Under the helm of Hollywood icon Ridley Scott, known for masterpieces like Alien and Gladiator, the 2007 film American Gangster is set to depart Amazon Prime, prompting fans to shower it with accolades. This biographical crime thriller, directed by Scott, delves into the real-life story of notorious drug kingpin Frank Lucas.
The movie is rooted in Lucas's illicit exploits, specifically his cunning strategy of smuggling heroin into the U.S. during the Vietnam War era.
The infamous gangster leveraged American military planes returning from the war to transport his narcotics, a scheme that continued until his eventual capture and imprisonment. Notoriously, Lucas once bragged about concealing heroin within the coffins of deceased servicemen - a shocking tactic that ultimately led to his 70-year prison sentence.
While the film takes creative liberties with certain aspects of Lucas's life, it vividly portrays the harsh realities of mob life in 1970s America. According to a Rotten Tomatoes review: "The pacing starts slow but keeps you hooked. It captures the grime and glamour of the '70s, the mobsters who ran the streets, and the few "untouchable" cops resistant to the corruption running deep in drug enforcement.
"At its core, it's an action-packed drama about two men on opposite sides of the law: one building an empire through crime, the other a determined detective fighting against the odds to take him down", reports Surrey Live.
Echoing this sentiment, another viewer shared: "Similar ground to the tale of the rise and fall of a gangster; however, this is one of the best to do it, and Denzel's performance is very good.

"The music choices, the settings and the story of Lucas caught my fancy. It may not pack the same level of violence and tension as other gangster films, but it's without doubt an impressive movie," another fan added.
Denzel Washington stars as the infamous mobster in the flick, with Russell Crowe playing against him, and audiences are praising Washington's convincing act. His stellar performance earned him plaudits and nominations from the Golden Globe Awards to the BAFTAs, while the film itself snagged nods in several categories.
One review raved: "Best Denzel Washington movie by a country mile. Outstanding performance. Chuck in Russell Crowe at the very top of his game. Finally, a brilliant true story. Mix it all together and bingo, a CLASSIC ! ! ! ! !".
Meanwhile, another viewer remarked: "Outstanding performances by Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe put this film among the top films of this genre."
More than 15 years after its release, the movie still boasts a solid 81% aggregate score on the review site.
Film enthusiasts will be stunned to discover that it is due to depart from Amazon Prime on June 3, leaving those who haven't seen it yet with only a few days remaining.

American Gangster film based on true story that's a 'must watch' if you love the Godfather
The gangster film, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime, has been hailed as very "underrated" and the "best true crime drama out there". Biographical crime film Kill the Irishman is a movie based on the life of the Irish-American gangster Danny Greene that has viewers raving. The movie, which is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime and Apple TV, is an on-screen adaptation of Rick Porrello's book To Kill the Irishman: The War That Crippled the Mafia. The film's official synopsis reads: "Kill the Irishman tells the true story of Danny Greene, a scrappy union representative who rose through the ranks of the Cleveland underworld and became a force to be reckoned with, ultimately engaging in a turf war with the Italian Mafia. Greene's rise to power and his eventual assassination, which is depicted in the film, are the central themes. "The film explores Greene's ambition, his clashes with the Mafia, and the impact of his actions on organised crime in Cleveland and beyond." Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, the star studded cast includes Ray Stevenson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Val Kilmer, Christopher Walken, Linda Cardellini , Tony Darrow and Robert Davi, among others. The film, which is also available to watch on Apple TV, has been applauded by gangster movie fanatics, who have branded it a 'must watch' if you are a fan of The Godfather, the Express reports. One critic stated in an IMDb review: "Great cast, great acting, and an absolute must-see for mafia-philes. "Unlike many bio-dramas, this one moves along at a rocket pace, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats." Another hailed the film as "very underrated". Kill the Irishman received mixed reviews upon its release and was noted for its similarities to Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas (1990). It was awarded a divisive score of 63% from Rotten Tomatoes critics, who state: "Kill the Irishman may not add much in the way of new ingredients to its crowded genre, but the admirable efforts of a solidly assembled cast add extra depth to a familiar story." However, other reviewers were quick to jump to its defence as one insisted it it "the best true crime drama out there" and another agreed they "absolutely love this [film]. Kill the Irishman is not the only gangster film that Amazon viewers are currently raving about as another crime film, that's been described as 'poetic' has recently resurfaced. Starring two forgotten Hollywood legends, the 1990s American gangster film, Miller's Crossing, created by Joel and Ethan Coen, is considered to be "an all time classic" by viewers. The film follows the story of two rival gangs, set during the 1929 Prohibition, as Irish mob boss Leo O'Bannon, portrayed by Albert Finney, sets off a war between the two as he protects his girlfriend's brother, Bernie, who lands himself in trouble with the other group. Unbeknownst to him, his girlfriend is having an affair with his partner-in-crime, Tom Reagan, played by Gabriel Byrne. Despite Tom's attempts to feed Bernie to the wolves, Leo trusts in his decision to protect him. However, while his Italian gangster enemy Johnny Caspar is growing in power in the background, he needs the help from his right-hand man now more than ever, that is, until he finds out he's been sleeping with his girlfriend. The title boasts a near 'perfect' rating as one viewer wrote on Rotten Tomatoes:"All-time classic. This has all the hallmarks of a noir. "The script is very complicated but never convoluted to the point where you can't follow it, which is a testament to the masterful editing. My only real complaint is while the music is good, I wish it was used a bit more, but this really is never dry. Everyone should give this a try once."

