Fancy an R11 flight? FlySafair's mega-sale is back!

Time Out06-05-2025

You might recall the online mayhem of previous years, when travellers went mad for the chance to bag a cut-price FlySafair fare. And to be fair, it is a pretty darn good deal.
Starting at 9am on May 7, 2025, FlySafair will sell 50,000 seats across its domestic flight network for R11 each. Eleven bucks! That's the same price as a litre of milk, a Bar-One, or 22 Chappies!
Perhaps even more impressive is that the fare includes the airport tax. On a typical flight from Cape Town to OR Tambo International Airport, airport taxes and aviation levies account for R875 of what you would usually pay!
The sale takes place exclusively on FlySafair's website – flysafair.co.za – and, as with previous sales, prospective flyers will have to take a number in a virtual waiting room to ensure the FlySafair website isn't overwhelmed by demand. Once (or if) you're let out of the waiting room and onto the site, you'll have 10 minutes to complete your booking, so start checking your diary for dates today.
To pass the time, the airline states that you will be able to play a new waiting room game, Flappy Plane. Nice.
Of course, any deal this good has to have terms and conditions, right? Well, the same applies here.
But… FlySafair only sent us last year's Ts & Cs [oops], so we'll update this story as soon as we receive the correct ones. But if 2024 is anything to go by, expect those R11 flight bookings to be limited to departures between 8 May and the end of November. Group bookings of more than 10 passengers likely won't be allowed, and you also can't book unaccompanied minors. Stay tuned for more details!

Tourists urged to avoid popular bar which 'charges customers 100 Euro for a beer'

Tourists have urged fellow holidaymakers to avoid a notorious bar in Greece that is 'charging €100' for a beer. DK Oyster claims it 'boasts an exceptional atmosphere with fantastic service, beautiful seaside view', however, its reviews say otherwise. But Brits have taken to Tripadvisor to warn against the business, which is located on the idyllic island of Mykonos. Just one week ago, a British man revealed how he was charged an eye-watering €100 (£84) for a lager, before bar staff attempted to haggle at the price. Detailing his experience, Nathan said: 'Asked for a seat in the sun and a drinks menu, he offered us 1 litre of lager for €100! 'Once we said no thanks he proceeded to drop the price but we didn't stick around, if you find yourself here, do yourself a favour and walk on to another bar as they don't try to rip you off and the atmosphere is much better. We ended up paying €7 [£6] each for a lager.' Another unhappy customer, named Sue, told how she and her group of friends were enticed in with the offer of free sunbeds, before ordering drinks without a menu. She explained: 'When we asked for the total, we were presented with a bill just under €400 [£337] for a handful of drinks. 'We were shocked to discover we were charged for more drinks than we had actually ordered, including the so-called 'free' one. Even soft drinks like Coca-Cola, we were told, were also €35 [£29] each.' TripAdvisor has even slapped a warning on the bar's official page, encouraging potential customers to carry out their own research first before visiting. It reads: 'Tripadvisor has been made aware of recent media reports or events concerning this property which may not be reflected in reviews found on this listing. 'Accordingly, you may wish to perform additional research for information about this property when making your travel plans.' A menu posted online shows the extreme pricing for beverages, with a glass of white wine Chardonnay costing €130 (£109). An Aperol will set you back €58 (£49), a Jack Daniel's €49 (£41), while a Pimm's is €58 (£49) by the glass. A receipt posted by one holidaymaker showed how they were charged a staggering €136 (£114) for two glasses of prosecco. The fresh complaints come after MailOnline visited the Mykonos restaurant last year and was hit with a fee of over €100 for a mouthful of crab, plus service. TripAdvisor has slapped a warning on the bar's official page, encouraging potential customers to carry out their own research first before visiting In response, however, the restaurant's owner Dimitrios Kalamaras insisted that his establishment had been 'unfairly traduced by a freeloader who wanted to eat for gratis and position herself as an influencer'. To determine which of these accounts was closer to the truth, MailOnline went undercover at the restaurant, posing as innocent holidaymakers who had wandered into the restaurant after spotting it by chance. Three years ago, following damaging publicity in the US media when two American tourists were charged €600 for two drinks and a portion of crab legs, the Greek government came down hard on the restaurant. The minister of tourism, Vassillis Kikilias instructed the Cyclades Regional Tourism Agency to investigate and they duly found several tax violations in the company's books, leading to a guilty plea and a fine of €31,000.

