Kansas City Chiefs DB Nohl Williams on ballhawk skills: 'Keep honing my craft'
During his introductory press conference late Friday night, Kansas City Chiefs third-round pick Nohl Williams explained how his ball-hawking abilities, developed in college, led to him leading the nation in interceptions in 2024.
"It comes from being consistent on the jugs and continuing to practice my ball skills in practice, and trying to translate it on the field. "Just making sure my eyes are in the right spots, my feet are nice and clean, and tight," said Williams. "How am I going to translate that to the pros? I feel like I have to learn from guys like Trent McDuffie (and) other guys in the room, for sure, and just come to work every day and keep honing my craft, keep perfecting my craft."
After transferring from UNLV in 2023, Williams totaled 53 tackles, six pass deflections, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns. In 2024, Williams' seven interceptions from the previous year at California earned him First Team All-ACC honors and made him a Consensus All-American.
Williams should fit in well with the Chiefs' secondary, seeking more takeaways from the secondary. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has asked for this throughout the 2024 season, and this could have been a determining factor in the former Golden Bears standout's selection.

Lincoln Riley Reveals the QB Who Has Impressed Him Amid USC's QB1 Battle

Lincoln Riley Reveals the QB Who Has Impressed Him Amid USC's QB1 Battle originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The USC Trojans enter the 2025 college football season with an intriguing competition at quarterback under head coach Lincoln Riley. Advertisement Former four-star Miller Moss lost the job during the 2024 season before transferring to Louisville during the winter transfer portal window. Moss' replacement, Jayden Maiava, returns after starting the final four games, featuring just one loss to national champion runner-up Notre Dame. In seven total appearances, the former UNLV standout completed 59.8% of his passes for 1,201 yards with 11 touchdowns to six interceptions while adding four touchdowns on the ground. Maiava has the benefit having a handful of starts as a Trojan under his belt entering his redshirt junior season. Five-star signee Husan Longstreet, however, appears to be coming along nicely and even received some praise from Lincoln entering the summer. USC quarterback Husan Longstreet (4)Diannie Chavez/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'He works really hard at it, and it's fun to coach guys who're just a football guy,' Riley said via On3's Pete Nakos. 'Husan doesn't have a million other interests off the field — he loves ball. He's up at the facility all the time. He's just really into it.' Advertisement Longstreet (6-foot, 202 pounds) signed with the Trojans as the No. 4 quarterback (On3) and the No. 21 overall recruit when coming out of Centennial High School in Corona, California. Riley proved last season that the Trojans won't wait around long at the quarterback position, and that likely won't change as USC attempts to bounce back after a disappointing 7-6 season. Moss had shown flashes of ability, but the inconsistency was seemingly too much to overcome for a Riley offense that has produced three Heisman Trophy quarterbacks dating back to his stint at Oklahoma. It wouldn't be surprising to see Longstreet continue to push Maiava, or even make a valuable early-season appearance, as the two compete for the starting nod. Longstreet has been working closely with USC's coaching staff to refine his mechanics and improve his command of the offense. Quarterbacks coach Luke Huard noted that Longstreet has embraced the challenge, showing a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. Advertisement During his senior season at Centennial High School, Longstreet threw for 1,641 yards and 19 touchdowns, adding 494 rushing yards and six scores on the ground. His dual-threat ability makes him a dangerous weapon, and USC fans are eager to see how he develops under Riley's guidance. While Jayden Maiava is expected to be the Trojans' starter this season, Longstreet's rapid improvement has sparked conversations about his future role. If he continues to progress at this rate, he could be a major factor in USC's offense sooner rather than later.
