Israel-Hamas war: Israeli forces shoot at hundreds of starving Palestinians waiting for food, aid; 25 dead
At least 25 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli forces in Gaza on Tuesday, 24 June, as hundreds were waiting for food and other aid material. The Israeli forces and drones hovering over shot at the 'starving' Palestinians on the Salah al-Din Road south of Wadi Gaza, killing at least 25 and injuring multiple people.
As many as 146 Palestinians have been wounded in the firing. The wounded were taken to Al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where doctors were treating multiple injuries. Among them, 62 were in critical condition and were transferred to other hospitals in central Gaza, Al-Awda Hospital said.
Some eyewitnesses to the shooting at the Gaza aid centre said that the drones were flying over the area where hundreds were waiting for food and other aid. Israeli forces opened fire as people were advancing eastward to be close to the approaching trucks.

Hossam Abu Shahada, another eyewitness, described a 'chaotic and bloody' scene as people were attempting to escape.
The firing comes as Israel agreed to a ceasefire with Iran after days of escalating tensions in the Middle East, which also saw the United States striking nuclear facilities in Tehran. He has been repeatedly exerting pressure on Iran, even mentioning the possibility of ouster of Tehran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranians, however, are not new to the United States (US) enforcing a regime change in their country. In 1953, the US helped stage a coup to overthrow Iran's democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh. Why? Mossadegh wanted to nationalise the country's oil fields, which would hit the US and Great Britain, which were dependent on oil from the Middle East. The move gained popularity in Iran and was seen as victory for the then-USSR. The coup was meant to support Iran's monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to rule as Shah of Iran, and appoint a new prime minister – General Fazlollah Zahedi. The independent National Security Archive research institute had published the document. The the declassification marked the CIA's first formal acknowledgment of its involvement. The documents were declassified in 2011 and given to George Washington University research group under the Freedom of Information Act. WHAT THE DOCUMENTS SHOWED According to a CNN report, the documents showed that the CIA, along with the British Secret Intelligence Service, organised large protests against Mossadegh in 1953, which the Army eventually joined. To offer some stability to Zahedi, the CIA made $5,000,000 available within two days of him taking power. The Shah was an ally of the US. However, unhappy with the interference, the anti-American sentiment kept growing in the country. In the late 1970s, millions of Iranians took to the streets against his regime, which they viewed as corrupt and illegitimate. The Shah was toppled in the 1979 Islamic revolution, which ended the country's western-backed monarchy and ushered in the start of the Islamic Republic and clerical rule. Thus began the rule of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a Shia cleric, as the Supreme Leader, the highest authority in the new system based on Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist). After Khomeini's death, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei became the Supreme Leader of Iran on June 4, 1989. 2025: US SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL Israel wants the US to join the conflict and use its unique military edge and weaponry, such as the GBU-57 bunker-busting bomb, to destroy the Iranian nuclear complex at Fordow, which is buried deep underground. The general opinion is that Israel can delay the programme, but only the US can destroy it. The US has bolstered its military presence in the Middle East, deploying over 31 refueling aircraft to Europe and redirecting the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier to the region. The move is to enhance air power and ensure protection of American assets amid the intensifying conflict. Trump has warned Tehran's residents to ' evacuate", signaling a readiness for more direct involvement if necessary. On Monday evening, the president wrote on Truth Social that 'IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON". He has also clearly said that 'Iran cannot win this war". What did the US, Israel and Iran gain at the end of the 12-day conflict? Has Iran's nuclear programme been destroyed? In the past 48 hours, President Donald Trump ordered US warplanes to drop massive bombs on three nuclear sites in Iran and Tehran retaliated by attacking one of the largest US air bases in the Middle East. Trump then announced that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was 'in effect". Does this mean the war has ended? Who won the war? Who said what? All questions answered: The conflict began on June 13 when Israel launched a massive airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, codenamed 'Operation Rising Lion'. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) initiated a large-scale drone and missile campaign called 'Operation True Promise 3', targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres. Tensions escalated further after the US conducted precision airstrikes early Sunday morning on three key Iranian nuclear facilities under 'Operation Midnight Hammer'. Iran retaliated by launching multiple missiles at US military installations in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar — the largest US military base in the region. 'WHAT THE F**K': TRUMP'S GAINS On Tuesday, Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a 'complete and total ceasefire", in what would bring about an end to the conflict just hours after Tehran targeted American Air bases in the Middle East. Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani secured Iran's approval for a US-proposed ceasefire in the conflict with Israel, Reuters reported. The conversation followed Trump's communication with Qatar's Emir. In a Truth Social post, Trump said Israel and Iran would likely exchange final blows over the next six hours before the deal would come into place on Tuesday. Trump then wrote that the ceasefire was 'now in effect". 'THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!" Trump said in a Truth Social post. However, three hours later, there were reports of firing. The president then took to his Truth Social platform to warn Israel to end its attacks. 'ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION," Trump posted. 'BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!" In comments to reporters at the White House before departing for the NATO summit at The Hague, Trump expressed disappointment about the continued attacks. 'I'm not happy with them. I'm not happy with Iran, either, but I'm really unhappy with Israel going out this morning. We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the f—- they're doing." What did the US gain? 'GOALS ACHIEVED': ISRAEL'S GAINS Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had agreed to a bilateral ceasefire with Iran in coordination with Trump. 'Israel will however respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire," Netanyahu said. Hours after Trump's announcement, Iran launched waves of missiles, which Israel's ambulance service said killed at least four people. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz called the missiles a violation of the ceasefire and instructed Israel's military to resume 'the intense operations to attack Tehran and to destroy targets of the regime and terror infrastructure". Iran denied violating the ceasefire and said that Israel had engaged in multiple strikes on Tehran before the ceasefire went into effect. Between Trump's post and the start of the ceasefire, Israel launched a blitz of airstrikes targeting sites across Iran before dawn and Iran replied with an onslaught of missiles that killed at least four people in Israel early Tuesday morning. Israel said it had intercepted the midmorning barrage of missiles that came hours into the truce. 'Tehran will tremble" Israel's Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich wrote on X after the missiles were launched.
