Matildas star Katrina Gorry blasts attacks on kids who have two mums as she defends Sam Kerr over sickening comments
Katrina Gorry has defended Sam Kerr after an Australian politician accused the Matildas star of 'deliberately depriving' her baby son of a father.
Gorry, who shares daughter Harper and son Koby with her fiancée Clara Markstedt, hit back after Family First party national director Lyle Shelton made the vile comments last month.
Shelton spoke out just after Kerr and her fiancée Kristie Mewis announced the arrival of their son Jagger, writing, 'A baby is born - but where's dad?
'Family first congratulates Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis on the birth of their son - but we must speak a truth too many are afraid to say.
'No child should be deliberately deprived of their father. Children aren't lifestyle accessories - they're human beings with rights.'
Shelton went on to ask: 'When cultural elites cheer on choices that sideline dads, who's left standing for the child?'
Gorry slammed the statement and others like it as she said the gender of a child's parents has nothing to do with the quality of their care.
'When I look at my kids, they're full of love, they're full of hapiness,' she told News Corp.
'Yeah, they don't have a dad, but they've got two mums.
'Harper thinks it's pretty cool that she's got two mums and I see the life that they live.
'I've seen kids being brought up with a mum and a dad and [they're] not treated the same way.
'And I think if you're two healthy parents and you can give them love and happiness, then what's left to give?
'It shouldn't matter if you're a male or female. It should just matter if you can love the child and give them everything that they need.'
Gorry added that she and her partner spent a lot of money to have their children through IVF, 'and I think that says more than anything' about how much they care for their kids.
The Matildas midfielder (pictured with Harper and Koby) will marry Markstedt on June 15
The 32-year-old midfielder - who will marry Clarkstedt on June 15 - recently opened up about her four-year battle with a debilitating eating disorder.
'I couldn't even get out of bed, I just couldn't see how I was ever going to feel better,' she said.
'I didn't want to go to training or social events, or even play football, something I once loved.
'I lost all joy in life.'
In 2017, Gorry was living and playing in Japan when her life started to spiral out of control following the breakdown of a long-term relationship.
The then 25-year-old needed to regain control of her circumstances and soon developed an eating disorder.
Gorry sought help from a psychologist, but says the turning point in her recovery was becoming pregnant with her first child Harper in 2020.
'My recovery journey has been long and gradual, with ups and downs.
'I finally admitted to my psychologist that I needed help.
'I just needed to open up to someone who would listen, they didn't need to fix me, they just needed to be there and listen.
'One of the biggest shifts came when I became pregnant, that's when I realised how much I loved and appreciated my body and how much respect I had for it.'

And I hope to raise them to be non judgemental and pro SW [sex work].' 'My mum never raised me to be judgemental of other people and always told me to accept people for who they are. 'And that's how I plan to raise my children. And I can't wait to raise them to be as accepting and non-judgemental as I am. 'And I know they will understand why I chose the career that I did and be grateful for a everything hopefully I will be able to provide for them. She then added that her plans to start a family was still a 'little way off by the way'. It comes after the adult content creator is currently planning to tie the knot with fiancé Henry Brayshaw. The happy couple, who have been friends for ten years, got engaged in March - just one week after rekindling their relationship. Henry, 27, popped the question over a romantic dinner in Beverly Hills during a trip to LA. Sparing no expense, Henry, who is the son of sports commentator James Brayshaw, proposed to Annie with a three-carat diamond, which Daily Mail Australia revealed is worth up to $200,000. The enormous oval cut stone takes up almost the width of Annie's finger and is placed on an elegant gold band. Austen & Blake jewellery expert Tony French exclusively told Daily Mail Australia that 'a natural diamond of this carat could cost anywhere between $140,000-$200,000. Annie said she has already started planning her nuptials, with the couple hoping to wed in late 2026 in Australia. 'I'm a very organised person. I love planning,' she gushed to Daily Mail Australia. Annie also revealed her mother Karyn was the first person she called after Henry popped the question, but after informing her father Simon and her friends, she went straight to OnlyFans to tell her subscribers. The blonde makes millions by selling sexually explicit videos and images to her devout fans on the adult website, and Annie made sure they knew she wouldn't be going anywhere despite the ring on her finger. Earlier this year, Annie made it clear her relationship with Henry won't stop her from bedding hundreds of men before her wedding night. She said her fiancé is completely monogamous and faithful to her and is forbidden from sleeping with other women - but the same rules don't apply to her. Not only did Annie have sex with 600 men last year, she's now got her sights set on doing 1,000 guys before the end of 2025 and says that wedded bliss with her husband-to-be isn't going to change a thing.

