Stockton May Day mass shooting: community reflects 1 year later
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — This weekend marks the first anniversary of the worst mass shooting in the history of Baldwin County.
5-year-old killed, Citronelle woman arrested in Mobile County crash
A year after the violence, healing continues.
May 11, 2024, in Stockton, there was an abrupt ending to May Day celebrations on Bryants Landing Road when gunfire erupted, injuring dozens and killing three people, Michael Anderson Jr., Chequita Ewing and Christian Bradley.
An intense investigation began, and eventually, Tyquan French, Mack Adams and Robert Brown, Jr. would all be arrested and charged with murder.
'A lot of the people that cause problems here aren't from here,' Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery said last year's tragedy has had a ripple effect on this year's celebrations. 'I think you will see some of the May Days are down from what they were last year. Some of the celebrations will be down somewhat, which is sad, you know, that you let a few people ruin what typically is a good event.'
Those sentiments are echoed by Pastor Lesley Williams, who will host a memorial to mark the anniversary. He said May Day events are subdued this year, that they had spiraled into a big party, and starting next year, he hopes to see a return to a more family friendly celebration.
The memorial is planned for noon on Saturday. There will be food, a balloon release and prayers for all those impacted by the violence.

Meanwhile, French, Adams and Brown remain behind bars in Baldwin and Mobile Counties. They are all being held without bond as they wait for their cases to be presented to a Baldwin County Grand Jury.
