Murali Nayak mortal remains reaches his native village
Penukonda: The mortal remains of Agniveer Murali Nayak, who was martyred in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir, reached his native village Kallithanda via Gummayyagaripalli Cross in Gorantla mandal, Penukonda constituency, on Saturday.
After arriving at Bengaluru airport from Jammu & Kashmir, his body was received with honors. Penukonda MLA and BC Welfare Minister S Savitha paid floral tributes at the airport. From there, a massive convoy of around 300 vehicles accompanied the military procession to Gorantla.
Later, from Gummayyagaripalli Cross to Kallithanda village, Minister Savitha joined government officials, local representatives, and thousands of citizens in a solemn procession.
Emotional chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Murali Nayak Amar Rahe' echoed throughout the journey as people gathered to pay their final respects.
On the same day, district Collector TS Chetan visited the house of the martyred soldier in Kallithanda and laid a floral wreath before Murali Nayak's portrait and extended heartfelt condolences to his grieving parents, Sriram Nayak and Jyothi Bai.

Three new Ministers sworn in at Raj Bhavan in the presence of CM Reddy
Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) Telangana Governor Vishnu Dev Varma administered the oath of office to the newly appointed ministers—Adluri Laxman Kumar, Vakiti Srihari, and Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy—at a solemn swearing-in ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan on Sunday. The event was attended by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Legislative Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, State Ministers, several MPs, MLCs, MLAs, government advisors, corporation chairpersons, and senior officials. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasised the government's commitment to social justice and inclusiveness by inducting leaders from marginalised communities. Gaddam Vivek, Adluri Laxman, and Vakiti Srihari represent the SC Mala, SC Madiga, and BC Mudiraj communities, respectively. With the inclusion of Vivek and Laxman, the number of Dalit ministers in the cabinet has now reached four. Additionally, out of the seven BC MLAs elected from the Congress party, three have now been given cabinet posts, including Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, and Vakiti Srihari. Ramachandru Nayak, a first-time MLA from Dornakal, have appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Representing the ST Lambada community, Nayak's appointment reflects the government's focus on equitable representation. Vakiti Srihari, currently an MLA from the Maktal constituency in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, began his political career with the Congress party and held various grassroots leadership positions. He served as Maktal village sarpanch from 2001 to 2006 and ZPTC from 2014 to 2018. He later rose through the ranks to become the district president of the Congress. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he won from Maktal with a majority of 17,525 votes, securing a cabinet berth under the BC quota. Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy, son of senior Congress leader G. Venkataswamy, studied at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, and earned his medical degree from Osmania Medical College. He was elected as an MP from Peddapalli in 2009 and played a prominent role in the Telangana statehood movement, actively raising the issue in Parliament. Vivek's political journey saw him move between Congress, BRS, and BJP before returning to the Congress and winning from Chennur in 2023. His son Gaddam Vamsi is currently the Congress MP from Peddapalli. Adluri Laxman Kumar, currently representing the Dharmapuri constituency, has been associated with the Congress since his student days. He served in various capacities in NSUI and Youth Congress, including as General Secretary at the state level. Though he faced several electoral defeats, including in 1999, 2009, 2010, 2014, and 2018, he remained active in public life and party organisation. In 2023, he won from Dharmapuri with a majority of 22,039 votes over former minister Koppula Eshwar and was later appointed as the Government Whip. Justice Janarthanam's moments of glory
Justice M.S. Janarthanam had, at least, experienced a few moments of glory in the last 20-odd years. After the Supreme Court, in July 2010, provided one year to Tamil Nadu to come out with justification along with quantifiable data for the continuance of the 69% reservation for Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC) and Scheduled Castes (SCs)/Scheduled Tribes (STs), Justice Janarthanam, as the head of the State BC Commission, had authored a report in support of the quota scheme, as provided in the Tamil Nadu Act 45 of 1994. Exactly a year later, the then AIADMK regime, at a Cabinet meeting, adopted the findings of the report and decided that 'there cannot at all be any doubt regards the fixity of reservation of 50 per cent to Backward Classes, 18 per cent to Scheduled Castes and one per cent to Scheduled Tribes.' On the matter of 'creamy layer' among the BC and MBCs, his take was that though the 1994 law had been in existence for well over 17 years, the Lakshman Rekha line had not been crossed, warranting the application of 'creamy layer' exclusion.' This opinion was also accepted by the government. It continues to be in force. Nearly 20 years ago, when the demand was made for creating special reservation for Arunthathiyars within quota of reservation for SCs, the government had turned to Justice Janarthanam to consider it. In November 2008, he, as the head of a committee, submitted a report to the then DMK government that the representation of the Arunthathiyars in Groups A, B and C services under the State 'has been found grotesquely inadequate.' Consequently, a three percent quota came into force. for the Aruthathiyars. This has withstood the test of judicial scrutiny, says G. Santhanam, who served as Secretary of the BC, MBC and Minorities Welfare Department about 15 years ago. In 2012, he gave an opinion to the government for providing a 10.5% quota to Vanniyars within the 20%.. Though this was acted upon by the previous AIADMK regime nine years later, the Supreme Court, in April 2022, quashed the move.

The new service will not only connect Jammu to Kashmir via a rail link but also Kashmir to the rest of India for the first time. While road and air connectivity already existed, the rail link is significant due to the region's challenging geography and tough terrain. The rail route, which is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), will be open for commercial services starting Saturday. Katra, Jammu: With chants of 'Jai Shera Wali Da' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express connecting Jammu to Kashmir Friday. The new railway line is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the Jammu region and Srinagar. The fare for the Katra-Srinagar route is Rs 715 for chair car and Rs 1,350 for executive class. 'This is not just a new railway service but also symbolic of how far the region's railway network has progressed over the last 11 years,' said Railway spokesperson Dilip Kumar. 'We are witnessing history in the making. This railway line is a marvel, and advanced technology has been used to ensure all-weather connectivity,' he added. The inauguration comes weeks after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Since then, tourism in Kashmir has seen a massive decline. The rail link is being seen as a step towards restoring normalcy and inviting tourists to revisit the Valley. 'Earlier, there would be no space to walk at Dal Lake because of the massive tourist footfall. Now, we hardly see a few. Hope this railway line will restore normalcy,' said a shawl seller in Srinagar. By road, the journey used to take around 6-7 hours. For the first time, two Vande Bharat trains will run consecutively—one from Katra and the other from Srinagar—both flagged off by the prime minister. The prime minister also inaugurated two major engineering landmarks. One is the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, standing 359 metres above the riverbed, 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower. It spans 1,315 metres and is part of the USBRL. It is engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. Located about 80 km from Jammu, it spans the Anji River and has been constructed by Hindustan Construction Company. The USBRL will cross a stretch of 271 km that includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. It has been built at a cost of Rs 43,780 crore. Before the final launch, several trial runs were conducted. In the last run, army and security personnel boarded the train as it passed over the Chenab Bridge to assess wind resistance and safety protocols. According to officials, the bridge is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 260 km/h.
