Mock drills in Delhi today: Complete list of areas and what you need to do
Under 'Operation Abhyaas', 60 air raid sirens will blare across Delhi and other locations in India at around 4 pm on Wednesday. This is a mock drill that will mobilise the police officers, thousands of civil volunteers, rescue teams, and bureaucrats. The exercise is aimed at training them on how to act in hostile situations like an attack or war.
The drill will simulate different types of emergencies—like air attacks, city fires, moving injured people, and setting up temporary hospitals—to check how ready Delhi is for war-like situations and how well civilians can handle them.
As part of this exercise, coordinated activities will take place at more than 55 spots across Delhi, with five locations in each of the city's 11 districts.

Meanwhile, multiple teams in each district of Delhi have been told to find and prepare safe buildings and non-military zones for practice evacuations.
According to reports, in every district, at least one hospital, government office, market, and residential area has been chosen for the drill, and the people there will be informed a few hours before it starts.
Why is the government doing mock drills?
These mock drills, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), are part of a larger effort to prepare the country for defence and to improve civil defence readiness in 244 towns and districts across India.
Similar mocks drills will also take place in several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and border states like Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Conduct a mini-blackout drill with your family
Practice activities in the dark to build preparedness
- Help neighbours, especially those with children or elderly members.
- Report anything unusual to officials or drill supervisors.

Mock drills at six locations in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka
'Operation Abhyaas' a mock drill to protect citizens during times of emergencies was carried out at six different locations in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on May 12. It began with a mock drill on evacuation of people during building collapse at Grasim Industries at Binaga, which was jointly conducted by teams of NDRF, fire brigade, Grasim company, revenue and police departments. This was followed by a mock drill on taking precautionary measures during fire mishap inside the nuclear power plant at Kaiga. Next was an evacuation drill at Aratuga village pertaining to radiation contamination, followed by mock drill on a fire mishap at the civil colony in Amadahalli near the naval base. Next was a mock drill at Rabindranath Tagore beach in Karwar simulating an air strike and evacuation of people. A mock drill on bomb blast and subsequent evacuation was conducted at Karwar railway station. The last mock drill was a complete blackout at two locations — in Karwar municipal limits and in Kaiga township — was carried out at night. During the mock drill, citizens were asked to voluntarily switch off lights in their homes and stay at home. And those driving vehicles were advised to abandon their vehicles and take shelter in the nearest building. Briefing mediapersons, Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmipriya said that, with the coordination of various government departments, private parties and naval staff, the mock drills at six different locations were successfully conducted. 'We first received a call at the district control room at 4 p.m. about the collapse of a building at Grasim industries. It took 38 minutes for the fire brigade, police and other staff to complete the mock drill, including providing medical aid. The fire accident mock drill at Kaiga nuclear power plant, following a call at 4.15 p.m., took 40 minutes to complete,' she said. The mock drill on evacuation of village residents of Aratuga village to BCM hostel at Siddaragrama following radiation contamination due to a fire at Kaiga took around 75 minutes. The mock drills at Amadahalli, near the naval base, which was carried out with assistance of naval staff, took 43 minutes. The mock drill on bomb blast at railway station was carried out in around 43 minutes. The Deputy Commissioner said that officials had installed 13 sirens for the mock drill on complete blackout. She said for the mock drills, they had established both district and police control rooms, and had also set up hotlines to address the possibility of communication disruption. This apart, a shadow control room had been set up, which would be used in case of damage to control rooms. The shadow control room was also tested, she said. The mock drill was part of 'Operation Abhyaas', which is being held in the wake of the Indo-Pak conflict to test preparedness of the administrations in handling an emergency and protecting citizens.

Sirens, smoke & strategy: Hyderbad tests civil defence readiness
HYDERABAD: Hours after India carried out airstrikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, air sirens blared across Hyderabad for the first time in over 50 years on Wednesday as part of a large-scale civil defence mock drill. Code-named 'Operation Abhyaas', the exercise was conducted at four residential areas — Nacharam, Mehdipatnam, West Marredpally and Champapet — as per the directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. It aimed to simulate wartime emergency scenarios and strengthen coordination between multiple emergency response agencies. Personnel from the police, fire department, Telangana Disaster Response Force (TDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), traffic police, and TGSPDCL participated in the drill. The drills were conducted at May Flower Apartments (Nacharam), Avalon Apartments (Mehdipatnam), Manbhum Millennium Residence (West Marredpally) and BPS Twin Towers (Champapet). They began at 4 pm with a two-minute air siren, after which khaki-clad personnel sprang into action, urging residents to stay calm and follow instructions. By 4.15 pm, response teams arrived on-site to evacuate residents, including children and senior citizens. Volunteers played the roles of injured civilians, who were transported to temporary medical camps. Critical cases were mock-transferred to nearby hospitals and police ensured emergency vehicles had clear routes via controlled traffic flow. The entire operation was monitored in real time from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). At Manbhum Millennium Residence, T Prasad, president of the resident welfare association, said, 'We were informed a day in advance and rehearsed earlier in the afternoon. Around 80 residents participated. This exercise has significantly raised awareness, which is crucial in today's scenario.' Assistant Commissioner of Police SV Krishna stated that over 100 police personnel were involved. 'The primary goal was to assess our emergency response preparedness and ensure no one was left behind. Our teams executed the operation with diligence,' he said.