Podcaster Laura Henshaw announces she is expecting her first child with husband Dalton - after struggling with indecision about whether or not she wanted kids
Laura Henshaw is expecting her first child with husband Dalton. The Kic CEO shared the good news of her pregnancy with a video posted to Instagram on Thursday. The 33-year-old was shown laying on a table in a medical office while having an ultrasound. Laura beamed for the camera in the black and white clip while an image on screen showed her growing baby. The podcaster captioned her video, which was inundated with congratulations from friends and fans, with a simple love heart emoji. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Henshaw has been open about struggling with whether or not she wanted to have children. She discussed the topic in her podcast series Do I Want Kids? last year and admitted her indecision was difficult. 'I felt ashamed about it,' she told ELLE magazine at the time. 'We live in this prenatal society, which basically means that in the society we live in, there is the assumption that we will have children. 'I blinked and all my friends went from talking about contraception to being pregnant or having kids. And I started to feel like, what is wrong with me?' In 2023, Laura said she had become concerned about time 'running out' to start a family but was 'afraid to have a baby'. 'I may have checked off some "societal successes", but as I'm approaching my 31st birthday, the hardest thing I'm having to confront is the inescapable biological reality that my fertility is decreasing with age. And I know I'm not alone' she wrote in a column for Marie Claire. It comes after Laura's husband Dalton revealed why he decided to take her last name after the pair tied the knot in 2021. During an Instagram Q&A, one fan asked the Keep it Cleaner co-founder why he changed his surname. 'Why did Dalton change his last name?' Laura then shared a video of Dalton explaining that he had always been open to the idea. 'The core reason why, is that it was always a conversation for me and it always has been,' he said. 'Nothing has ever been assumed as I was growing up, regardless of growing up in what would be a traditional woman taking the man's surname environment or family.' He continued: 'In this case it was always a conversation and that lead to me taking Laura's name.' Dalton also explained his choice after the couple's wedding in 2021. He wrote on Instagram at the time: 'You can still call me Dalton, Dalt, Dolphin, whatever you like… I'm still the same me and always will be. 'I'm just going to sign off one chapter and start another with my beautiful, driven and inspirational wife by my side as Mr Henshaw.' While Dalton's decision to break with tradition seems to be his way of expressing love and respect for his wife, he also hinted he didn't like his surname Graham.

Nick Kyrgios doesn't look like this anymore! Tennis champion shocks with dramatic new look following split from Costeen Hatzi
Nick Kyrgios has stunned fans with a dramatic new look as he recently rang in a milestone occasion. The tennis champion, who turned 30 in April, took to Instagram this week to debut his jaw-dropping new appearance – and followers could barely believe their eyes. Gone are the signature dark curls he's long been known for, replaced by a completely shaved head that left the star athlete looking almost unrecognisable. In a short clip, the Aussie star confidently showed off the buzzcut from multiple angles, locking eyes with the camera as he embraced the change. Kyrgios revealed the drastic transformation was in honour of a milestone birthday, telling fans: '30 is unreal. Not even in my prime yet. And shaved head is UNREAL.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Kyrgios appears to be embracing change after he confirmed his split from Costeen Hatzi last month. Following their split, Kyrgios' ex-girlfriend Hatzi, 26, delivered a parting message to her tennis star ex. Rumours of the breakup had been circulating for months, with Kyrgios appearing to unfollow the social media star on Instagram. The tennis star sparked rumours they had secretly split after he removed her initials from his Instagram bio. Meanwhile, Hatzi shared multiple cryptic posts, uploading a TikTok in which she appeared to mouth the words: 'Who the f*** did I marry? So at this point in time, I have filed for divorce'. She then confirmed the pair ended things on good terms, wishing the best for her ex-partner. 'I'm loving my work and doing content every day,' she told The Herald Sun. 'We haven't spoken, relationships come to an end. I believe it's for the best. 'I hope he finds peace and happiness within himself. 'I definitely entered the relationship with pure intentions. I loved him, thought we had a great connection.' The pair began dating back in 2021. They appeared head over heels for each other following their first meeting - which took place after he messaged Hatzi on social media about a mirror she was selling. He went to her home to pick up the mirror but as she previously said: 'It was love at first sight.' The pair became official in January, 2022 and moved in together, with Hatzi regularly seen following her beau around the world as he competed on the ATP Tour. After four years together, The Herald Sun revealed they split after a tournament in March, with Hatzi joking: 'Maybe I'll steer away from athletes.'
