Boulder attack: What are the charges against Mohamed Sabry Soliman? ‘First-degree murder' among list of felonies

Hindustan Times2 days ago

Charges have been revealed against the man who attacked a group of people who had gathered in support of Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday afternoon, June 1. Police said eight people were hospitalized with burns after Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, tossed Molotov cocktails at the gathering while shouting "free Palestine."
Soliman was taken into custody without incident and later transferred to a hospital to be examined after being hurt during the attack, according to ABC News. He is being held on $10,000,000 bond, according to the Boulder County Jail. Soliman is an Egyptian national identified by the White House as an 'illegal alien' who overstayed his visa.
According to Boulder County Jail booking records, Soliman was arrested on the following charges, as reported by kxan:
It is unclear why Soliman is facing a first-degree murder charge, as there have been no fatalities in the attack.
Meanwhile, following the attack, Gov. Jared Polis wrote on X, 'I am closely monitoring the situation in Boulder, and my thoughts go out to the people who have been injured and impacted by this heinous act of terror. Hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable. While details emerge, the state works with local and federal law enforcement to support this investigation. More information will be provided as it becomes available.'
In another post, Polis wrote, 'As the American Jewish community continues to reel from the horrific antisemitic murders in Washington, D.C., it is unfathomable that the Jewish community is facing another terror attack here in Boulder, on the eve of the holiday of Shavuot no less. Several individuals were brutally attacked while peacefully marching to draw attention to the plight of the hostages who have been held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza for 604 days. I condemn this vicious act of terrorism, and pray for the recovery of the victims.'

Indian envoy to Egypt calls Operation Sindoor delegation ‘crucial' to tackle Pakistani misinformation

As an all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule visited Egypt, Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K Reddy called it a "crucial visit" and said the delegation played an important role in countering misinformation spread by Pakistan. Speaking to ANI, Reddy said, "In the age of social media and information overload, it is important that correct information is shared with everybody. This delegation was crucial to dispel the misinformation spread by Pakistan. It would help to convey the right message, so countries can ask Pakistan the right questions." He added that the visit reflected the strength of India's democracy, as it helped communicate the public sentiment following recent terror attacks. "This was an essential visit because it reflects the strength of our democracy. It helped to convey the outrage and the sentiments of the people of India. This was communicated well and also received well by Egypt," Reddy said. He added, "They (delegation) had very good engagement with the leaders of Egypt. They met the Leader of the House (Upper House of the Senate) and many distinguished Senators. After it, they had a meeting with the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and other members. Their exchanges were very productive. They understood our position and strongly condemned the terrorism. They specifically stated that terrorism cannot be accepted in any form. There is no justification for terrorism." The Ambassador also mentioned that the delegation had interactions with opinion makers and the Indian community in Egypt. "This was later followed by interaction with the opinion makers... we exchanged many views. This was later followed by the vibrant Indian community in Egypt was grateful that the delegation came here and explained the situation in India to them. They shared their outrage with the members of the delegation," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, who is leading the all-party delegation to Egypt, said that the group held a constructive meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He reassured them that India and Egypt need to work together in peace, trade, and culture, as the two nations are uniquely placed. While interacting with local leaders, opinion makers, and think tanks in Cairo, Sule expressed gratitude to Egyptian leadership for standing firmly with India during the challenging and painful time and expressed his commitment to peace. He said that India launched Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that PM Modi sent seven groups of parliamentary delegations to several nations. The delegation, led by Supriya Sule, includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan and Syed Akbaruddin. The Supriya Sule-led parliamentary delegation also paid a floral tribute to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Memorial, who laid their lives in World War I and World War II. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries.

