Daily Record15-05-2025

Scotland's countless beaches all have something unique to offer. Whether you are looking for a convenient bay close to amenities or a remote coastal paradise, Scotland's coastline has it all.
To celebrate the good weather we have been having lately, the Daily Record is heading to the seaside for our latest Walk of the Week. Once per week, we shine a light on one beauty spot around Scotland—and this time it is Stonehaven Beach.
Stonehaven Beach is situated by the town of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. Around just over one kilometre in length, it is bordered by the Carron Water and the town's harbour jetty.
The beach is unique in that it features both sandy and pebbly areas. The southern end is generally sandier and is more popular amongst sunbathers.
Stonehaven Beach also includes an electric board that displays up-to-date water quality predictions during the summer. This is very handy if you are planning to take a dip but want to make sure the water is clean beforehand.
The beach is also known for being popular amongst water sports enthusiasts, and has even received a Keep Scotland Beautiful Seaside Award. These awards honour the very best beaches across the country.
Additionally, Stonehaven Beach has received hugely positive feedback from visitors. It has an overall score of 4.6 out of five on Google based on 496 reviews.
One visitor shared: "For any given day, this is the perfect spot. You could go with friends, family, kids, pets, and during day or night.
"The beach has a warmth to itself that's embracing. This harbour town has a lot more to offer if you are taking a day's trip."
Keep reading for a few photographs showcasing Stonehaven Beach's beauty. For more travel inspiration, check out some of our past Walks of the Week below:

Meghan shares heartfelt video of Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland

The family shared a magical trip to Disneyland for Princess Lilbet's celebrations. Meghan Markle has shared a heartfelt video of the Sussex family as they celebrated Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland Florida. The Duchess of Sussex's Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, which has drawn heart-wrenching parallels with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The video shows an adorable clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Princess Elsa, from the Disney film Frozen. Meghan sported a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the post, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. ‌ Meghan stated in the video's caption: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' ‌ The intimate family footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. The royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family snaps over recent days to mark Lili's fourth birthday, which is June 4. In one, she posted a comedic throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself holding her daughter close. ‌ In another post, she described how Lili's relationshi p with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. ‌ Meghan and Harry have previously been keen to keep their kids away from the public eye, and usually don't show the little ones' faces on social media. In this newest post, their children are viewed from the back, emphasising the couples' wishes to protect their children from growing up in the spotlight. ‌ In one picture, Harry is seen on a kids' ride with Lilibet, and although she is facing the camera, her face is covered with a pink love heart emoji. A source close to the couple revealed to People last year that Harry is especially keen to stop Lili and Archie from being thrust into the public eye. The friend explained: "Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats." Scotland's 'special' island with beautiful white sandy beaches you need to visit

The scenic isle is famous for its one-of-a-kind beach airport. Scotland is home to countless picturesque villages and towns that would make for a great staycation destination. However, nothing can compare to its islands. In total, there are around 800 islands in Scotland. The majority of these are uninhabited, but there are also plenty of hidden gems that would make for a one-of-a-kind holiday. ‌ One Scottish island that often flies under the radar is Barra. The southernmost inhabited island of the Outer Hebrides, Barra features a population of around just over 1,000. ‌ Described as a "special place to visit" by VisitScotland, Barra's main claim to fame is its airport. It is believed to be the only destination around the world where scheduled flights use a beach as a runway. The island's jaw-dropping beaches are its top draw. In addition to Traigh Mhor Beach, where visitors often gather to see planes depart, there are also less busy bays for those seeking some peace and quiet. One of the top beaches on Barra is Eoligarry Beach, which is located in a remote spot along the northern coast of the island. Featuring glorious white sand and beautiful aquamarine water, it is a great spot for either a family hike or a peaceful solo trip. Surprisingly, despite its small size, there are quite a few options around Barra when it comes to food. The island features a variety of restaurants and even a hotel with a pub. Cafe Kisimul is one of the most popular food spots on Barra, serving up authentic Punjabi cuisine with a focus on local produce. Its menu includes a variety of curries, including a number of vegan and vegetarian options. ‌ The restaurant has earned a rave reception from visitors to the island. On Google, it has an average rating of 4.7 out of five based on 388 reviews. One Cafe Kisimul customer wrote: "Wonderful experience, the best curry I have had in a long time. Great service and lovely atmosphere. ‌ "I would definitely recommend if you enjoy a curry. Great whisky selection too." Elsewhere, the Fish Box Kitchen is a mobile catering unit specialising in locally caught fish and seafood that is cooked to order. Its food has been described as "amazing" and "incredible" in Google reviews. ‌ Meanwhile, The Castlebay Hotel is situated in Barra's main settlement of Castlebay and benefits from gorgeous views out over the natural harbour. The hotel's restaurant serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while its cosy bar is renowned for its live music. If you are keen to learn more about Barra and its interesting past, then the Barra Heritage Centre is definitely worth a visit. Created in 1995 to protect and promote the culture and history of Barra and neighbouring Vatersay, it is home to amazing artefacts, documents, photographs, and much more. The heritage centre also features a tearoom, where visitors can enjoy a variety of local freshly baked goodies and both hot and cold drinks. There is even hot soup on offer, freshly made with hearty ingredients. ‌ For those interested in a Barra getaway, the island can be reached by either air or sea. Visitors can choose to fly to its unique airport from Glasgow, or catch a ferry from Oban. Further information about Barra and what visitors can get up to around the island can be found on the Isle of Barra website.
