Grand Ole Opry announces date, performers for international event at Royal Albert Hall

Yahoo21-05-2025

The Grand Ole Opry has finally announced the date and lineup for what will be potentially their most impactful of many 100th anniversary events.
Opry members Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Darius Rucker and Marty Stuart will headline its first-ever live international broadcast from London's iconic Royal Albert Hall on Sept. 26, 2025.
Tickets to the show will go on sale on 4 a.m. CDT May 23 on royalalberthall.com.
'This milestone year for the Grand Ole Opry has arrived at the perfect time as country music enjoys an unprecedented rise in global popularity, especially in the United Kingdom. Our first-ever broadcast outside of the United States will celebrate the influential music that has shaped this genre and pay tribute to the unique Opry show format that has entertained music lovers for 100 years," said Colin Reed, executive chairman of Grand Ole Opry parent company Ryman Hospitality Properties.
"With the help of some of our most treasured Opry members and some very special guests, we hope to give fans a taste of what goes on every week back in Nashville and inspire them to come visit the epicenter of country music."
Grand Ole Opry member Darius Rucker said, 'Being a member of the Grand Ole Opry is a great honor; it's always felt like the Opry was my home away from home. To have the opportunity to bring such a big part of my musical roots to Royal Albert Hall is a full-circle moment for me while I work on a project with so many talented songwriters and producers based in London. I can't think of a better way to honor the Opry's global impact on country music as we share its magic with a new generation of fans.'
"I've been to Europe several times, but I feel like in the last year or two, country music has connected there in a really impactful way. The growth of my music over there blew my mind," noted Opry member Carly Pearce in a 2025 Tennessean feature.
Country music has doubled its streaming market share in the United Kingdom year-over-year from 2023 to 2024, where, over the past decade, interest in Opry members, including Dierks Bentley, Combs, Vince Gill, Ashley McBryde, Pearce, Carrie Underwood and Lainey Wilson, has expanded.
United Kingdom-specific flourishes will be added to the Opry's traditional presentation at Royal Albert Hall.
BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay and WSM Radio host Kelly Sutton will be co-hosts for 'Grand Ole Opry: Live in London.' The pair will honour the show's radio roots by creating a lively atmosphere at the Royal Albert Hall and over the airwaves for listeners worldwide. Sutton, the first woman to hold a regular Opry host role, is also the host of Absolute Radio Country's The Nashville Show.
This show will also feature a lineup of notable UK guest artists, which will be announced later this year. The all-star cast will showcase contemporary and classic country music hits in a format similar to the Opry's regular shows in Nashville, where artists appearing on the show will each perform two to four songs.
Fans unable to experience the show in person can listen to a live broadcast on WSM Radio and Opry.com. UK-based fans can also hear a full broadcast replay on BBC Radio 2 at a later date.
Leading up to the show, fans in the United Kingdom can catch up on the latest Grand Ole Opry performances as Opry Live begins airing on Sky Arts starting May 30. The show will air weekly for 26 weeks, allowing viewers to experience the program before the Opry's debut at Royal Albert Hall.
Dan Rogers, senior vice president and executive producer of the Grand Ole Opry, added, 'The magical thing about the Opry is how many lives it's touched over the past 100 years. No matter where you live, when you listen to country music, all roads eventually lead to the Grand Ole Opry and its members both past and present. This show, like the others we are fortunate to program during this special year, will be a celebration of all that has come before it, a moment to embrace something that's never happened before and preview of what lies ahead.'
The Grand Ole Opry's 100th birthday year will feature an impressive series of events throughout 2025 and 2026.
"Our 2025 plans represent a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make the Opry more accessible than ever before," says Opry owners Ryman Entertainment Properties' CEO Patrick Moore. "For decades, people will look back on this year as the one they first discovered or deepened their connection with the show that made country music famous. We've packed our calendar with moments so everyone, from casual fans to super fans, can enjoy the magic of the Grand Ole Opry from wherever they are in the world."
An official Abrams Books-published "100 Years of Grand Ole Opry" book has been recently released and other limited-edition "Opry 100" merchandise will be released throughout the year. It is part of a series of events, limited-edition releases, special performances, exhibits, book publications and merchandise celebrating the Opry's milestone.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have their very own 'Mary Poppins-like' figure - and it's their grandma Carole

