Bengaluru cops nab Nigerian woman trying to peddle 5.3kg MDMA worth Rs 10.5 crore
Bengaluru: In one of the biggest drug busts in recent times, a 25-year-old Nigerian was arrested by Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths when she was trying to sell MDMA crystals weighing over 5.3kg, and valued at around Rs 10.5 crore, near Rajanukunte. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The accused has been identified as Akinwunmi Princess Ifeoluwa, alias Princess, a resident of Uttam Nagar in Nawada, New Delhi. CCB's anti-narcotics wing (ANW) police inspector Rakshith AK got a tip-off around noon on June 10 about a foreign national trying to sell drugs in Tarahunase village, 6km from Rajanukunte. Rakshith alerted his seniors, including assistant commissioner of police Mahananda HK, who formed a special team to nab the peddler. When cops rushed to Tarahunase village, they found a woman with a bag seemingly waiting for someone. After confirming she was the peddler flagged by the informant, police detained her around 4pm. When police asked her to show her bag, she didn't cooperate initially. Eventually, she confessed she had come to New Delhi in Oct 2021 using a student visa. She claimed she wanted to get admission at a private deemed-to-be university, but when she didn't get a proper response from the college, she didn't enrol and started working as a hairdresser and pedicurist in the national capital. As she was unable to earn enough to lead a lavish life, she went into the drug peddling business. She allegedly met another Nigerian woman named Asa, who instructed her to take drugs to Bengaluru by bus and hand them over to someone. Accordingly, Princess packed the MDMA crystal in packets and reached Bengaluru on June 10. While she was waiting for Asa's message about the man to whom she was supposed to hand over the drugs, she was caught by cops. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police found 5,325 grams of MDMA crystals and an iPhone on her. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946, for overstaying. Further investigation is on to nab Asa and the others involved in the matter.

Kaapa accused, 3 others in custody
T'puram: In a joint search by Pothencode and Nedumangad police for a Kaapa case accused, four people were taken into custody and an airgun and some fake currency notes were seized from them on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police reached Kanyakumari based on a tip-off about Kaapa case accused Ananthan's hiding place. Besides Ananthan, police took into custody Ram Vivek, Abhinlal and Rishin from Vivek's house. The three men were taken into custody believing that the seized gun was original and the currency notes worth Rs 4 lakh were counterfeit. On examination, the weapon was found to be an airgun, which doesn't require a licence for operation. The currency notes had statements on them indicating they were restricted for film shooting purposes. However, police didn't release three men as they were found to be accused in two theft cases registered at Venjaramoodu police station. The two bikes, which were stolen from Venjaramoodu natives, were also seized from them. They also burgled a shop there. Ananthan was charged under section 3 of Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act 2007 after his continuous involvement in several criminal cases. He was also involved in several drug cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. "The accused are notorious thieves and their involvement in other theft cases is being examined," said police.

Proposed protest over 12 demands in Erode withdrawn following Minister's promise
The proposed protest by members of various social welfare organisations over 12 key demands was withdrawn after Minister for Housing, Prohibition, and Excise S. Muthusamy promised action in Perundurai on Tuesday. Led by R.S. Mugilan, coordinator of the Tamil Nadu Environment Protection Movement, the members had planned a continuous sit-in at the Perundurai Taluk Office from Tuesday, ahead of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's visit on Wednesday. They alleged that despite submitting thousands of petitions with evidence of public property misappropriation worth crores in Perundurai Taluk, no action was taken. Their demands included action against former DMK Chennimalai Union Treasurer and officials from the Revenue Department, Sub-Registrar's office, and banks for alleged land fraud in Gandhi Nagar, Chennimalai, and against those involved in forging documents related to land allotted for the resettlement of 250 Sri Lankan Tamils in Attavanai Pidariyur. They sought withdrawal of a false case against farmers and environmentalists protesting SIPCOT pollution, and disciplinary action against Geology and Mining and Revenue officials for ignoring hundreds of mining-related complaints over five years. Protesters also demanded the arrest of AIADMK Union Secretary for alleged illegal mining using explosives on government land in Ekkattampalayam and Sillankattuvalasu, and criminal proceedings against four others involved in illegal quarrying. They called for action against the BDO, Police Inspector, and RTO for allowing heavy mineral transport that damaged roads, violating a Supreme Court ruling, and cancellation of illegal mining permits issued without mandatory public hearings near residential areas. The protesters had vowed to stage a sit-in until action was taken, but withdrew after Tuesday's meeting with the Minister and his assurance of follow-up.