Huge TV star is unlikely heir to Paddington Bear fortune and selling £2.8m home
The Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm has become a huge hit with viewers and now two of the stars are looking to sell their properties as they aim to boost their bank balances Two stars from the Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm are looking to boost their bank balances as they list their properties on the market for some eye-watering figures - with one of the lavish houses having a link to a very iconic British institution. Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson 's childhood home, Rowland Bridge House, is on the market for a whopping £1.5 million, while one of his co-stars is looking to sell their £2.8 million Cotswolds country home in a raffle! Located in the historic market town of Tickhill, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, Clarkson's childhood home is a Grade II listed property that boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms, four reception rooms, and a 'large living kitchen'. The Clarkson family moved into this 17th-century detached house back in 1987. Jeremy lived there with his mother Shirley, who famously crafted the world's first 'plush' Paddington Bear, initially without authorisation from the character's creator, Michael Bond. Clarkson's mother hadn't asked for permission to use the bear's likeness, but all worked out for her after Bond bumped into Shirley and her husband Eddie and struck up a friendship with the couple and officially awarded her company the licence. The author recalled to The Sunday Times in 2014: "I got in the lift with Shirley and Eddie. They were terribly nice and pretended it had all been a mistake - and we were friends by the time we got out of the lift. I gave them a licence." Bond's approval helped Shirley set up a fortune for the Clarkson family, with her Paddington venture allowing the income she generated through Paddington Bear to fund her son's private school education which helped launch his career in showbuisnsess. She once told AutoTrader magazine: "I've got a Paddington bear on the dashboard of my car. I looked at it recently and thought if it hadn't been for the success of the toys, Jeremy wouldn't have had all the chances he's had in life." Just a stone's throw away from Hill House School, where Clarkson spent his school years, the property offers waterside views over a large duck pond, This two-storey property, complete with a walled south-facing garden and orangery, is now up for grabs with a guide price of £1,475,000. The 5,000 square-foot home, which is just a two-hour journey from London by public transport, comes fully equipped with a range of Miele appliances, including an Aga cooker, and features a laundry and utilities room. Additional perks include a security system, integrated multimedia system, smart heating, and an outdoor kitchen. The main bedroom boasts an en-suite bathroom with a freestanding roll-top bath, and a dressing room. Other features include a conservatory, and a detached garage block with a workshop, gardener's toilet, and a self-contained office and gym. Nick Talbot from Lister Haigh highlighted the captivating past of Rowland Bridge House: "Rowland Bridge House is full of history and during the 1970s it was the childhood home of motoring journalist and star of Clarkson's Farm, Jeremy Clarkson." Nick then added: "It's also where he famously played with the world's first ever Paddington Bear, after his mother, Shirley Clarkson, started making the soft toys without consent. However, she was later granted licencing rights by Paddington's author, Michael Bond, to manufacture and export the bears throughout the world." Commenting on the features of the home, Nick was enthusiastic: "It's a magnificent family home in the highly sought after, historic and picturesque market town of Tickhill which is very popular due to its excellent range of independent shops, restaurants, and amenities, as well as offering easy access to the A1(M), M18 and M62." He also mentioned the appealing mix of old-world allure and contemporary comforts found in the home: "The property blends period features and charm with an excellent finish, which includes media and sound systems together with remote heating and security systems, which will all appeal to buyers looking for a standout family home." It's noted that the Clarksons sold the greatly-loved house back in 2016, and it's now believed to be owned by a semi-retired estate agent. Rachel Hawkins, who assisted Clarkson in launching his Cotswolds pub The Farmer's Dog, resides nearby the presenter's site and is now raffling off her £2.8 million country home. The hospitality entrepreneur, known for reviving dilapidated pubs, has put her six-bedroom house located in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold up for grabs with tickets starting at just £10. Rachel, along with her long-term partner Will Kennedy, moved into the property in November 2015 after purchasing it for £750,000. The 40-year-old star has decided to relocate with Will and their five dogs, opting for an unconventional method to sell their home. The detached 4,000sq ft property is perfect for hosting, should any of the increasing number of Cotswolds A-listers decide to drop by, boasting a unique bar area. It also features a living area and a kitchen with dining space, flanked by a separate dining room on one side and a stylish family room on the other. The family room comes with bi-fold doors that open onto a stone terrace, complete with a garden room for sunny days. The ground floor also houses a cosy sitting room, study and cellar, as well as visitor-friendly features such as a boot room for wellies and a custom-made dog bed. The two upper floors of the Cotswold stone house accommodate six bedrooms, each with its own en suite. A spacious master suite, several guest rooms and a quirky loft room with two single beds tucked under the eaves of the house make it an ideal home for those who love to host. The plush residence comes fully furnished with chic furniture, and Raffle House also takes care of the stamp duty costs and fees, ensuring the lucky winner can move in without any additional expenses.