"Productive, meaningful": BJP's V Muraleedharan hails all-party global outreach campaign

Cairo [Egypt], June 4 (ANI): Calling India's global outreach campaign against state-sponsored terrorism 'productive' and meaningful', Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and multi-party delegation member V Muraleedharan asserted that the international community supported India's efforts to counter terrorism during the campaign. Speaking to ANI, the BJP leader also called for a global initiative against terrorism and all its forms and manifestations. '...I found it very much productive and very meaningful, and I found a consensus among everyone in favour of India, especially on the issue of terrorism. Everyone condemned the terrorist attacks that happened, and everyone was supportive of the efforts that India is making to counter terrorism. It just also felt that a global initiative has to be there and a consensus has to be created across the world against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,' Muraleedharan said. BJP leader V Muraleedharan was a member of an all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule that has completed its 4-nation visit to South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Qatar. Earlier, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule said on Tuesday that the group held a constructive meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He reassured them that India and Egypt need to work together in peace, trade, and culture, as the two nations are uniquely placed. While interacting with local leaders, opinion makers, and think tanks in Cairo earlier, Sule expressed gratitude to Egyptian leadership for standing firmly with India during the challenging and painful time and expressed her commitment to peace. She said that India launched Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She added that PM Modi sent seven groups of parliamentary delegations to several nations. Supriya Sule noted that the delegation's visit to Egypt comes at an extraordinarily challenging time in India. She recalled how 26 innocent civilians were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. Highlighting the efforts made by the Indian government to normalise ties with Pakistan, Supriya Sule said, 'When this attack happened, clearly, it came as a surprise and a shock to all of us because our Prime Minister, when he first took oath in 2014, made an effort which was a part of continuity. Earlier, we had Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji for 10 years, who was one of the finest leaders India has seen, who reached out to all the countries, and as you're all aware, governance is continued. So, we have made sure that what Atal Bihari Vajpayee did as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ji and now Prime Minister Modi ji.' On Tuesday, Supriya Sule met Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the New Administrative Capital. After the meeting concluded, Badr Abdelatty condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians and said that such attacks can't be tolerated. The delegation, led by Supriya Sule, includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan and Syed Akbaruddin. The delegation briefed international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries. India is peace-loving nation committed to 'no-first-use' nuclear doctrine despite terror threats: Vikramjit Singh Sahney

Cairo [Egypt], June 4 (ANI): AAP MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, a member of the all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, on Wednesday said that India has effectively conveyed to the global community that it is a peace-loving nation committed to a 'no first use' nuclear doctrine, despite facing repeated provocations through cross-border terrorism. Speaking to ANI, Sahney said, 'We have been able to drive the message home that India is a peace-loving nation, and has a policy of no first use of nuclear despite being a nuclear power. Over the last couple of years, India has been driven against the wall by continuous cross-border all the countries, each one of them agreed that giving terrorist activity or cross-border terrorism a colour of religion is highly condemnable... There will be tremendous political pressure on Pakistan now because each country is suffering from terrorism in some form or another,' Sahney added. Sahney also noted that India had shared clear proof of Pakistan's hand in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. 'Some people asked us for evidence (for Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam attack). We told them how a company from our neighbouring country approached a US company for satellite images (of Pahalgam), and how their Army Chief had invoked religion,' he told ANI. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, who is leading the all-party delegation to Egypt, said that the group held a constructive meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He reassured them that India and Egypt must work together in peace, trade, and culture, as the two nations are uniquely placed. While interacting with local leaders, opinion makers, and think tanks in Cairo, Sule expressed gratitude to Egyptian leadership for standing firmly with India during the challenging and painful time and expressed his commitment to peace. On Tuesday, Supriya Sule met Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the New Administrative Capital. After the meeting concluded, Badr Abdelatty condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians and said that such attacks can't be tolerated. Labelling the relationship between India and Egypt as 'historic,' Abdelatty added that Egypt and India need to enhance their economic relationship to match the excellent political relationship between the two countries and their leaders.'It was a great pleasure to receive the Parliamentary delegation from relationship is historic. But, we need to enhance further our trade investment and economic relationship to match the excellent political relationship between the two countries and their position is very clear: we condemn, in the harshest words, the terrorist attack in Kashmir. We cannot tolerate any attacks on civilians,' the Egyptian minister told ANI. The delegation, led by Supriya Sule, includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan and Syed Akbaruddin.
