The new Android "Godfather" malware creates an isolated virtual environment on mobile devices, according to BleepingComputer.
Hackers can then steal your account data and transactions from legitimate banking apps.
Malicious apps are executed inside the controlled virtual environment enabling real-time spying, credential theft and transaction manipulation.
This can all happen when you're none the wiser as it maintains perfect visual deception.
The tactic is similar to the FjordPhantom malware seen in 2023 but experts warn that the Godfather is much broader in scope.
It targets over 500 banking, cryptocurrency and e-commerce apps worldwide.
Zimperium, a world leader in mobile security, say that the level of deception is very high.
The user is able to see the real app but the Android protections don't pick up the malicious operation underway.
Once active on the device, the malware checks for installed target apps and places them inside its virtual environment.
The malware tricks Android into thinking that a legitimate app is being run while actually intercepting and controlling it.
A victim will launch their banking app and see the real app interface but all of their sensitive data can easily be hijacked.
The Godfather malware can then record account credentials, passwords, PINS and capture responses from your bank.
This is because the malware tricks the victim by displaying a fake lock screen to trick them into entering their passwords and PIN numbers.
Once criminals have harvested that data, they can then trigger payments inside the real banking app.
Huge Global Data Breach: 16 Billion Accounts at Risk
The victim might see a fake "update" screen or a black screen to evade suspicion.
The Godfather malware was first discovered in March 2021 and has seen a significant evolution.
In December 2022, analysts found that it could target over 400 apps over 16 countries.
Although the campaign analysts spotted only targets a dozen Turkish banking apps, Godfather operators could opt to target over 500 apps worldwide.
To protect yourself it's advised that you only download apps from Google Play or from app publishers you trust.
Android users should also ensure that Play Protect is active and pay attention to the requested permissions.

He also repeatedly gesticulated and adopted an aggressive demeanour towards three members of the cabin crew while on board the easyJet aircraft on September 27 last year. Shocked staff were forced to alert the police to Devine's rowdy behaviour and after landing at the Scottish capital officers boarded the plane and arrested the drunk 52-year-old. Devine pleaded guilty to three offences under The Air Navigation Order and Civil Aviation Act when his case called at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and sentence was deferred to Thursday. The court was told Devine, from Dundee, had been excused attendance at the hearing as he is currently out of the country for several months working off shore with the oilfield services company Saipem. Sheriff Thomas Welsh agreed to deal with the matter in his absence and sentenced the North Sea quality control coordinator to pay a total fine of £1475 to mark the offences. Devine, who also owns the real estate firm Devine Property Holdings Ltd, had been returning home after several weeks away when the ship he had been working on dropped him off at Sicily. While waiting on his flight at the island's Catania Airport the father of two telephoned his partner who told him she was leaving him and didn't want to see him on his return to Scotland. He was said to have become upset and began drinking alcohol in the airport lounge before continuing to down drinks while travelling home onboard the easyJet flight. The off shore engineer then became aggressive towards cabin crew after they warned him to stop using his vape and not to make telephone calls during the flight. Shocking moment a drunken passenger was arrested after 'punching two cabin crew members' Devine refused instructions to secure his seatbelt on take off and landing and shouted and swore at cabin crew members Colin Robinson, Lauren Hannah and Demi Gardner. A passenger who witnessed the drunken outburst said Devine had been 'a complete nightmare' during the flight. They said: 'The guy didn't seem too drunk when we took off but he began drinking during the flight and soon became abusive towards the crew. 'He was using his vape on a good few occasions, which was a complete disregard for all the other passengers, and was also on his phone to someone. 'He seemed quite upset about something and was shouting and swearing at the easyJet staff who had politely asked him to stop. 'The crew tried to take the vape off him but he wouldn't hand it over and they just didn't have any choice but to inform the police about his behaviour. 'He totally deserved to be arrested when we landed in Edinburgh and to be honest he was a complete nightmare during the flight.' Devine pleaded guilty to charges of being drunk on board the flight and failing to obey commands issued by the pilot and cabin crew, refuse to secure his seatbelt, make a telephone call and use a vape on board the aircraft and refuse to hand over the vape to the crew. He also admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting aggressively, all while on board the easyJet flight between Catania, Sicily, and Edinburgh Airport on September 27 last year.

The MMA great has faced several DUIs in the past TROUBLE AGAIN Jon Jones charged with leaving accident scene where 'intoxicated' woman 'lacking clothing from waist down' found Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) JON JONES was charged with fleeing with scene of an accident just days before announcing his retirement. Court records show the Hall of Famer was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which caused no great bodily harm or death, on June 17. The police report states that a woman was found in the front passenger seat of one of the cars involved in the incident. The woman, according to the report, was 'exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.' She is said to have told the police that Jones was the driver and ran away from the scene on foot before calling the MMA icon. A police aide stated the person on the phone, who they believed to be Jones, 'appeared to be heavily intoxicated and made statements implying his capacity to employ lethal force through third parties.' Jones is also said to have not directly identified himself to police during the conversation, in which he allegedly made 'allusions to violence'. In an interview with police, Jones claims the woman found in the car was intoxicated when she left his house earlier in the day. He claims she rang him after getting into the crash and passed the phone over to an officer who 'immediately opened the conversations with unprofessional language, which led him to doubt the legitimacy of the individual's claim.' 5 In the police report, the woman found in the car claims she drank alcohol and took mushrooms at Jones' house, with her "next recollection was being at the scene of a traffic accident.' But she remained adamant the person driving the car was Jones, who, in the police report, is said to have called the woman 13 times and sent her scores of text messages from the time of he crash until the following morning. Five Things UFC 309 Cameras Didn't Show Jones, 37, is no stranger to falling afoul of the law when it comes to driving. In 2015, he was charged with a felony hit and run after crashing into two cars - one of which was being driven by a pregnant woman - and leaving the scene on foot. Jones, who faced a litany of DUI's during his career, pled guilty to leaving the scene of a crime and served 18 months probation for the incident, which led to him being stripped of the light-heavyweight title. The bombshell news came on the same day Jones announced he wouldn't be fighting Brit Tom Aspinall in an eagerly-anticipated heayweight title unification fight and would be retiring from MMA. He wrote on X: "Today, I'm officially announcing my retirement from the UFC. "This decision comes after a lot of reflection, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I've experienced over the years. "From the first time I stepped into the Octagon, my goal was to push the boundaries of what was possible in this sport. "Becoming the youngest UFC champion in history, defending my title against some of the best fighters in the world, and sharing unforgettable moments with fans across the globe—these are memories I'll cherish forever. I'm officially announcing my retirement from the UFC Jon Jones "I've faced incredible highs and some tough lows, but every challenge has taught me something valuable and made me stronger, both as a fighter and as a person. "I want to thank the UFC, Dana, Hunter, Lorenzo, God, my family, coaches, teammates, and all the fans who have stood by me through every chapter. "Your unwavering support and belief in me have been my foundation. "To my fellow fighters, thank you for bringing out the best in me and for the respect we've shared inside and outside the cage. "As I close this chapter of my life, I look forward to new opportunities and challenges ahead. "MMA will always be a part of who I am. "And I'm excited to see how I can continue to contribute to the sport and inspire others in new ways. "Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey with me. The best is yet to come."
