Man arrested on suspicion of breaking into Windsor Castle grounds
Thames Valley Police said the man allegedly entered 'restricted grounds' at the royal residence at just after 1pm on Sunday.
The force added that he was 'quickly challenged' by Metropolitan Police officers and did not enter the inner grounds of the castle.
The Metropolitan Police said the man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of trespass on a protected site and possession of Class A drugs.
He was then passed into the custody of Thames Valley Police.
Thames Valley Police said the man has been bailed and an 'investigation is ongoing'.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: 'At just after 1pm on Sunday a man entered restricted grounds at Windsor Castle.
'He was quickly challenged by Met police officers and arrested. He did not enter the inner grounds of Windsor Castle.'
It is a criminal offence to trespass on a protected site under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.

Woman held after boy, 4, found dead in Maidenhead
A 37-year-old woman has been arrested after a four-year-old boy was found dead at a property in Maidenhead. The child was discovered deceased after police attended the address on Dunholme Road in the Berkshire town on Tuesday evening. A crime scene will remain at the scene until June 17 and the arrested woman is in custody. Mortar discovered at scene of fatal Sandhurst property fire
Decommissioned mortar and flammable chemicals have been found at the scene of a fire where a man died. A man in his 80s was airlifted to hospital with what proved to be fatal injuries after the blaze at a property on Oak Avenue in Sandhurst, Berkshire, on Friday. Police and fire crews remained at the scene to carry out investigations and discovered the mortar - which a specialist team has now safely destroyed - during a search of the site on Tuesday. The force, which said it was also working on removing the chemicals, said the death was being investigated as unexplained but was not believed to be suspicious. Det Supt Andrew Penrith, of Thames Valley Police, said: "This was a sad incident and our thoughts are with the family of the man who died." 'Priority is safety' He added: "Yesterday during searches of the property as part of the investigation officers found what was thought to be a decommissioned mortar."The [explosive ordnance disposal team] attended yesterday as a precaution and disposed of the mortar."Additionally some flammable and potentially hazardous chemicals have been located and we are working to remove these safely."Our priority is the safety of the wider public and those attending the scene. We do not believe there is a wider danger to the public, and evacuation of residents is not required."Officers and other agencies are likely to be at the property for some time to make sure the property is safe."There is no ongoing criminal investigation".The coroner has been informed. Tory MP chases down would-be thief
A Tory MP has been praised for getting 'stuck in' after he chased a suspected thief down a London high street and secured his arrest. Gareth Davies, a Conservative shadow minister, witnessed a man taking an item from a vehicle in north-west London on Saturday morning. He followed the man for 15 minutes through the streets of Maida Vale, an affluent area of the capital, in the hope he could be arrested. The suspect did not know he was being watched during the low-speed pursuit, but Mr Davies had called the police to report what he'd seen and tell officers where the man was located. The man tried to board a bus but was apprehended by officers at the bus stop. A Metropolitan Police spokesman told The Telegraph that a 'member of the public' had called the police to report a man had stolen an item from the back of the car. 'Officers quickly attended and a 48-year-old man was arrested near the scene,' the spokesman said. 'He was taken into custody and has since been bailed while further inquiries are carried out.' The victim's belonging was later returned. It comes after a series of vigilante law enforcement stunts in London, including from Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary. Mr Jenrick filmed a video chasing fare dodgers through a Tube station, asking them why they had not paid for tickets. One would-be fare evader told the Tory MP to 'f--- off', while another claimed he had a knife. Mr Jenrick accused Sir Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, of ' driving a proud city into the ground ', adding: 'Lawbreaking is out of control. He's not acting. So, I did.' Reacting to Mr Davies' pursuit of the suspect, he told The Telegraph: 'Good for Gareth. Sometimes you have to get stuck in and sort things out.' Other campaigners have taken to the Tube to clean off graffiti, after reports that Bakerloo line trains in London had been defaced and not cleaned by Transport for London (TfL) staff. TfL said last month that the uptick in graffiti was caused by the breakdown of an automatic train washer. 'We were only able to clean trains by hand, which takes a significantly longer amount of time,' a spokesman told the BBC.
