"Tripura eyes $23,000 per capita income by 2047": CM Dr Manik Saha

India Gazette25-05-2025

New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha on Saturday said that the present state government has prepared a Strategic Road Map to build an Unnato and Shreshtho (Developed and Great), future-ready Tripura.
Saha said this while addressing the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting in New Delhi, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister JP Nadda, and other distinguished Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers and Lt Governors of Union Territories, Vice Chairman and the Members of NITI Aayog.
Dr Saha also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for the 'successful execution of Operation Sindoor.'
He said that Operation Sindoor symbolises our strength, unity, and collective resolve to protect the country.
'The success of Operation Sindoor has conveyed a strong commitment towards national security and zero tolerance against terrorism,' Saha said.
Dr Saha said that the Government of Tripura has prepared a Strategic Road Map to build an Unnato and Shreshtho (Developed and Great), future-ready Tripura.
'Elaborate exercise was carried out over the last one year through consultations with NITI Aayog, Ministry of DONER, academic institutions, expert consultants, industry and business leaders, eminent citizens, and officials,' he said.
He said the state government has identified nine key enablers that will support robust growth at 12 per cent per year over the next two decades. These are a strong agricultural base, high literacy, rich tourism assets, abundant natural resources, a forest economy, improved infrastructure, strategic location, widening tax base, and the state's energy surplus status.
'The Key Enablers are supported by five Pillars of Governance. These are policy reforms, institutional building, capacity building, business reforms, reduced compliance burden, and digital governance. In Tripura, e-Office is implemented from the State Cabinet to the Gram Panchayat level. Although we have some challenges, with progressive State policies, transparent administration, and an investor-friendly environment, we are confident of overcoming these. With emphasis on medical wellness, eco-tourism, IT, knowledge economy, resilient agriculture, rich history, cultural heritage, and sports, we estimate to increase our per capita income from 2,300 dollars at present to 23,000 dollars by 2047,' Saha said.
Saha said that in order to accelerate manufacturing and services in a Tier-3 city like ours, the state government is developing industrial infrastructure in 20 Industrial Estates.
'We have the Tripura Industrial Investment Policy 2024 to promote manufacturing and services, and have implemented all 387 business reforms as mandated under the Business Reforms Action Plan 2024. We have enacted the Tripura Jan Vishwas Act 2025. Under the guidance of the Task Force on Deregulation set up in the Cabinet Secretariat, we are reducing the compliance burden in State Laws, Local Bodies, Industrial Corporations, and Utility Providing Agencies. As a result, we are getting substantial investments in the Rubber, Bamboo Processing, Health, Education, Data Centres, Hospitality, Business and Commerce sectors,' said Dr. Saha.
Speaking about MSMEs, Saha said that there are 86,117 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tripura and the State has a strong base of 60,318 Self-Help Groups with 5,49,559 members and 94,723 Lakhpati Didis.
'We are encouraging members of Self Help Groups to become entrepreneurs. We are pushing to transform the rural non-farm employment scene by unlocking potential in sectors like bamboo, agarwood, rubber, spices, dairy, aquaculture, and eco-tourism. We seek national and international collaboration and support from NITI Aayog and the Central Government in scaling these initiatives,' he said.
He also informed us that the state has initiated the development of an 800 MW pump storage project to achieve the renewable energy target.
'We aim to develop a State-specific Green Economy Policy Framework by adopting a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach through the inclusion of youth and women and developing a robust Green Start-Up Ecosystem,' Saha said.
He informed that the state government is substantially investing in the development of human resources.
'The government has established incubator centres in universities and colleges, both general and technical, to provide opportunities for youth to transform their ideas into startups and enterprises. We are focusing on creating more 'job creators' than 'job seekers.' We are providing avenues and opportunities to youth in the spheres of Tourism, Sports, Culture, Filmmaking, etc. The State's GDP growth of over 15 per cent during the last three years has indicated that this journey has commenced on an encouraging note,' he added. 'Chenab & Anji Bridge are transformative projects': PM Modi hails infra push in J&K; watch top moments from his visit

PM Modi shares highlights from J&K visit NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared a video capturing highlights from his visit to Jammu and Kashmir a day earlier, where he inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, and Anji Bridge. After the formal ceremony, PM Modi walked across the bridge while waving the national flag, symbolising both India's engineering prowess and patriotic spirit. Posting on X, he wrote, 'Highlights from a memorable visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The Chenab Rail Bridge and Anji Bridge are transformative projects!' During his visit, the Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat train service connecting Katra in Jammu to Srinagar in Kashmir. The Chenab Bridge, which rises 359 metres above the river, taller than the Eiffel Tower, is a critical infrastructure project that closes a long-pending gap in rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, ensuring year-round access. Located in the Reasi district, the rail arch bridge is an excellent example of engineering marvel. After the inauguration, PM Modi visited a photo exhibition showcasing the technical challenges overcome during the bridge's construction and interacted with the engineers and workers who built it amid extreme weather and tough terrain. The Anji Bridge, over Chenab river, is also a key part of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link. The Prime Minister's visit to Jammu and Kashmir was also significant as it marked his first trip to the region since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.

