The Boston Red Sox showed they aren't afraid to risk some pushback from fans if they see an opportunity to improve the outlook for their team.
That was plain when they traded franchise slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. In the immediate aftermath of that move, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said that there's a "real chance that at the end of the season we're looking back and we've won more games than we otherwise would've," per ESPN.
And the latest news suggests Breslow could see a similar opportunity by trading away reigning All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran.
"As the (San Diego) Padres face a daunting schedule and glaring holes at the bottom of their lineup, their list of trade targets again includes Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran," Dennis Lin reported for The Athletic. "Now, an underwhelming Red Sox team might consider Duran expendable."

With Duran garnering interest from other teams, the Red Sox could be looking to sell high after his breakout season. But rather than working with the Padres to move him, Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints suggested the Red Sox return to the negotiating table with the Giants.
"Clearly, the two are comfortable doing business together," Bassett noted. "Duran is a speed threat who can hit for both power and contact. He'd give the Giants a four-headed outfield monster and better their chances of winning this year's World Series. Plus, he obviously has familiarity with the recently traded for Devers."
While the Giants could use an upgrade in the outfield as they look to close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Red Sox seem to have a surplus, with Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreau, Rob Refsnyder and Roman Anthony all competing for at-bats.
And if the Red Sox opt to move Duran to the Giants to clear that logjam, Bassett projected that they could land prospects Carson Whisenhunt, Rayner Arias and Carson Ragsdale in return.
That type of haul could be enough to bring the Red Sox back to the table with the Giants to replenish their farm system after several high-profile promotions, or to land some trade chips that get flipped into another deal for Boston.

Minnesota Timberwolves will make the first selection of the second round of the NBA draft

Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA draft resumes Thursday night with the Minnesota Timberwolves making the first selection of the second round. The draft picks up where it left off at Barclays Center in Brooklyn — though in a much smaller portion of it than was used Wednesday for the first round. The second round begins with the No. 31 pick and this year runs through No. 59 instead of 60, with the New York Knicks having been penalized their selection for tampering by negotiating with Jalen Brunson too soon before eventually signing the guard away from Dallas in 2022. The NBA points to the success of players such as Brunson, who became an All-NBA selection in New York, and three-time MVP Nikola Jokic of Denver when touting the types of difference-makers who could come out of the second round. The Mavericks, who selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick on Wednesday, do not currently have a selection in Round 2. The NBA began a two-night format for the draft last year after doing it one night ended too late. ___ AP NBA: recommended

Yankees Trade Scenario Would Send DJ LeMahieu to Braves for $35 Million All-Star

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees have a need in their infield, specifically at second base. DJ LeMahieu is slashing .240/.313/.327 with just five extra base hits on the year. LeMahieu is no longer an All-Star or Gold Glover like he was in his prime. He still has one year left on his six-year, $90 million deal. However, if the Yankees want to reach their World Series aspirations, LeMahieu may have to be benched or moved. MoreTrading LeMahieu will not be easy with his contract and decline. However, ClutchPoints' Zachary Howell proposed this trade that would swap LeMahieu for an Atlanta Braves All-Star: Yankees receive: Ozzie Albies Braves receive: DJ LeMahieu and Roderick Arias (Yankees' No. 5 prospect) The Braves will not trade Albies or any of their stars if they are still in contention around the July 31 trade deadline. However, even if they are out of contention, they are not going to take on LeMahieu without a reason, and in this case, that reason is Arias. Albies is not having his best year, slashing .224/.298/.326 with just six home runs. However, the three-time All-Star is starting to look more like himself. He has started to swing the bat a little better since being moved down in the batting order, and could benefit from a change of scenery and a hitter-friendly ballpark like Yankee Stadium. Albies has $7 million club options for the next two seasons and is just 28 years old. He could be a key player for the Yankees. Last season, Jazz Chisholm Jr. came over from a struggling team and had a great run with the Yankees. Could Albies do the same?
