Grizzlies vs Pistons final score, highlights: Memphis earns critical win without Ja Morant
Nothing was easy for the Grizzlies on Saturday night in Detroit, but they eked out a critical win over the Pistons without star guard Ja Morant.
Morant was announced as a starter for the game but then was ruled out just before tipoff because of an illness. The game was close throughout, but the Grizzlies got enough production from across their roster to earn a 109-103 win.

Scotty Pippen Jr. started in Morant's place and was effective, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds. Center Zach Edey was dominant on the interior, breaking a Grizzlies rookie record with a career-high 21 rebounds. Desmond Bane carried the Grizzlies down the stretch, finishing with 38 points and coming up with big shot after big shot in the final minutes.
It was an ugly game, and neither team got into much of an offensive rhythm. Detroit's All-Star guard Cade Cunningham returned after missing six games with a calf injury, and he scored 25 points. But it wasn't enough, and the Grizzlies earned a key win.
Memphis (46-32) is fighting to stay out of the Western Conference Play-In. The Grizzlies are back in action Tuesday on the road in Charlotte.
