
SCCI strengthens economic and investment relations with Kuwait
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) engaged in discussions with a high-level diplomatic delegation from the State of Kuwait, exploring avenues for enhancing economic and trade relations.
The discussions focused on facilitating the exchange of trade missions and hosting joint business events, thereby fostering mutual investment cooperation across diverse sectors and strengthening partnerships between the two business communities.
Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, met with Khalid Abdulrahim Al-Zaabi, the Consul General of the State of Kuwait in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The meeting was attended by Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and Dr Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations at SCCI, as well as several key officials from both sides.During the meeting, both sides explored opportunities to develop and enhance economic cooperation and trade ties between Sharjah and Kuwait at the private sector level, and to encourage companies across various sectors to increase the exchange of information on investment prospects.
Al Owais praised the strong fraternal ties between the two countries, which continue to witness significant growth across various sectors, especially in the economic and trade fields.
He noted that that non-oil trade between the UAE and Kuwait reached approximately Dhs45.4 billion ($12.4 billion) during the first 11 months of 2024, marking a year-on-year growth of 7.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.
He underlined the significance of sustaining the momentum of economic cooperation and the need to strengthen it by increasing trade exchange and fostering bilateral economic relations across industrial, commercial, and investment sectors.
The Sharjah Chamber briefed the visiting delegation on the investment opportunities available in Sharjah, highlighting the attractive incentives offered by the emirate and its institutions to entrepreneurs from across the globe.
The Chamber pinpointed the multiple advantages that position Sharjah as a prime destination for Kuwaiti companies to establish their business and industrial operations and launch new projects.
He pointed out the emirate's modern infrastructure, advanced logistics services, flexible regulatory framework, and strategic geographic location, all of which contribute to creating an ideal environment for business growth.
In February, Zyad Abdullah Alnajem, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the State of Kuwait, stressed that the future of economic relations between Kuwait and the UAE holds promising prospects that ensure prosperity and growth in the Gulf region, underpinned by strong trade and investment ties.
He added that the UAE is one of Kuwait's largest trading partners globally and the largest in the Arab world, with bilateral trade witnessing significant growth in recent years.
Speaking on the sidelines of the UAE-Kuwait Week, Alnajem highlighted that the well-planned economic policies of both nations and their bilateral cooperation have contributed to enhancing trade exchange, resulting in substantial levels of investment. Kuwaiti investments in the UAE have notably flourished, particularly in real estate, services, financial investments and tourism.
He also noted that Emirati investments in Kuwait support economic growth, particularly in the maritime and aviation sectors, with 122 weekly flights between the two countries, ensuring continued economic integration.
Alnajem pointed out that several bilateral agreements have been signed recently within the framework of the UAE-Kuwait Joint Higher Committee, focusing on key areas such as telecommunications, cybersecurity and information technology.
Additionally, the agreement on avoiding double taxation aims to facilitate the movement of goods, services and capital between the two countries while enhancing the competitiveness of local companies in both markets.
Alnajem affirmed that Kuwaiti-UAE trade relations serve as a model of Arab integration, where both nations collaborate to achieve mutual interests. He underscored that their historical ties, reinforced through mutual understanding, constructive cooperation and innovation in emerging economic sectors, are essential for supporting development and economic diversification plans in both countries.

He noted that strengthening the exhibition industry remains a top priority for the Sharjah Chamber, as it serves as a key growth driver, positively influencing related sectors such as tourism. In 2024, the emirate recorded 1.6 million hotel guests, reflecting an 11% increase compared to 2023. For his part, Saif Mohammed Al Midfa remarked that Global Exhibitions Day coincides with a period of continued growth and diversification at Expo Centre Sharjah. In 2024, the Centre welcomed close to 3 million visitors, with an expanded portfolio of sector-specific events. In the first half of 2025, performance indicators remained strong, with new exhibitors representing nearly 20% of total participation, an achievement that reinforces the Centre's position as a globally competitive hub for international trade shows and exhibitions. Al Midfa also noted that the exhibitions sector plays a vital role in driving economic activity. According to the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), the exhibitions sector made a substantial economic impact in 2024, recording USD 398.2 billion in total spending, including USD 162.3 billion in direct expenditures. The sector also contributed USD 233.1 billion to global GDP, as reported by UFI. During the first half of 2025, Expo Sharjah, along with its affiliate centres in Khorfakkan and Al Dhaid, delivered a robust performance and significant milestones. Expo Centre Sharjah's 2025 events calendar commenced with the 'SteelFab' exhibition, attracting nearly 300 companies from 35 countries. Imge courtesy: WAM The UAE and Kuwait signed a series of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on Monday, aimed at deepening cooperation across strategic sectors including health, energy, education, and defence, during an official visit by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, state news agency, WAM reported. The signing ceremony, held at Bayan Palace in the presence of Sheikh Mansour and Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, underscores the two Gulf nations' intent to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional dynamics. The agreements span a wide range of areas, with key MoUs covering healthcare, infrastructure, investment, social development, energy transition, and AI, as both countries pursue mutual development priorities and enhanced regional integration. UAE-Kuwait agreements signed According to the WAM report, the key deals signed cover sectors such as: Health: MoUs were signed between the UAE and Kuwait's health ministries to boost collaboration in medical services and public health policy. Education: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in the education sector through a pact signed by their respective ministers of education. Energy and infrastructure: MoUs included commitments to collaborate in land transport, roads, oil and gas, and future energy initiatives such as water and electricity. Technology and industry: A separate agreement focused on industry and advanced technology was signed to support innovation and knowledge exchange. Humanitarian and legal affairs: Joint frameworks were agreed to address human trafficking and legal cooperation, reflecting a shared focus on rights and rule of law. Investment: The UAE's Minister of Investment and the head of Kuwait's Direct Investment Promotion Authority signed an MoU to promote bilateral investment flows. Security and data: Ministries of Interior from both sides inked an MoU on data protection and joint security information-sharing projects. AI partnership initiated, naval contract with EDGE The Kuwait Investment Authority joined the 'Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership' initiative, which includes global partners MGX, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Microsoft — adding regional backing to the tech-driven project. In a separate defence agreement, Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with UAE-based EDGE Group for the procurement of several 'Falaj 3' class missile boats, highlighting deepening defence industry ties between the two states. Representing the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals globally, the agreement positions EDGE as the prime contractor overseeing the design, construction, trials, delivery, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS) for the vessels. EDGE will also supply ammunition, highlighting its end-to-end defence capabilities. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE's naval arm and the UAE's premier shipbuilder, has been appointed as the build subcontractor. Eid Al Adha: Sharjah to operate 180 buses on various routes during holidays
Anticipating a surge in travel during Eid Al Adha break, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) will operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days of the holidays. The transport authority said that during peak times, buses will run every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times. SRTA said that it will also increase staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during the holidays. The authority said it will be running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. Marine transport SRTA also said that there will be a special boat service, operating between Sharjah and Dubai, in coordination with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, during the break. The authority said that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai.
