minimum, noting that his client was a teen and that anyone who has been a parent would know that teens make bad decisions and choices. A sentence near the minimum would still be enough to punish his client and yet, not being overly excessive. An appeal is likely. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
