Alba recognises top-performing contracting companies
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world's largest smelter on one site, recognised 12 exceptional contracting companies based in Bahrain for their top performance in Safety and Well-being throughout 2024, in an awarding ceremony that was held on 27 February 2025 at the Oasis Hall.
Alba's Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali awarded the senior representatives from each contracting company at the ceremony, which was attended by the Ministry of Labour's Director of Inspection & Occupational Safety, Mustafa Al Shaikh, as well as several top Alba officials.
The selection process was based on Alba's rigorous point system, which comprehensively evaluate the companies across three key areas -- Supply of workforce, Supply of service and Well-being conditions outside Alba, such as workers' accommodation, following ongoing inspections and rigorous audits.
This initiative aligns with Alba's Sustainable and Responsible Sourcing Policy, which ensures that environmental, social and economic impacts are responsibly managed across the Company's supply Chain.

Qatar Enforces Summer Ban on Motorcycle Deliveries to Safeguard Riders
Arabian Post Staff -Dubai Delivery riders across Qatar are now prohibited from using motorcycles during peak summer hours, as authorities enforce a nationwide regulation aimed at protecting workers from extreme heat exposure. The rule, effective from 1 June to 15 September, mandates that all deliveries between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM be conducted using air-conditioned vehicles. This measure, initially introduced by the local tech startup Snoonu in 2021 under its 'No Riders Under the Sun' campaign, became law in 2022 following endorsement by the Ministry of Labour. The regulation aligns with broader labour reforms that restrict outdoor work during the hottest hours of the day to mitigate heat-related health risks. ADVERTISEMENT Snoonu's initiative has been instrumental in setting industry standards for worker welfare. The company's CEO, Hamad Mubarak Alhajri, drew from personal experience working in extreme heat conditions offshore to advocate for better protections for delivery personnel. 'Humanity comes before business,' Alhajri stated, emphasizing the company's commitment to employee safety over operational efficiency. The campaign has not only influenced legislation but also garnered recognition, earning Snoonu the 'Best CSR Initiative in the Tech Sector' award at the 2024 Qatar CSR Awards Ceremony. The company's efforts include establishing cooling stations across Doha, providing drivers with air-conditioned rest areas equipped with hydration facilities and comfortable seating. Other delivery services in Qatar, such as Talabat, have also adopted similar measures, transitioning to car-only deliveries during the specified hours. These collective actions underscore a growing industry-wide commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of delivery workers amid rising temperatures.

No contracts with firms not meeting Omanisation rates: Tender Board
Muscat: The General Secretariat of the Tender Board has issued Circular No. (2025/2), directing all ministries and government units subject to the Tender Law to refrain entirely from contracting with private sector companies that fail to meet government-approved Omanisation rates. As per the circular, government entities are required to take the following measures: A mandatory clause related to Omanisation compliance and the employment of the national workforce must be incorporated into all tender documents prior to issuance, following the official template provided. Before awarding any contract, entities must verify that the bidding companies meet the Omanisation requirements through the electronic tendering system (Isnad), which is directly linked to the Ministry of Labour's database. For international companies and institutions not registered in the Sultanate of Oman but participating in international tenders, compliance with Omanisation obligations will be monitored post-award and during contract execution, in alignment with the local content plan. The circular underscores the government's commitment to enhancing employment opportunities for Omani nationals and ensuring that public procurement supports the country's strategic workforce 2022 © All right reserved for Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising (OEPPA) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
