Ohio State spring game: Buckeyes honor the past, showcase 2025 talent

Fox News13-04-2025

Ohio State held its annual spring game on Saturday, as the reigning College Football Playoff national champions took to the field in front of over 40,000 people at Ohio Stadium.
The offense won 50-31, with fans getting a closer look at the ongoing quarterback battle between Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz. Sayin, a redshirt freshman, completed 17 of 24 passes (70.8%) for 175 yards and one touchdown. Kienholz, a third-year sophomore, went 12 of 18 (66.6%) for 158 yards with two touchdowns, while true freshman Tavien St. Clair completed 11 of 15 attempts (73.3%) for 116 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Keinholz got the first snaps with the starters, many of whom were rested after the first few drives, before he and Sayin began trading drives. Sayin appeared to have an edge in the hunt to replace Will Howard.
Ohio State also has to find replacements for TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins in the backfield. On Saturday, true freshman Bo Jackson carried the ball 13 times for 88 yards, while redshirt freshman Sam Williams-Dixon had 11 carries for 64 yards and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass.
All-American sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Smith played just two series before heading to the bench, while redshirt freshman Mylan Graham led the way with four catches for 104 yards and one touchdown. Graham showed off his speed when he took a slant route from midfield to the house.
On defense, Faheem Delane and Inky Jones accounted for the two interceptions by St. Clair. The Buckeyes' defense will have to step up after the departures of standout defensive ends JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer.
Head coach Ryan Day, returning for his seventh season, set up the intrasquad scrimmage that used a scoring system for both sides. For the offense, points came from touchdowns and field goals, while the defense earned six points for touchdowns, three for a takeaway, three for a three-and-out, two for a sack and one for a forced punt.
"In order for us to play defense like we did last year, we're going to need some guys to step up more than they have," Day said on Saturday. "I think, again, there's ability there, but consistently playing at a certain level is something that's a challenge that I know Coach [Larry] Johnson is going to be pushing these guys for over and over again."
Among the 40,136 in attendance at the Horseshoe were former players such as Howard, Emega Egbuka and Gee Scott Jr., who received their 2025 national championship rings, as did returning players like Smith and Caleb Downs.
The Buckeyes will officially begin their title defense when they host Texas on Aug. 30.

Ohio State football receives pledge from 2026 four-star edge rusher

Ohio State football receives pledge from 2026 four-star edge rusher Coming out of a big recruiting event last weekend, the Ohio State football team has a little momentum. The Buckeyes first received a pledge from 4-star in-state running back Favour Akih, and just on the heels of that news, OSU now has a commitment from 4-star defensive end Khary Wilder. Out of Gardena, California, Wilder is ranked as the No. 242 player and 32nd-ranked edge rusher in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He chose Ohio State over Notre Dame, Alabama, UCLA, and Washington. He is the first defensive lineman in the class to commit to the Buckeyes. With the news, OSU's 2026 class has now grown to 15 total commitments and has jumped up to the No. 2 class in the country according to 247Sports. The Buckeyes still have plenty of room in the class it is putting together, and Larry Johnson would love to add more to the defensive line. Notre Dame football will visit Arkansas with a noon kickoff time on September 27th

Notre Dame football will visit Arkansas with a noon kickoff time on September 27th As the college football season is quickly approaching, Notre Dame football is starting to find out more about its 2025 schedule. On Wednesday, the second road game of the year's start time was announced, a contest at Arkansas, an SEC team that occasionally has solid seasons. However, it hasn't been since 2021 since they had a top-3 conference finish, after going 4-8 last year. The battle between Notre Dame and Arkansas will be played on Sept. 27th., with the kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC, as the Irish will look to take out yet another SEC team after defeating Georgia last year in the College Football Playoff and Texas A&M, who is the home opener opponent this year, in the season opener of 2024. This will be the first matchup between the two teams in their history, and we'll see if Notre Dame can once again go into SEC territory and return home with a victory.

ESPN's future power rankings spotlight Michigan football potential with QB Bryce Underwood

ESPN's future power rankings spotlight Michigan football potential with QB Bryce Underwood Every year, ESPN attempts to look into its college football crystal ball to predict what the top teams in the sport will look like, not only this upcoming season, but in the future beyond that. With its future power rankings, ESPN predicts what teams will dominate the sport years down the road. Though the Wolverines were No. 5 last year, they've fallen -- albeit not too far -- in Adam Rittenberg's latest. In the current 12-team College Football Playoff era, Michigan comes in at No. 13, though Rittenberg notes that the future looks bright in Ann Arbor. 13. Michigan Wolverines Previous future power ranking: 5 Returning quarterback: No (thankfully?). Michigan needed a reset at quarterback after a dreadful passing season, and will turn to No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood or Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene this season. (...) Roster management: Coach Sherrone Moore is starting to flex some recruiting muscle, as Michigan finished with ESPN's No. 7 class for 2025, boosted by Underwood. Michigan has been smart and selective in the portal, and its additions along both lines and at running back with Alabama transfer Justice Haynes will impact the upcoming season. Star power: There are massive expectations around Underwood, and his development the next two seasons will shape Michigan's overall outlook. The Wolverines return one of the nation's best kickers in Dominic Zvada, and defenders like end Derrick Moore and cornerback Zeke Berry should contend for All-Big Ten honors. Coaching staff: Moore has settled in after much of the staff followed predecessor Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers. He will be judged largely on the success of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who had no previous ties to Moore or Michigan. The team retained defensive coordinator Wink Martindale for a second season. There's more at ESPN about the roster, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines. Of course, Michigan is behind several Big Ten teams that outperfomed the Wolverines last season -- Ohio State is No. 2, Oregon is No. 4, and Penn State is No. 6. Will the rankings swing back in Michigan's favor should the Wolverines round back into form? Given the wild swing year-over-year, it sure seems like it.
