Fruitland man charged with murder, more in Wicomico death investigation
Maryland State Police have charged a Fruitland, Maryland resident with first-degree murder and more in a Wicomico County death investigation.
Here's what we know now.
The accused is identified as Brandt John Roberts, 40, of Fruitland. Following consultation with the Office of the State's Attorney for Wicomico County, Roberts is charged with first- and second-degree murder and other related charges. He is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center awaiting an appearance before a district court commissioner.
The victim is identified as Albert Joseph Vacovsky III, 27, of Fruitland, Maryland. He was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on April 25, officers from the Fruitland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Camden Avenue in Fruitland for a death investigation. Responding officers found Vacovsky dead inside the residence.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Additional assistance is being provided by members of the Fruitland Police Department, Salisbury Police Department and crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

Bomb squad responds to incident involving man with alleged history of making explosives
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – What started as a domestic dispute resulted in the bomb squad being called in and discovering an explosive device. The initial incident happened around 7:40 a.m., Thursday after the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of a fight in the 2000 block of North 21st Street. After arriving at the scene, officers learned the dispute turned into a physical altercation. The man, Dominic Roberts, 26, was then taken into custody. During their investigation, officers discovered Roberts allegedly had a history of making and detonating homemade improvised explosive devices (IUD) in remote desert areas. Officers obtained a search warrant for the home while the GJ Bomb squad was called in to assist. During the search, bomb technicians found a homemade IUD inside the house and safely removed it. Roberts was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and was booked for second-degree assault, harassment, domestic violence, possession, use or removal of explosive devices and failure or refusal to leave premises or property with a weapon. GJPD said it believes this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. 'We remind the community to report suspicious activity or information to law enforcement immediately. Community awareness and timely reporting can make a significant difference in public safety,' the police department said in a news release. The case remains under investigation. On Wednesday, June 11, Maryland State Police (MSP) stated in a news release that Darrian Randle, 31, had been arrested and "charged with first and second-degree murder, first degree of child abuse resulting in death of a minor under thirteen, and other related criminal charges," in connection with the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter, Nola Dinkins. Randle, of Newark, Delaware, previously alleged that on the evening of Tuesday, June 10, "she had pulled over after Nola became upset and was attempting to comfort her when an unknown white male armed with a handgun approached the vehicle and took Nola. The suspect then fled in a dark-colored SUV driven by a white female," the New Castle County Police (NCCPD) said in a news release shared on Facebook on Wednesday. "An Amber Alert was issued for 3-year-old Nola, prompting an overnight investigation by the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit and the FBI. Detectives later determined Darrian's account was false," the news release continued. Police said the Amber Alert was canceled earlier on Wednesday, adding that the case, which was turned over to the MSP, was now being investigated as a homicide. The NCCPD confirmed Randle has also been charged with one count of felony falsely reporting. The MSP said in Wednesday's release that a second person, Cedrick Antoine Britten, 44, of North East, Maryland, has also been arrested. He has been "charged with accessory to first and second-degree murder after the fact, failure to report child death, and other related criminal charges," per the Facebook post. Britten is Randle's boyfriend, according to ABC-affiliate station WPVI, citing police. The MSP stated human remains were found on Wednesday afternoon, but the body, consistent with that of a young child, was yet to be identified. "The New Castle County Division of Police requested Maryland State Police to respond to Randle's last known address in North East where they made contact with Britten. Further investigation led to potential criminal activity which subsequently led to the recovery of human remains in a vacant lot in North East, Maryland," per the MSP news release. "At 1:45 p.m. [local time] today, investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit located human remains consistent with that of a young child. Positive identification of the remains is pending autopsy results by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore," the release continued. The MSP added in the release, "Randle is currently in police custody at the New Castle County Division of Police awaiting extradition," while "Britten is in police custody in Maryland and awaiting transport to the Cecil County District Court for an initial appearance."
