Trent Alexander-Arnold told 'ship has sailed' as Liverpool star warned - 'Everyone knows'

Daily Mirror26-04-2025

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer with the full-back's contract nearing its end and no agreement between player and club yet in sight
Trent Alexander-Arnold's move from Liverpool to Real Madrid is "done", according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper also claimed that the Anfield hierarchy are fully aware that an agreement to take the Reds' full-back to Madrid as a free agent this summer is all but complete.
Alexander-Arnold's contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season and an agreement over a new deal is yet to be reached. It's widely understood that Los Blancos are intent on bringing Liverpool's vice-captain to La Liga.

However, last Sunday saw the 26-year-old's name back in the headlines after he scored the winning goal against Leicester City to move Arne Slot's team a step closer to being confirmed as Premier League champions.

Alexander-Arnold's wild celebrations in front of the travelling Kop sparked chatter that the supposed wantaway star was actually having second thoughts over his mooted move to the Spanish capital.
Yet speaking to Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Robinson, 43, explained that the deal has been agreed since January and there is now no way back for Alexander-Arnold, or Liverpool. He also warned the defender that if he were to U-turn, it would leave lots of people upset.
'No, there's no chance,' the ex-Three Lions star said. 'It's kite-flying journalism, there's absolutely no chance.
"We heard Mo Salah was going to sign, that came out, then we heard that Virgil van Dijk was going to sign, and that came out.
'With Trent, there's not been a dicky bird. He's gone, it's done, and I told you that in January. He'd upset a lot of people in Madrid if that was the case, there have been handshakes and agreements in place.

"It would be one of the biggest U-turns I've ever seen. There's no way Trent is coming back, that ship has sailed and everyone at Liverpool knows it.'
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that, while Liverpool have not given up hope that Alexander-Arnold could still sign a new contract to stay with the club, it appears that any effort from the Reds may be in vain.
The reporter has insisted that there has been no changes in the situation and declared that, despite any recent celebrations indicating otherwise, Alexander-Arnold is expected to sign on the dotted line for Madrid come the summer.
Liverpool can clinch their 20th top-flight league title with a draw against Spurs on Sunday. The Reds' second Premier League title in five years would also represent Alexander-Arnold's ninth major honour with the club since he made his first-team debut in 2016.

Forward Delap joins Chelsea ahead of Club World Cup

June 4 (Reuters) - Forward Liam Delap has joined Chelsea on a six-year contract ahead of this month's Club World Cup, leaving Ipswich Town after they were relegated from the Premier League, the West London side said on Wednesday. Media reports say Chelsea signed the 22-year-old in a deal worth 30 million pounds ($40.66 million). The Winchester-born former Manchester City player helps plug a forward shortage at Chelsea before the Club World Cup, with Nicolas Jackson, who scored 10 league goals this season, being the only prominent forward available. Attacking midfielder Cole Palmer led the club's scoring charts in the Premier League this season with 15 goals. Delap, who was shortlisted for the Young Player of the Year award, scored 12 goals in 37 league appearances for Ipswich this season as they finished 19th. "I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach," Delap said in a Chelsea statement. "It's going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies." Chelsea kick off their Club World Cup campaign against Club Leon on June 16. ($1 = 0.7378 pounds)

Sir Dave Brailsford set for reduced role at Manchester United after reshuffle

Brailsford has played a major part since Ratcliffe secured his stake in United in February 2024, stepping down as team principal of the Ineos Grenadiers cycling team to take charge of footballing operations at Old Trafford and investing considerable time and energy in driving change at the club. But after a season in which United finished 15th, their worst Premier League finish, and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, Ratcliffe is planning a shake-up which will see Brailsford return to his role as director of sport for the wider Ineos group, as first reported by The Times. Under the plans, Jason Wilcox – currently United's technical director – will reportedly be named director of football, and former Tour de France winner and Olympic champion Geraint Thomas is set to take on a leadership role with the Grenadiers when he retires as a rider at the end of the year. Brailsford, 61, has overseen a major overhaul of United's operations, including a £50million redevelopment of the Carrington training ground. Ratcliffe has scaled back some of Ineos's sporting commitments, terminating its sponsorship of the New Zealand rugby team and ending his bid to win the America's Cup. However, Ratcliffe remains committed to the cycling team, who no longer hold the dominant position they did when winning the Tour de France in seven out of eight editions between 2012 and 2019. Thomas, 39, has said he will retire after the Tour of Britain in September.

From pitch invader scuffle to matchwinner – Cristiano Ronaldo stars for Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo overcame a pre-match scuffle with an enthusiastic fan to again be Portugal's hero as he fired them to the Nations League final. The 40-year-old was confronted by a pitch invader who wanted a selfie ahead of kick-off before scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 semi-final victory over Germany in Munich. The hosts had gone in front early in the second half when Liverpool transfer target Florian Wirtz headed home but Roberto Martinez's men hit back with two goals in five minutes. A brilliant strike from Francisco Conceicao, whose father Sergio scored the last time Portugal beat Germany in Euro 2000, brought them level before Ronaldo bagged his 137th international goal with an easy tap-in to win the match. It sent Portugal through to the final where they will meet either Spain or France on Sunday. There was plenty of drama in the warm-up as midway through an electrical storm, Ronaldo had his confrontation, with the young fan dragged away by stewards. The storm caused a 10-minute delay to kick-off, but once the action got under way it was almost an electric start for the hosts as they started on the front foot with Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa making two great saves. First he produced a fine stop to deny debutant Nick Woltemade's fizzed effort before getting down quickly to turn Leon Goretzka's stroked effort around the post. Florian Wirtz. Certified baller. 💯 #DFB #GermanFootball #GermanMNT #GERPOR 📸 DFB/ Philipp Reinhard — German Football (@DFB_Team_EN) June 4, 2025 Portugal were inches away from taking the lead early in the second half as Ronaldo was just unable to connect with Nuno Mendes' incisive cross, which agonisingly grazed the striker's studs. And soon after the ball went in at the other end as Germany took the lead in the 48th minute. Joshua Kimmich, winning his 100th cap, made it, clipping a delightful ball over the defence for Wirtz to run on to and find the bottom corner. Portugal's response was good and Bruno Fernandes, fresh from a post-season tour to Asia with Manchester United, whipped an effort just wide. But it was substitute Conceicao who made the difference five minutes after coming off the bench. 40-years-old. #NationsLeague — UEFA EURO (@UEFAEURO) June 4, 2025 It was a brilliant individual goal, cutting in from the right, driving towards goal before finding the bottom corner with a 25-yard curling effort. The turnaround was complete five minutes later after another fine goal. Mendes played a one-two with Fernandes and then laid it on a plate for Ronaldo to tap into an empty net after just staying onside. Conceicao could have killed the match but whistled an effort just wide and Germany almost equalised moments later as Karim Adeyemi advanced into the box but his shot hit the outside of the post.
