2 dead, 2 others seriously injured in multivehicle crash caused by truck that swerved to miss deer in Kane County
KANE COUNTY, Ill. – Two people died Sunday night in a multivehicle crash in Kane County after a pickup truck swerved to miss a deer.
The Kane County Sheriff's Office said just before 9:45 p.m., deputies were sent to the intersection of Plank Road and Switzer Road a crash involving four vehicles.
The investigation revealed a red Ford F150 was traveling westbound on Plant Road when its 18-year-old driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting a deer. The driver, however, was unable to avoid the deer and went into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing a passing landscaping vehicle traveling eastbound, according to officials.

Detectives said the Ford F150 then hit a white GMC Sierra carrying three people and hauling a trailer and skid steer head-on. After the collision, a red Dodge Ram hit the Ford F150, resulting in the Ford F150 to catch fire.
The driver of the Ford F150, still trapped inside the truck at the time of the fire, was rescued after the driver-side window was broken out, although he suffered serious burns and fractures and was flown to Loyola Hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators said two people inside the GMC Sierra, identified as 31-year-old Erick Garcia-Porcayo and 25-year-old Rosalio Porcayo-Porcayo, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra was seriously injured and flown to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing.

2 indicted of pursuit ending in wrong-way crash on I-75
Jun. 13—Two men have been indicted after they were accused of fleeing from police and causing a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75. James Robert Collins, 46, of Dayton and Thomas Russell Downey, 49, of Fairborn, were each indicted in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and obstructing official business. Collis was also indicted for one county of vehicular assault. According to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office, their charges stem from June 5, 2025. That evening, Collins was driving a GMC Sierra with no visible registration when a Perry Twp. police officer tried to pull the pickup truck over at Wolf Creek Pike and Diamond Mill Road, according to an affidavit filed in Montgomery County Municipal Court Western Division. Downey was riding in the truck bed, and there were two passengers in the truck, though the passengers are not facing charges. The pickup fled, but was tracked by an Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter. During the pursuit, Downey started throwing lumber out of the bed of the truck, the affidavit said. The prosecutor's office said that law enforcement successfully deployed stop stick tire deflation devices on Little Richmond Road near Ohio 49. However, Collins managed to regain control while driving on rims, the affidavit said. He drove the pickup truck on the wrong side of the road on U.S. 35 West and on I-75 North, followed by deputies with lights and sirens activated, according to the sheriff's office. On I-75 at Dryden Road, the pickup truck crashed into another vehicle head-on, causing a crash that involved six vehicles. All four people in the pickup fled on foot but were taken into custody, the sheriff's office said. The prosecutor's office said that four people were injured and taken to the hospital, one of which was seriously hurt. They added that Collins' driver's license was suspended at the time. Collins and Downey are scheduled to be arraigned June 26.

Pierre and the surrounding community continue to mourn the loss of a young life.16-year-old Aiden Van Balen was killed in a car crash on June 4th. Aiden had just completed his sophomore year at TF Riggs High School. He loved playing sports and was known for tooling around town on his moped. 'You know he was a buddy to everybody and such a goofball, some of the stories that his buddies talked about you know just, he was just a remarkable young man,' said family friend Brie Korkow. Soon after his death, Korkow started a GoFundMe campaign to ease the financial burdan an unexpected death like Aiden's can leave behind. You know and so to just give his family some financial room to breathe, they don't have to worry about rushing back to work. They can take their time to grieve you know in such an unimaginable loss,' said Korkow. Korkow admits she didn't know what to expect, so she set the GoFundMe goal at 5-thousand dollars. 'We blew past that, so I'm like I'll up it to ten, blew past that, and now we are well over 25 thousand dollars, so it's just incredible how people come together, and it's such a great platform to be able to support this family,' said Korkow Korkow saiys Aiden's parents have told her they plan to use some of the money to start a scholarship fund in his name. Woman shaken up after Virginia Beach townhome shooting
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (wavy) — Shana Turner, who is in preparation to move out of her College Square home, was sleeping on a cot Thursday night when someone opened fire on a row of townhomes. Once she heard bullets, she was crawling to exit out of the room she was asleep in. 'It came out through [one] wall to [another] wall and I have pictures to where the bullet was lodged at,' said Turner. There is damage to the exterior of her home and at least five other units that face Level Green Boulevard. Turner admitted she would not feel comfortable sleeping in her neighborhood following the shooting. 'I suffer from severe anxiety, depression and PTSD. This has triggered my PTSD. I felt like I was in a war zone. I never did combat, but PTSD is real,' said Turner. The incident resonated deeply with Turner for two additional reasons. 'Losing my son to senseless violence in 2017; the second reason because we are losing too many of our generations, our young people are killing each other.' said Turner. In an effort to take back the community, Turner has an organization, HR M.A.S.K., that holds public events. For instance, she sponsored a basketball tournament last weekend where attendees were encouraged to wear orange, which is the color that represents efforts to curb gun violence.
