The Lead: Suspected ISIS SA leader appears in a Joburg court, with Tankiso Makhetha
The Hawks' Crimes Against the State unit believe they've caught a suspected senior leader in the Islamic State terrorist network operating right out of Johannesburg's inner city.
Abubakar Ali (39) appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday to apply for bail after he was arrested in Fordsburg on a charge of carrying an unlicensed firearm.
The Lead host, Graeme Raubenheimer, crosses to News24's Tankiso Makhetha in court, who tells us why the case has been postponed to 11 June when other alleged ISIS-linked matters are due to be heard.

Russia's Wagner Group leaves Mali, Africa Corps will stay
The Russia-backed Wagner Group of mercenaries on Friday said that it is leaving Mali after more than three and a half years of fighting Islamist insurgents in the country. Despite the announcement by Wagner, Russia will continue to have its presence in Mali as the Africa Corps, a paramilitary force also controlled by Russia, will continue to stay in the country. The Africa Corps said on its Telegram channel that Wagner's departure would not introduce any changes, and the Russian contingent will remain in Mali. "Mission accomplished. Private Military Company Wagner returns home," the group announced via its channel on the messaging app Telegram. The Wagner Group has been in Mali since the army expelled the French and United Nations troops that were fighting Islamic insurgents for a decade. With waning Western influence in the region, Russia has rushed in to fill the gap and offer assistance. Wagner said that it has successfully brought all of the country's regional centers back under the control of the Malian military junta. The Africa Corps was formed with the Russian Defense Ministry's support after Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin and commander Dmitry Utkin led a failed military mutiny against the Russian army leadership and left Russia for Belarus with other mercenaries. Prigozhin was later killed in a plane crash north of Moscow, with US officials suggesting that a bomb or sabotage on board brought down the plane. About 70-80% of the Africa Corps group is made up of former Wagner mercenaries, according to several Telegram chats used by Russian mercenaries seen by Reuters news agency. Around 2,000 mercenaries are deployed in Mali. It is unclear how many are with Wagner and how many are part of the Africa Corps, according to US officials. Edited by: Wesley Dockery

Man caught with slain cop's phone arrested for barbershop murder
Constable Khulani Chabangu, 29, was shot dead during a barbershop robbery in Mpumalanga on 30 May. A 25-year-old suspect found with a cellphone allegedly taken from the murdered officer has been arrested. A second suspect remains at large. A man found in possession of a murdered policeman's phone has been arrested by the Hawks in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, a week after the officer was shot dead during a barbershop robbery in Calcutta, near Bushbuckridge. Constable Khulani Chabangu, 29, was visiting a barbershop at around 23:00 when two armed men entered the premises and ordered everyone to lie down. Chabangu, who was off duty, was reportedly ordered to undress before suspects made off with his clothes and car keys. It is alleged they shot and killed him when he followed them outside the barbershop. The suspects then fled the scene in the officer's vehicle. Chabangu had been stationed at Volkrust police station. Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi said the suspect was arrested in Calcutta on Friday afternoon. Nkosi said he was found in possession of two cellphones. 'It is alleged that one of the cellphones was [stolen] during the murder of the police official,' Nkosi said. 'Further investigation was conducted that led the team to the suspect's friend's house. On seeing the police, the suspect's friend managed to evade arrest and vanished within the residential area. A search was conducted in the house whereby a handgun with [filed off] serial numbers and four live ammunition rounds were found.' Mpumalanga Hawks head Major General Nico Gerber said his members 'will not rest until all those behind the murder of our fallen hero are brought to book'. The suspect is expected to appear in the Calcutta Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of murder, business robbery, theft, car theft as well as illegal gun and ammunition possession.