There are plenty of parents out there who have no doubt wished for a Mary Poppins of their own to come and get the house in order when things feel overwhelming - and for the Princess of Wales, she had this in the form of her own mother. A royal source has claimed that Carole Middleton became something of a 'real Mary Poppins-like figure' to her three eldest grandchildren, stepping up and becoming a vital helper to Prince William and Kate Middleton as Kate faced her cancer treatment in 2024. The source close to the Wales' spoke to The Independent in the United Kingdom about the irreplaceable role Kate's mom played in her grandchildren's lives, claiming "Carole has been the driving force keeping the family together with minimum fuss and maximum modesty". They explained that Carole, who has always been thought of as Kate's rock and who has helped the Prince and Princess of Wales have an ordinary life, supported her grandchildren and was always on hand to keep their schedules as normal as possible, always on hand to ferry them around their various extracurricular activities. "She's ferried and fetched George, Louis and Charlotte, taken them to school sports matches and given them endless support. She's been a real Mary Poppins-like figure," the source continued. It's also been claimed that the Princess of Wales's mother embodied the 'three R's' when it comes to her family. "She's come to the rescue, provided reassurance, and has been a rock to Catherine and William as they come to terms with the news," the source said. Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen by Robert Jobson, $12.06 (was $29.95) from Amazon Through the author's extensive connections within the royal household, this dynamic biography tells the full story of how Catherine, the Princess of Wales, became the woman she is Deal Carole went into "Mary Poppins" mode for the family after the Princess of Wales confirmed she was undergoing cancer treatment following her abdominal surgery at the start of 2024. In a poignant video released on social media at the time, Catherine revealed, "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present." She added in the video, "My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment." Carole going above and beyond for her family is nothing new. Royal Journalist, Katie Nicholl, has previously claimed on the True Royalty documentary Kate Middleton: Heir We Go Again, "One of the things that allows William and Kate to be so ordinary is the presence of the Middletons in their lives." "Carole is a regular through those golden gates at Kensington Palace. She whizzes through in her Land Rover. There is no security because everybody knows her. She turns up to help with bedtime and bath time," said the royal expert. "She is absolutely indispensable." Of course, the family have been living at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor since 2022, which means that the young royal family are closer than ever to their grandmother who is located in the same county and just a 45-minute drive from her grandchildren.

The Beatles Set A Record 60 Years Ago, And It's Been Matched Once More

Morgan Wallen claims the top three spots on the Hot 100, matching a feat first managed by The ... More Beatles back in 1964. Drake, Taylor Swift, and others have also done so. UNITED KINGDOM - CIRCA 1964: Rock and roll band "The Beatles" pose for a portrait on the roof of the Palace Court Hotel in Bournemouth during their six night residency at the Gaumont Theatre, August 1963. (L-R) George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney. (Photo by Michael) The Beatles don't maintain the same kind of chart supremacy that welcomed the group when it arrived in America more than half a century ago. While the band does regularly return to Billboard's rankings, it's typically not with the same vigor, and occasionally only with one or two titles at most. The rock legends still see their name pop up in articles from time to time, as records they set and feats they managed back in the 1960s continue to stand as some of the most impressive of all time. Even though a number of those achievements have since been matched — or even bested — the fact that The Beatles are still mentioned alongside some of today's most powerful figures is a testament to the group's legacy. A record The Beatles set 60 years ago has now been replicated once more — this time by a musician focused on a genre that has never succeeded in this way before. Morgan Wallen dominates the Hot 100 this week with several tracks taken from his new album I'm the Problem, as the singer-songwriter claims the highest three spaces on the chart at the moment. He and Tate McRae debut their collaboration 'What I Want' at No. 1. That's followed by 'Just in Case,' the previous single from Wallen's full-length, which soars to a new peak of No. 2. At the same time, the focus track 'I'm the Problem' lifts from No. 6 to No. 3, after once peaking in the runner-up spot. Wallen is now just the sixth musician to occupy the highest three slots on the Hot 100 at one time. Many of the artists who have done so achieved the feat only in the past half-decade or so — and Wallen is the first country act to join this very exclusive club. One name does stick out, however, from the bunch. The Beatles accomplished this showing for the first time in 1964. The band filled at least the top three spots on the Hot 100 for five separate chart weeks that year. It would be more than half a century before another musical act would manage such a showing. Ariana Grande completed the trifecta in 2019 for just a single frame when her album Positions arrived, becoming the first star since The Beatles to do so. Both Taylor Swift and Drake have managed the feat on three occasions, with separate albums. Kendrick Lamar also became a member of this exclusive grouping just last year — and he managed to do so more than once.