Massive European waterpark with 14 themed lands opens new outdoor pool and 150-seat swim up bar

A MASSIVE European waterpark has opened a new year-round outdoor pool - and it comes with a massive swim-up bar. The outdoor pool Svømmepøl is n the Rulantica water world at Europa-Park Resort in Germany. 4 It measures around 660sqm and sits inside a Nordic-style 'volcanic landscape'. The 32C heated pool is in the 'Dynstrønd' area of the park and is the largest open-air pool in Rulantica to date. It also has several features including geysers, water mist and an infinity area. In addition, there is a rock cave with bubbling water loungers and a discovery tour with mascot 'Snorri' - perfect for little ones. There is a swim-up bar called 'Svømme-Bar' too - which seats 150 guests. The pool is then surrounded by sun loungers and Nordic vegetation. Visitors can also get to the outdoor swimming area from the indoor area. Europa-Park's owner, Ronald Mack, said: "With 'Svømmepøl', we are expanding Rulantica's year-round offering with a spacious and fascinatingly designed outdoor pool that promises both relaxation and adventure. "The numerous details and special features create an impressive bathing experience and once again set new standards in innovative water attractions," reports EAP Magazine. The pool even took an entire week to fill. Inside Universal Epic Universe with incredible thrill rides and amazing food Rulantica first opened in 2019 and in total spans 32,600sqm with 14 themed zones based on Nordic legends including Rangnakor. There are 50 slides and attractions in total, as well as a wave pool and two swim up bars. There are a number of other experiences available at the waterpark including evening DJ sets and private relaxation booths and saunas. Rulantica is operated by Europa-Park, which sits just next door to the waterpark. There is even a free shuttle that runs between the two attractions. Tickets to enter Rulantica cost £38.50 and tickets to enter Europa-Park cost £54. What is Europa-Park like? WRITER Lee Bell recently visited Europa-Park and has shared his thoughts. Within just one hour, I wake up in Rome, stroll through the streets of southern Spain, and whizz through Scandinavia on a rollercoaster. There are still 15 more countries to see before the day is through. But that is easily done at Europa Park — a mega theme park in Germany where different areas are designed to look just like European countries. Spanning 230 acres just outside Rust, a small unassuming town in the southwest of the country near the borders of France and Switzerland, this theme park and hotel resort is an adrenaline junkie's dream. And its theming means you can travel the continent on a whirlwind tour. The attention to detail is off the chart. The Greece area captures the feel of being in Mykonos while the Switzerland section transports you to the heart of the Alps. From the architecture to the street signs, it feels like you're really visiting these different lands. Its extravagance reminds me of a family-friendly Las Vegas, just without the casinos and flashing neon lights. Instead, it's packed with 13 rollercoasters, 100 attractions, six themed hotels, and a full-blown water park. Back in February, Europa-Park celebrated its 50th anniversary and with it, opened a new ride. Featuring the park's mice mascots Ed and Edda, the ride is a train journey with an interactive gaming element. The ride is based on the upcoming film, 'Grand Prix of Europe ' - a cartoon film that stars Ed and Edda voiced by Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Gemma Arterton. Visitors can ride on 'Grand Prix EDventure' with Ed and Edda's racing crew and take a trip across Europe. There was also a £75million indoor tropical waterpark that nearly opened in the UK. Plus, the first look at huge new £200million indoor waterpark opening in the UK with aquadrome and adventure zone. 4 4
