Kelsie Whitmore is trying to make history in the Mexican Baseball League
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Two-way player Kelsie Whitmore was invited for a tryout with the Aguila de Veracruz, where she will try to become the first woman to play in the Mexican Baseball League, the club announced Thursday.
The 26-year-old Whitmore is a pitcher and an outfielder who was the first female player in an MLB partnered league while suiting up for the Staten Island FerryHawks in the Atlantic League in 2022.

Aguila de Veracruz did not reveal details about the invitation and just unveiled pictures of their practice with the American player on it.
'Whitmore has playing experience in the Atlantic League and the Pioneer League,' the Mexican club said on social media.
The American player traveled with the team to Nayarit, in the Mexican Pacific Coast, where the team will play a three-game preseason series against the Puebla Pericos.
Veracruz opens the regular season on April 18 when they take on Puebla.
With the FerryHawks, Whitmore became the first woman to play in the Atlantic League.
Last season, Whitmore played with the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League, becoming the first women to play for that league.

The 2025 Indiana Track and Field Hall of Fame class will have a strong Bloomington flavor with the addition of former South pole vaulting brothers Drew and Deakin Volz and North standout thrower and coach Sara (Fields) Hamidovic. Here's a quick look at their careers as provided by the Hall of Fame. As a freshman, Volz was conference, sectional and regional champ and eighth at the state finals with a PR 14-9. As a sophomore, he was conference, sectional (16-4), regional and state runner-up. In the summer, he was the USATF Youth Champion and the Junior Olympic National Champion. Outdoors, he broke the IHSAA state finals record with a vault of 17-6 and was given the Robert S. Hinshaw Mental Attitude Award. He was again the Indiana Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year and Indiana USATF Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year. At Virginia Tech, Deakin placed third at the NCAA Indoor Championships and became a three-time ACC champion and six-time All-American. During his freshman year, he qualified for the U20 World Championships with a mark of 18-6½ which would rank him third on the all-time USA list and 11th on the world list. His 18-9 vault in 2020 qualified him for the Olympic Trials. Vancouver's Loopy Godinez to face former UFC champion Jessica Andrade in Chicago
Canadian strawweight Loopy Godinez will face former champion Jessica (Bate Estaca) Andrade at UFC 319 in Chicago on Aug. 16. Godinez (13-5-0) is ranked 11th among strawweight (115-pound) contenders while Andrade is ranked fifth among strawweights and ninth among flyweights (125 pounds). Godinez, 31, ended a two-fight losing skid with a win over Brazil's Julia (Psycho) Polastri in March. The Mexican-born, Vancouver-based fighter is 8-5-0 in the UFC. Andrade (26-14-0) won the strawweight title at UFC 237 in May 2019 when she knocked out American Rose (Thug) Namajunas. But she lost to China's Zhang Weili in her first title defence. The Brazilian was stopped by flyweight champion Valentina (Bullet) Shevchenko at UFC 261 in April 2021. Andrade has lost her last two outings and five of her last seven. She was submitted by Canadian Jasmine Jasudavicius last time out, at UFC 315 in May in Montreal. Andrade is 17-12-0 in the UFC. The main event at Chicago's United Centre sees South African Dricus du Plessis defend his middleweight title against No. 3 Khamzat Chimaev of the United Arab Emirates.