Chenab bridge: How project team navigated through steep slopes on horses and mules

KATRA: To realise the vision of travelling from "Kashmir to Kanyakumari" by rail, the project team behind the construction of the Chenab bridge faced several challenges. Among them was how to reach the location surrounded by the steep slopes of the Himalayas. The team had only one option -- horses and mules. According to Afcons Infrastructure Limited, the top infrastructure company that constructed the bridge, one of the main and earliest challenges was access to the bridge location, to transport equipment and construction materials. "Initially, mules and horses were used by the project team to reach the location. Slowly over a period, temporary roads were created and access was made available to the site," a spokesperson from the company said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the iconic Chenab Bridge, Anji Rail Bridge and Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project and flagged off Vande Bharat trains, connecting Katra to Srinagar. The spokesperson added that eventually, on the North side of the river bank, an 11-km road was constructed and a 12-km road on the South side. Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Vice Chairman, Afcons, said the Chenab Railway Bridge is more than just a marvel of engineering. "It is a symbol of India's resolve to conquer the most formidable challenges with ingenuity and courage," he told PTI. The company used the world's tallest crossbar cable cranes and specialised heavy machinery as tools for this ambitious project. "The ancient and steep slopes of the Himalayas were tamed using massive consolidation grouting, making them sturdy for the colossal arch foundations," the company said, highlighting challenges it faced. "With the foundations set, the erection of the arch from both sides was planned by the cantilever construction technique. The first big moment of triumph came on April 5, 2021, when a single majestic arch approaching steadily from both banks met at the crown," it added. "The viaduct construction was another unique challenge. There were multiple transition areas. Keeping this in mind, the launching sequence was meticulously planned in four sections," the spokesperson said. Giridhar Rajagopalan, Deputy Managing Director, Afcons, told PTI that for the first time in Indian Railways, incremental launching was done on a transition curve and a longitudinal gradient, both occurring at the same location, for the deck launching of the viaduct portion of the Chenab Bridge. S Paramasivan, Managing Director, Afcons, "For Afcons, it represents our unwavering commitment to nation-building and our ability to reimagine infrastructure in the toughest terrains. This bridge will inspire generations of engineers and stands as a tribute to the power of Indian engineering and teamwork." For the first time in the Indian Railways' history, a laboratory accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration (NABL) was set up to ensure that quality was being monitored at every stage of the project. Situated at a height of 359 metres above the river, the Chenab bridge is 35 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris and the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab river. After inaugurating the Chenab bridge, PM Modi walked on it holding the Tricolour high. He travelled in a rail engine coach to reach the spot.

Pakistan reacts as PM Modi says Islamabad involved in Pahalgam attack

Pakistan said on Friday it was "dismayed" over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that Islamabad was involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed. Commenting on PM Modi's remarks, Pakistan's Foreign Office said it "firmly rejects the baseless and misleading remarks" made by PM Modi. 'We are deeply dismayed that the Indian prime minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence,' it said in a statement, as per news agency PTI. PM Modi accused Pakistan of targeting "insaniyat and Kashmiriyat" through the terror attack in Pahalgam during his speech in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. PM Modi reiterated that the April 22 Pahalgam attack was a stark example through which Pakistan "intended to incite communal violence in India and cripple the earnings of hardworking Kashmiris". 'What happened in Pahalgam on April 22 is a clear example of this. Pakistan attacked both insaaniyat and Kashmiriyat in Pahalgam. Its intention was to incite riots in India. Its aim was to stop the earnings of the hardworking people of Kashmir. That's why Pakistan targeted the tourists,' PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Katra after inaugurating the first direct train service to the Kashmir Valley. He added, 'The way the people of Jammu and Kashmir have stood up against Pakistan's conspiracy, the strength shown by the people this time has not only sent a strong message to Pakistan, but also to the entire world's terrorist mindset. Jammu and Kashmir's people have given a powerful response.' Earlier on Friday, the prime minister inaugurated the Chenab bridge and India's first cable-stayed Anji bridge, both symbols of India's engineering excellence, before flagging off Vande Bharat trains to mark the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link (USBRL) providing direct train connectivity to the Valley. About two weeks after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. (With inputs from agencies)
