USC Misses Landing 47% Shooter to Big Ten Rival

The USC Trojans built the nation's fifth-best college basketball transfer portal class for 2025. But Eric Musselman and company missed landing a high-profile shooter who considered USC. Let alone a 47% shooter.
USC landed in the final mix for Miami guard Divine Ugochukwu. But he decided on USC's Big Ten rival Michigan State, per Justin Thind of 247Sports Sunday.

How did the Spartans win over the talented available guard? Thind revealed MSU hosted Ugochukwu on campus in East Lansing during the week of May 12. That visit, though, became a two-day one for the former Hurricanes shooter. He played sparingly for Miami (20.8 minutes per game). But still shot 47.3% on all field goal attempts.

Ugochukwu averaged 5.3 points per game off the bench. He also dished out 2.3 assists per contest. But he witnessed a sudden coaching change during the season.
His head coach Jim Larranaga resigned during the season around Christmas time. The longtime Hurricanes coach cited frustrations with the NIL landscape as to what persuaded his decision. He left as Miami's all-time winningest head coach and took "The U" to its first Final Four appearance in 2023.

Miami since turned to Jai Lucas as Larranaga's successor, who comes via Duke. However, the former assistant with the Blue Devils watched roster attrition unfold. Including Ugochukwu jumping into the portal.
Thind adds Texas Tech was in the final mix with USC to land the 6-foot-3 combo guard. Ugochukwu would've gone back to his home state had he chose the Red Raiders. He's a native of Sugar Land.
Now, Musselman and his coaching staff will game plan against the former 'Cane.

USC baseball ace Caden Aoki granted extra year of eligibility, enters transfer portal

USC baseball ace Caden Aoki granted extra year of eligibility, enters transfer portal On Monday, USC baseball's season came to an end in the NCAA Tournament. After making their first postseason appearance in 10 years, the Trojans fell to Oregon State in the final of the Corvallis Regional. On Wednesday, the Trojans got more tough news when it was reported that their top pitcher, Caden Aoki, will be entering the transfer portal. Aoki was a senior this past season, but was granted an additional season of eligibility by the NCAA. However, it now appears as though he will spend that season elsewhere. After spending his freshman year at Notre Dame in 2022, Aoki transferred to USC prior to the 2023 season. He emerged as the Trojans' top starting pitcher over the better part of the past three seasons. In 2025, he went 6-4 with a 3.99 ERA. However, it was the NCAA Tournament where Aoki forever etched himself into Trojans lore. In USC's tournament opener against TCU, Aoki allowed just one run over eight innings, throwing 114 pitches. For his performance, he was named to the all-Corvallis Regional team. While the Trojans were likely expecting to lose Aoki anyway, seeing him hit the transfer portal would be a tough loss. Given that USC lacked pitching depth behind Aoki in 2025, it will be critical that head coach Andy Stankiewicz address the position this offseason.

NFL 'tush push' ruling draws USC reaction

NFL 'tush push' ruling draws USC reaction Recently, the NFL made headlines surrounding a vote on the legal status of one of its more popular and controversial plays. Known as the "tush push," the play essentially consists of offensive linemen getting behind the ball carrier—typically the quarterback—and pushing him forward past the line to gain. The play has been popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles in recent seasons. However, as USC fans know, its history goes back nearly two decades to October 15, 2005. That evening, USC running back Reggie Bush pushed quarterback Matt Leinart into the end zone to take down archrival Notre Dame. In late May, the NFL held a vote regarding the legalization status of the play, which has come under much scrutiny in recent seasons. After being put to vote, it was determined that the play will still be legal moving forward. Following the news, Leinart took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter. "Yo @ReggieBush we trendsetters," Leinart wrote. "The BUSH PUSH lives on!" This fall will mark 20 years since the original Bush Push took place on that fateful evening in South Bend, Indiana. Very few of the players who participated in that game are still playing football. But as long as the play continues to be used in the NFL, the legacy of the Bush Push will continue to live on. "

The first signature shoe for Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson by Nike wasn't around very long as the A'Ones hit the market on Tuesday and sold out in less than five minutes. When the shoes went on sale at 10 a.m., it didn't take long for the website to say the in-demand kicks were out of stock. Advertisement As of Wednesday morning, the link for the shoe on Nike's website still says "the product you are looking for is no longer available." Wilson said on social media that the pink shoes, which retail for $110 for adults and $90 for kids, will be available again later in the week. 'This morning was wild,' she wrote on Instagram. "If you missed the A'One, don't worry. We're dropping again Thursday at Nike stores and other spots everywhere. I do this for the real ones, always.' Aces team owner Mark Davis wore a pair of A'One white OG Pearls while sitting courtside for Tuesday's pre-season game against the Phoenix Mercury. "I'm so glad the shoe can be a tool to bring people together," Wilson said when asked about Davis' show of support. "I'm so thankful we have him on our side because he does a lot of things to help us be a better team." Advertisement The Texas Longhorns women's basketball team wore the pink A'Ones during their run to the Final Four. "I couldn't believe it. Even seeing them when I was surprising them, some of them already had the shoes on, and I'm like, 'All right, well, the cat's out the bag.' It's extremely just joyful for me to share this experience," Wilson told For the Win. "To see young girls, to see teams, to see boys ― everybody in between ― wearing my shoe, particularly on a big stage like the Final Four when they didn't have to." The A'One Blue Indigo Girl and white OG Pearl shoes will be available on May 15. Wilson, who is the 13th woman to have a signature shoe, is only 28 years old but has won the WNBA MVP three times, Defensive Player of the Year twice, and led the Aces to two championships. The Aces begin their season on May 17 against the champion New York Liberty. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: A'ja Wilson's signature A'One Nike shoes sell out in minutes
